There's been an idea floating in my head for a while that could possibly become an Large Talkplay I'll put on the forums if enough people like it. Remember the "Punk" subgenres that many people seem to admire? You all most likely heard of Steampunk and Cyberpunk, but those two just scratch the surface of fantastical technologies with differing styles. This idea for an RP will be centered around a conflict featuring five governments using their own differing style of tech. The five are listed below:

The Nations[]

  • The Nation of United Progressives: This nation is an Oligarchy, meaning the man or woman with the most money makes the rules. They rely of Steam-powered tech along with some electricity. The entire nation is a single city running like clockwork. There are the workers, covered in coal and burns from a 10-hour day at the factories, then there are the incredibly wealthy aristocrats, dressing in the fanciest attire to attend the fanciest parties. Notable technological advancements include humanoid machines, automatons, that are used for security and servitude to the upper class. Most workers and soldiers have lost some of their flesh and replaced it with metallic limbs and appendages to survive and thrive. In fact, the leading product in the city includes prosthetic limbs and body parts along with automatons. That's how the leader of this city-country, Frederick Orson, rose to power. He used nothing but numbers and figures to conquer his opposition. No one was in his way for long, no thorn at his side overstayed their welcome. Even with his power, though, the city is divided into districts, with a wealthy family ruling their own chunks of the city.

The clothing is Victorian-era, with dresses and corsets for aristocratic women, colorful coats and ties for the rich gentlemen, and for the poor, shoddy trousers, worn boots, and torn undershirts. For everyone, though, goggles and awesome hats of varying shapes and sizes.

As you can imagine, the economy is too easy to take advantage of if your not under a rich man's thumb. Their military is split by the families, but when united against a common enemy, they can provide a good fight, using men stuffed with gears, cogs, and copper to amplify their combat capabilities. Riflemen have artificial eyes, scouts have metal legs, bruisers have muscles like steel.

  • The Glowing Legion: This nation is a democracy, where every man has a voice, along with perhaps a shorter life span. These people love nuclear power. Each city in the nation is powered by a massive nuclear power plant that creates enough radioactive smoke to produce a volatile atmosphere near-toxic to outsiders. The workers at the plants tend to become mutated, covered in tumors and extra appendages on rare occasions. Some men even go insane, becoming what the people call "Nuke-heads", Zombie-like people who have become unrecognizable as human beings. Even with these great drawbacks, the workers are treated like human beings, with them making their own worth, hardly hindered by anyone else. The President, Margaret Green, is fair to the populace that elected her, though she seems to have some sort of hunger for power. If one looks into her eyes, they will see nothing but ambition.

The outfits are like that of the 1950's. Men wore suits and button-down shirts, trousers, and casual shoes, even the workers were tidy, other than any sort of chemicals they brought home. The women wore dresses that went just above the knee and heels.

The technology tends to be bulky but smooth, everything all boxed up in metal, no protruding pieces. What they lack in automatons and fancy tech they make up for in unrivaled power. Their military backbone is built upon mechs, overshadowing infantry and filling the opposition's soldiers with incredible amounts of expended ammunition. Their foot troops are no laughing stock either. President Green had the brilliant idea of weaponising chemical waste, creating guns that shot radioactive rods that burned through flesh, chemical goo launchers that melted enemies by the squads, and, cruelest of all, Glowing Smog, these are launched by mechs from a long distance away, designed to clear out small cities in a single salvo, poisoning and wiping out the population, only for soldiers wearing hazmat suits to wipe up afterwards.

  • The Red Haven: The Haven is a communist nation whose main power source is diesel fuel. Their unification has made the nation a strong one. Led by a single rule, Viktor Asimov, the country has a single idea in mind, conquest. Until the whole world lives under the Red Banner, they will not give quarter. The strength of their army is in their numbers. The army has more men than any of the four nations. Their technology, though, is where they fall flat. Most of the diesel powered machines of war are armored troop carriers with some bulky suits over armor with guns on each shoulder and arm. Their weapons are simple, twentieth century rifles, machine guns, pistols, and bazookas. Their massive weapons factories make up most of the economy, with every male the age of eighteen and older getting a rifle and handgun. There is no outside knowledge of the living conditions of the country, but the vegetation that used to cover the land in verdant green has been replaced with iron and brick. they have some crops on the outskirts, but nothing large enough to keep every mouth full.

