The Walther P38 is a German 9mm semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Carl Walther Waffenfabrik GmbH. It was the standard sidearm of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. While intended as a replacement for the Luger, the Luger stayed in production until 1943.
The Wehrmacht issued a request for a new pistol design. Walther responded with a prototype hammerless pistol known as the "Armee Pistole". The Wehrmacht liked the design, but wanted one with an external hammer. After some redesign work, they came out with the Heeres Pistole, and it soon became the P38. After the war, P38 production continued, although none were produced for the West German military until 1957. In 1963, a new version called the P1 was introduced. This one became standard for the West German military until it was finally phased out in 2004.
The Walther P38 kills people. That’s about it. No, it cannot transform into Megatron in real life.
Shadow receives a P38 in BearfootTruck’s fanfic "Two Kinds of Heroes". He gets it for joining the Gestapo. He first brandishes it against Sonic, warning him not to try anything funny. However, his first instance of actually firing the pistol occurs when a group of Cylon Centurions attempts to take over Stalag 13. Alas, the bullets bounce off without doing any damage. Nevertheless, Shadow keeps the P-38 as a souvenir after leaving the Gestapo.
Shadow uses the P38 again in "The Fakest Things Alive". This time, he uses it against Harry Potter Obama, now a mutant hedgehog. However, the gun doesn't do much good here, either, so Shadow switches to a Smith & Wesson Model 29.
