Tory the Dark Chao is a villain in the The Legend of Ashura series by MewtwoLucario. He is an immortal, Normal/Fly+Power Dark Chao who is the Fly member of Team Oak.
Appearance
Unlike most other Chao, Tory's appearance always stays the same. In his case, he resembles a baby Normal-type Dark Chao, although he has red marks on his head and the large spike-thing at the back of his head. In the center of his forehead is a large red letter "T", and his eyes are red instead of white like an ordinary Dark Chao's. Near where Tory's neck would be (if he had one) is a small, red, crescent-shaped mark. The ends of his hands and feet are red, and unlike other Chao, he actually has claws. His bat-like wings are also red. His tail is red-striped, and ends in a red point, similar to a devil tail. Tory wears a necklace with a red skull charm around his "neck". Above his head floats a red spikeball that will change its shape, depending on Tory's mood.
- If he's really happy or lovestruck, it'll form a heart shape.
- If he's tired, hurt, angry, sad, or upset, it'll form a tornado swirl shape.
- If he's surprised, it'll form an exclamation point shape.
- If he's curious or confused, it'll form a question mark shape.
Powers and Abilities
Despite his size, Tory is incredibly strong, being able to fly through the air while carrying both Oak and Metal Ashura. He can use his sharp teeth to produce a painful, though not lethal, bite to his enemies. Tory can also emit an ear-splitting Sonic Shriek, as well as shoot balls of red, glowing light from his hands. He is very skilled at speaking English, which he inexplicably knew from birth, although he still sometimes says "Chao".
History
Concept and Creation
Classic Tory
Even villains need sidekicks, and MewtwoLucario didn't want Oak to have a cliché partner like a robot or something. She wanted him to have something uncommon and not as dangerous as it looks. As such, Tory was brought into development. His original appearance was slightly different than his appearance now. Not as much of him was red, his skull charm necklace was missing, and his name was supposed to be Tony.
Early Life
Tory was born in a Dark Chao Garden so secret and so well-hidden he doesn't even remember where it is anymore. His Egg hatched in a dark corner of the Garden, and for some reason, he didn't seem to have any parents. The other Baby Dark Chao made fun of him because of his red marks, and he couldn't find any friends. Once he reached his fifth year of his life, Tory, for some reason, didn't either reincarnate or die. The Council of the Dark Garden confirmed that he was a rare breed of Chao, called a Junior Chaos Chao. Like Chaos Chao, Junior Chaos Chao are immortal, but they're considered to be dangerous. The only thing they could do was send Tory away from the Garden. Sad and alone, Tory left the only home he had ever known, with nothing but a sack at the end of a stick.

Tory in Sonic X
Tory mirrors his role in Sonic X as the Fly member of Team Oak. However, he seems to be more easily distracted and less smart than in The Legend of Ashura. Additionally, he always fights Eclipse instead of Spike, as he does in the mainstream series.

The Questing Beast, Tory's Arthurian counterpart
The Questing Beast is Tory's Arthurian counterpart. It is a lot more primitive and mindless than Tory, which greatly annoys him. Unlike Tory, it has a "Q" shaped mark on its forehead, and more closely resembles Devil Tory than Tory himself.
