The Rookie Chronicles (ルーキークロニクルズ Rūkīkuronikuruzu?) is a Sonic AU by ChaosControl VA. It is the story of Spectrum The Hedgehog, the legendary veteran of the war between the Eggman Empire and the Resistance,[8][9] as he and his friends travel the multiverse[10] to meet new heroes and villains, find their places in the cosmos,[10] overcome the traumas of their pasts, and protect the multiverse[10] from all new threats.
Official Solicitation[]
After the war between the Resistance and the Eggman Empire,[8] the rookie veteran Spectrum The Hedgehog,[9] and his ever-growing band of friends and allies, set out for new adventures. As this new generation of heroes rises up to defend their world[11] though, a new generation of villains rises up too, and "Team Spectrum" soon enters into a deadly rivalry with a daring cult[12] that might decide the fate of the known cosmos itself.[10]

Biology[]
Spiritual[]

The biology/anatomy of the characters in the Rookie Chronicles doesn't end with typical tissue and organs, but thanks to the supernatural involvement of the Beginning (during the creation of the multiverse),[18] all persons that were/are created by Him have equally supernatural components to them.
Such supernatural elements in a person's anatomy (within the Rookie Chronicles) include:
- Body: The physical part of a person, that being the shell that holds their soul and spirit. The skin, muscles, organs, and so on all make up the body and help an individual interact with the physical world.
- Soul: [The soul is] comprised of elements that help a person interact with themselves. Such elements include their mind, will, intellect, emotions, and so on.
- Spirit: What (outright) animals do not have; this is the core of a person's being, essentially their "essence." Just like the Beginning, created peoples are "spirit beings," and the spirits of those created peoples allow them to interact with their said Creator.
Universes[10][51][]

The Multiverse.
Ever since the Multiverse Arc, Spectrum and his companions have been traveling across the multiverse with their world's[11] version of the Warp Topaz, encountering different worlds with new friends and enemies, as well as more familiar timelines with alternate versions of themselves.[52] While most of the Rookie Chronicles take place on Spectrum's world, oftentimes its characters will crossover into other worlds, and sometimes it's the reverse. Spectrum and his friends have even gone as far as to categorize each world they visit, in the hopes of making their missions easier to sift through.[53]
Earth F1718 (The Rookie Chronicles)[]

The main three members of Team Spectrum together.
The Rookie Chronicles Universe (designated as Earth F1718) is the main universe that the plotline of the Rookie Chronicles takes place in. It's mostly similar to the canon universe, but with a few noticeable differences, such as the Rookie being Spectrum The Hedgehog[54] and how aspects from the IDW Universe have merged with this one.[11] Spectrum's gallery of friends and enemies are mostly native to this universe,[11] not having any variants in any other universe[10] but only in this universe's[11] divergent timelines.[10]
Alternate Timelines[]
The Ruined Universe[55] is the first divergent timeline branching off from the main Rookie Chronicles universe,[11] being home to the evil/anti Spectrum variant known as "Spring-Heeled Jack." It splits off from the main timeline[11] around the event known as "Operation Big Wave," with Spectrum being defeated by Infinite and captured by the Eggman Empire after his and Infinite's second encounter rather than Spectrum being able to escape afterwards.[56] After being tortured by the empire, he would escape with a fractured mind, determined to destroy everyone who wronged him (including his friends who didn't come to save him), and he did just that... By the time Jack (as he had become known) was done, the major threats that could have stood against him were dead and the rest were enslaved,[57] allowing him to turn the world into a tyrannical hellscape that he ruled with an iron fist for years... However, now that he's been removed from his world and left to roam the multiverse on his own,[58] the Ruined Universe has been left to its own devices to heal, though its citizens have been forever scarred...
The Dreadful West Universe is the second divergent timeline branching off from the main Rookie Chronicles universe,[11] being set during the time of an eternal Wild West. Most of the Rookie Chronicles characters and main Sonic cast are very different from their main universe[11] counterparts, not only in terms of how they are now applied to this new environment, but also in terms of their origins and connections to each other; Spectrum in this universe,[59] for example, was raised by the Native Americans, carrying on the lessons he learned from their culture[60] as he has become a vigilante in the towns of the region. Life in this universe[59] was initially peaceful until Spectrum and his friends, in the main universe,[11] unknowingly banished the Dark Gaia Scale Sword to Earth F1718-3,[10][61] where it turned the desert wastelands into a Hogferatu-infested warzone as Dark Gaia began recuperating; since then, life in the Dreadful West Universe[10] became more violent as all of the remaining citizens became on edge and didn't trust newcomers easily (often attributing their unfamiliarness to be that of witchcraft or one of the Dark Gaia Scale Sword's tricks, up until Spectrum and his friends arrived from the main universe).[11][62]
The Metalverse is the third divergent timeline branching off from the main Rookie Chronicles universe,[11] having been nearly overtaken by the Metal Virus. After his defeat in the war,[8] Eggman shelved the Metal Virus project in favor of his other evil plans,[63][64][65] neglecting some major consequences that would show themselves in the future; during its time in containment, the Metal Virus mutated,[66] not only to the point where it could alter the bodies of its victims, but also to the point where it developed a very intelligent yet nefarious hivemind... Eventually, the Metal Virus escaped its containment, leaking from Eggman's facilities and out into the rest of the world, which it infected at a frightening rate... Now, most of the planet is consumed by the Metal Virus, with many of its inhabitants being mutated into horrifying abominations; the only remaining survivors consist of a few members from Team Spectrum, who are struggling to find a safe haven from this incurable and monstrous plague...
Earth F1[]

