Character Tropes

• Badass: Ain't he always?
  • Action Dad: Confirmed to be this by Chapter 2 of Blitz and Edge: Clearing the Rust.
  • Asskicking Equals Authority: He's a Colonel (Major in the Hell Prizm trilogy) and can kick a lot of ass, even in his 30s. That's some real badassery, right there.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: He does this from time to time.
• Berserk Button: Whirlwind has quite a few of them despite his generally casual and admittedly goofy demeanor.
  • Tranquil Fury: Believe me when I say that Whirlwind can potentially sound a lot scarier if he decides to put this trope in play.
  • Unstoppable Rage: He was subject to this in Rage Against the Empire.
• Big Good: Considering he's one of GUN's higher-ups in Darkness Trigger, this is kinda expected.
• Good Is Not Soft: Don't ever let this guy's friendly demeanor fool you. Whirlwind definitely isn't afraid of letting blood be spilled if the going gets rough.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: This also counts.
• Happily Married: With Glacier Von Fang in the series proper.
• Papa Wolf: Trust me when I say that you should never do anything that may hurt Zephyr (his daughter), especially if you're around her age. Also counts as a Berserk Button.
• Person of Mass Destruction: Can potentially become this if he decides to quit holding back. Taken Up to Eleven when pissing him off is the trigger.
• Reasonable Authority Figure: As a GUN official, he always tries to do his best at being a reasonable guy.
• Red Baron/Names To Run Away From Really Fast: The moniker of The White Hurricane can be very fear-inducing to his foes.
• Shipper on Deck: For Blitz and Edge.

Rage Against the Empire-only

• Character Development: Whirlwind started off as more of a snarky jerk who initially joined the Blue Rebellion when he figured that contributing to the effort to put an end to the Empire would put him at ease with his nightmares. After certain events, he goes through a severe mental breakdown. By that point, Whirlwind begins to accept his mistakes and forms some pretty deep relationships with some of his friends.
  • Defrosting Ice King: This also counts.
• Jerkass: Whirlwind is full of this in the much of the first act of the story.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold : Slowly turns into this throughout the story.

Power, Skills, and Equipment Tropes

• Blow You Away: His Aerokinesis.
• Power Fist: The Hurricane Busters.

Trivia Tropes

• Write Who You Know : Some of Whirlwind's traits are based on his creator.
• Named After Somebody Famous : Whirlwind's surname, Mason, is shared with Alex Mason, the protagonist of Call of Duty: Black Ops. (Hey, it's the only CoD game I've played, okay? ...Even then, I played only in multiplayer...)
