Hey Skull, while I'm not going to name names or anything, I had a question about something that's been annoying me about this wiki for a little bit now. So, what is the rule about using art that is not your own? There has been a user here that been using official art from a franchise and claiming them as specific pictures of their characters without citing where they got it from. Does that violate the wiki's art theft/ unauthorized use rule?
Official art is a bit of a grey area when it comes to the rules (and probably something that should be voted on at some point for the sake of clarification).
As for my personal opinion, I think using official artwork from the Sonic franchise is okay as long as you aren't using the artwork for your character design, as you've stated. Other franchises, or at least ones that aren't Sega-related, are probably not okay.
Well, in that case, you might wanna give this guy a good warning, as he's made pages that use official pictures of characters from other franchises (like the MCU Tony Stark, wth?) in a few of his pages.
Ah, well This is the one I'm talking about. They're using official pokemon art as pictures of a huge number of their characters. In which case, I have to ask what's the point of mobianizing them if you aren't going to make them distinct? lol
What if you told the user that he or she can use the images as long as he or she CLEARLY states WHERE he or she got the images from, TO WHOM the images belong, what franchise the images belong to, and that if he or she continuously refuses to do so, that the punishments for recoloured artwork would apply (if that makes any sense).
I dunno, what do you guys think? This is the best I can come up with.
As to the rest of the community, I'm not sure what they'd have to say about it. *shrugs* Maybe my idea is too drastic, but honestly I don't know of anything else you could do.