The Attire here is much like that of the Glowing Legion, but more casual and more layers, especially within the cities. Everyone has a sort of thick hat and coat to get them through the day. Some even use these as a pillow and blanket, respectively.

  • The Lords and Ladies of Stars: This nation is a monarchy composed of, as the nation's name suggests, Lords and Ladies with their own plots of land. The families, like the Progressives, have their own armies. Unlike them, though, they don't hire generals. The lords and ladies command their armies from the front lines, going in, lasers blazing a burning path for the infantry to tread upon. They rely on our definition of futuristic technologies, using computers, nanotech, and laser weapons to dominate the battlefield. Their soldiers usually have all three on them at all times. Nanomachines (son) enhance their combat performance. computer chips wired to their brain multiply their reflexes (and subtract from free-will) tenfold. Lasers make up the entire armory. The weapons that make this nation one of the strongest, though, despite the lack of unification, are the satellites that orbit the planet. Each and Every nation has been trying to copy them, with no success. The Lords and Ladies can rain down concentrated light from above to any target they desire. The reason they haven't wiped out the others is a mix of their sense of honor, the lack of resources capable of keeping these satellites in orbit for long, and the other nations have been looking into ways to destroy the satellites. Off to the side, the richer families have also started researching Artificial Intelligence.

Their lifestyles are futuristic compared to ours. They have automated everything, each person has some form of nanotech augmenting their body, and computers have become commonplace in people's brains. Some of the smarter Lords and Ladies have installed chips that give people merely the illusion of free will and have made if more difficult for soldiers to question orders.

  • Daniel's Republic: This country has become fully involved with genetic methods of improving life. United under a republic, the people here have twenty first century technology coupled with the rapid mutations of them and their wildlife. People from this nation tend to be higher than the peak of physical fitness, having unrivaled strength, speed, and reflexes, given they combined their DNA with different creatures, turning them into half-mobian, half-beast. From outsiders, this nation is made up of the greatest abominations ever to be called mobian. A simple hedgehog can now splice his DNA with a rhino's DNA to gain it's strength. A Mobian cat can give himself the speed of a wild cheetah. They compensate for their weakness with offensive tactics that have given the bravest of men psychological trauma. Imagine a creature the size of a mammoth with the speed of a cheetah and the jaws of an alligator rush at you and your men. These are called Biotanks. Comparing them to tanks, though, is somewhat unfair. Tanks tend to be clean with their kills.

Their lifestyle is dependent upon the fertile soil and abundant vegetation. Their clothing is made of leather and fur. Jumpsuits are used as military outfits and casual wear is composed of jackets, pants, and boots. Their leader, President Burnside, is a fierce leader, his DNA being crossed with a Tiger. He believes an offense makes the best defense and that no soldier should go running away, tails between their legs.

The Plot[]

So all of these nations are at war, and have been for as long as anyone can remember. Almost everyone sees just the five nations clashing, with nothing else in the world being important enough to take the war's limelight. This have given Mercenary companies a grand opportunity. Some have even united groups of people from more than a single nation to work and fight for the highest bidder. The characters in the RP will be a part of a mercenary company called the General's Elite, named after a battalion of soldiers from long ago with people of all kinds fighter together for a greater good. The mercs will be performing mission behind the scenes. Help an aristocrat rise above his fellow rich men. Set up a revolution against a single ruler. The diversity of the missions is only limited by the number of contracts.

I will make rules for the roleplay when enough people show interest. It will involve making a new character from one of the nations along with a short origin story as to how they got into Mercenary work.
