The Smith & Wesson Model 29 is a six-shot, .44 Magnum, double-action revolver manufactured by American firearms manufacturer Smith & Wesson. It was the first handgun chambered in the hard-hitting .44 Magnum caliber. It is still manufactured by S&W as part of their "Classic" line.

Introduced in 1955, the Model 29 raised the bar for handguns. However, it didn't really make a mark on the American consciousness until 1971. That year, Clint Eastwood wielded a Model 29 on the silver screen when he played Inspector Harry Callahan in Dirty Harry. Because of this, the gun's popularity increased. Eastwood would go on to play Callahan in four more sequels, wreaking more havoc with this big bad hand cannon. In the late 1990’s, S&W discontinued most of its blued-steel revolvers, although the Model 29 continued on as the stainless steel Model 629. However, the Model 29 was revived in 2012 as part of S&W’s "Classic" line of revolvers.

Being that this is a .44 Magnum, (formerly) the most powerful handgun in the world, it will blow your head clean off. So, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk!?

Shadow the Hedgehog

Shadow first uses a Model 29 in BearfootTruck's fanfic "The Fakest Things Alive". After his P38 proves ineffective against Harry Potter Obama, he takes this gun out instead. It does a little better, although Harry Potter Obama keeps going after being hit. During the battle, Shadow gets thrown at a boulder and loses his Model 29, but he recovers it after the battle. Later, Shadow uses his Model 29 to kill Ogorki, but the picklehog comes back to life and changes into Gurkon the Dragon. Because a .44 Magnum would be ineffective against a dragon, Shadow instead shoots one of the dragon’s eyes out. He loses the gun again after getting thrown off, but he once again recovers it.

In BearfootTruck’s next fic "And Down Will Come Sonic – Cradle and All", Shadow uses his Model 29 in one of Sonic's nightmares. He even does the Dirty Harry routine. Despite the Blue Blur's pleas, Shadow says that his day has been made and kills Sonic. However, since it's only a dream, Sonic didn’t really die.

In "A Dark Birthday", Shadow shoves the barrel of his Model 29 down Sonic's throat for repeatedly giving him sass, but removes it after Ol' Blue agrees to be nicer.

In all of BearfootTruck's fics, Shadow's Model 29 has a 8 ⅜-inch barrel and has been customized a bit. First of all, it has custom walnut grips with the Black Arms emblem etched into them. Second, Maria's name has been engraved on both sides of the barrel.