Sonic, Classic Sonic, and the Rookie[41] together.
Earth F1 is a universe that the Rookie Chronicles[11] extends from. This universe acts as a starting point (from Sonic Forces) for several other branching universes, including the Rookie Chronicles,[11] with the main variable between each said branch being the Rookie themself and their specific (biological) details;[9] on Earth F1 though, the Rookie is reduced to his most basic and simple, or even pure, form.[41][9] Oftentimes, the universes that branch off of Earth F1 don't interact with said original world, with the (temporary) reset of the Rookie Chronicles universe[11] to Earth F1's basic format being the only exception.[42]
Earth ASC1521 (Sonic Ascension)[]
The Sonic Ascension Universe (designated as Earth ASC1521) is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe.[11][67][68] Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[11][67][68] this universe[69] follows Alexa The Hedgehog (along with her friends):[19][20] a high school student who accidentally stole the powers of a new villain group known as the Squad,[19] who work for an Eggman Empire that has been taken over by Dr. Starline,[20] as she now trains and works alongside her hero Sonic.[20] During Team Spectrum's first encounter with the dimension,[69] Alexa and her friends[19][20] were initially skeptical of the group, only to become more comfortable with them after fighting off the Squad[19][20] (again) together to keep them from taking Alexa's[19][20] powers[70] (Spectrum himself would even try to reason with the Squad at the time (to varying success).[67][71] Since then, Team Spectrum has visited this dimension[69] often to hang out with Alexa and her friends[19][20] while also helping them out with whatever problems they may have there at the time,[68][72] and Alexa (and her friends)[19][20] have been more than willing to travel across the multiverse[10] in order to help Team Spectrum out with whatever they're dealing with on the other hand.[70][73]
Earth SS1101 (Sonic Solara)[]
The Sonic Solara Universe, otherwise known as the Solara Galaxy (designated as Earth SS1101), is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe.[11][74] Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[11][74] this universe[75] follows a group of Star Nova Alliance spacefarers named the "Star-stroopers," being led by Peony The Snow Leopard (as their captain), as they explore and document the worlds of the Solara Galaxy. During Team Spectrum's first encounter with the dimension,[75] they were rescued by the Star-stroopers in the Hypernova after being immediately stranded in the cold vacuum of space, making good with the ship's crew and tagging along with them as the Warp Topaz recharged and some of their teammates recovered, helping them defend the planet Zyra from an invading Singe The Tenrec;[74] since then, Team Spectrum has been sure to visit the Star-stroopers in their dimension[75] from time to time, with some of the Team's members even attempting some long-distance relationships with some of the space exploring crewmembers (though those haven't panned out well in the end).[76][77]
Earth ZV1322 (Sonic Zenith)[]
The Sonic Zenith Universe, otherwise known as the Zenithverse (designated as Earth ZV1322), is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe.[11][78] Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[11][78] this universe[79] follows the sister of Miles "Tails" Prower and her girlfriend[80][81][82] as they fight against the terrorist efforts of the AET, who threaten to kill anyone they feel is a threat to the safety of the multiverse.[10] So far, only Berri and Ginger have ever traveled from the Rookie Chronicles Universe[11] to the Zenithverse,[79] notably helping Millicent and Charlotte fight off the likes of the AET and Lamia (who had secretly followed Berri and Ginger) during their first encounter with that universe;[78][79] since then,[78] Berri and Ginger have returned to the Zenithverse[79] on multiple occasions to reconnect with Millicent and Charlotte, and Spectrum has even come to know about the Zenithverse[79] but has never actually visited it himself.
Universe 99[]

Shira with her motorcycle on Route 99.
Universe 99 is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe.[11][83] Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[11][83] this universe follows the on-going escapades of two rival gangs, the Chained Leash and the Broken Chains (and also, there's a snake thief thrown into the mix). Berri has, so far, been one of two people who have traveled from the Rookie Chronicles Universe[11] to Universe 99, notably to track down Lamia (the second person besides Berri) after she stole the Warp Topaz and opened a portal to Universe 99 (unknowingly) herself.[83]
Sonic Archie Comics Universe (Post-Super Genesis Wave)[]

A map of Mobius.
The Sonic Archie Comics Universe (Post-Super Genesis Wave) is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe.[11][84] Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[11][84] this universe follows its own version of Sonic and his friends that work together in a group of Freedom Fighters, with them fighting against their universe's version of the Eggman Empire in an attempt to loosen its grip over their world (with their own multiverse even being brought into the picture from time to time).[85][86] Both universes[10][11] have notably interacted once before, that being during Team Spectrum's first accidental trip throughout the multiverse, where they had to help the Freedom Fighters stop their Eggman Empire from initiating an insanely destructive plan (with that version of the Eggman Empire having the help of the Order of Genesis members that followed Team Spectrum through the universe up until that point).[52][84]
Sonic Boom Universe[]

Seaside Island.
The Sonic Boom Universe is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe.[11][87] Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[11][87] this universe follows its own version of Team Sonic as they protect the citizens of Seaside Island from the evil plots of this universe's version of Dr. Eggman (among other such threats). Team Spectrum has notably only visited this dimension once, and they have been determined to keep that number the same, not exactly being comfortable with how this universe is too noticeably different from their own.[11][87]
The Night Dimension[]
The Night Dimension is a pocket dimension that crosses over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe[11] (with the Nightopias/Dreamscapes and Nightmare being sub-areas within it). Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[11] this dimension is the source of all dreams, with sleeping individuals (otherwise known as Visitors) being able to visit it while dreaming and experience areas called Nightopias that reflect each said Visitor, all of which is made possible by the Reverie (through the energy source known as Ideyas) as it was created by the Beginning and (a previously good) Wizeman The Wicked;[6] events in this dimension mostly follow a rouge Nightmaren named NiGHTS as she fights back against her conqueror "creator" Wizeman, with one exception being Eggman's previous attempt to use the Reverie in creating a nightmarish army of his own dreamed-up design (during which he, along with Sonic and his friends, traversed through more concentrated Nightopias called "Dreamscapes," which were created through both parties being connected directly to the Reverie (as they were all put to sleep by it).[6][88] Another exception follows Wizeman's attempt to regain control of the Reverie himself (after Tails managed to override its Dormancy Protocol),[88] syphoning the Ideyas of Spectrum (while he was trapped in the Night Dimension) to power the Reverie as a portal and escape into the waking world[11] through it, though he was thwarted by NiGHTS and Ariem's combined efforts to help Spectrum fight back.[6]
RWBY Universe[]

A map of Remnant.
The RWBY Universe is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe[11] (this time in a more literal sense).[5] Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[5][11] this universe mainly follows the Huntsmen group known as Team RWBY as they fight against Salem and her forces of Grimm and misguided followers.[89] Both the RWBY and Rookie Chronicles Universes[10][11] have notably collided only once after the Warp Topaz was accidentally used to combine their worlds together, forcing Team RWBY to work together with Team Spectrum to try and fix everything;[5] while the universes[10] are separated once again thanks to Team Spectrum and Team RWBY's combined efforts,[5] the elements of both worlds[10] haven't really interacted with each other since.
Overworld[]
The Overworld (Minecraft Universe) is one of the universes that have crossed over with the Rookie Chronicles Universe[11] (with the Nether and the End being sub-areas within it). Outside of its convergences with the Rookie Chronicles Universe,[7][11] this universe is a blocky world of endless possibilities, with its laws of physics following suit, where creativity is an encouraged strength for its inhabitants; it is also a world marked by a tragic history, once playing host to an ancient civilization that was tricked and enslaved by an ageless anomaly.[90][91] Team Spectrum's first (accidental) encounter with this universe was plagued by discovery and danger, with them considering this world to be weirder than the Boom universe,[92] and also with them facing that aforementioned ancient anomaly.[90][7]
Trivia[]
- ChaosControl VA is very protective of his characters (especially with all of his original characters seen here), so if you want to use any of them (in art, animations, etc.), he wants you to ask him for permission to do so first. He also does not want any attributes of these characters being changed (their races, sexualities, etc.) beyond his original storytelling intentions to suit your own needs (in art, animations, etc.); this will continue to remain the case, unless ChaosControl VA gives permission on some of your proposed changes first (approved changes that ChaosControl VA describes as essentially being fan fiction for you alone).
- This AU's creator, ChaosControl VA, had created a system to better categorize and designate different Sonic OC Universes, considering he's had Spectrum interacting with OCs outside of his Sonic AU, and considering he didn't want to mess up the canon or anyone else's AUs with his own. This AU's main universe is designated "Earth F1718-1."[10]
- While one of the AU's main focuses is on exploring the Sonic Official/Fan Multiverse,[10] the story mostly takes place on and originates from Earth F1718-1.[10][18]
- Earth F1718-1 is based in the Final Horizon timeline for Sonic Frontiers; this is only said like that because the way that the Final Horizon update for Frontiers is being presented[93] makes it seem like an alternate timeline kind of scenario, and ChaosControl VA only made that version of Frontiers' ending canon to his AU because he felt like it's better than the game's original (normal) ending.
- ChaosControl VA's AU is not made for kids, as certain characters' sexualities add sexual themes to the AU.
- ChaosControl VA, in order to avoid a "disrespectful[94] and perverted trope in modern media and even in the Sonic community" (as he puts it), made a self-imposed rule for his AU: that being that the sexualities of all of the canon Sonic characters' in his AU[95] would remain as straight while he could fiddle around with the sexualities of his own characters if he wanted to (as a sign of respect to the source material); TL;DR, the Rookie Chronicles doesn't really have any non-straight OC x Canon/Canon x Canon ships.
- ChaosControl VA says that this rule can also apply to "blackwashing," as he has noted how often the Sonic community (alone) has also been doing this to canon Sonic characters (pointing out common examples such as with Knuckles and Shadow).[96]
- ChaosControl VA has, however, made an exception to this self-imposed sexuality rule of his when it comes to mind control[97] or the power of manipulating emotions[98] or so on, as he argues that it is not really a "ship" if one or two parties are not in their right states of mind.
- In defense of such a self-imposed rule, ChaosControl VA has often sited Letter 190 from the Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.
- Due to the official Sonic Channel website having removed the ages of the canon Sonic characters beforehand,[99] ChaosControl VA has made it so that all of the canon Sonic characters in his AU[95] (aside from those who are obviously still children,[100][101][102] those who are immortal,[103] those whose aging was suspended for some period of time at some point,[104] and so on) are now legal adults (mostly in or around their 20s).
- ChaosControl VA says that he was inspired by animes like One Piece when it came to formatting his story later on, especially in terms of the use of "arcs" and "sagas," the constant introductions of new characters to the story, general character development and themes, and constantly adding new stuff in before the end of the story that he thinks might be cool for the series.[105]
- While the Time Eater is not a reborn Mephiles The Dark (as suggested by Ian Flynn)[106] in this AU, the ending of Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), in which a new timeline was created after Solaris' defeat where the game's events never took place,[107] did release him from his containment.
- The moment where Spectrum and the ghosts of Naagon's former citizens talked to each other within the Stone Soldiers (during the Madness in the Jungle Arc)[108] was apparently inspired by the scene in Resident Evil 7 where Jack Baker begged Ethan Winters to "free his family."[109]
- The "Long Valentine's Day Arc's" name is a reference to the "Long Halloween" Batman storyline in DC Comics.
- The Multiverse Arc was mostly inspired by the second half of the first season of Minecraft: Story Mode.
- The "Into the (specific) Universe" sub-arc titles are not meant to be references to the Spider-Verse film series.[110]
- The "Into the Dreadful West Universe" sub-arc was mostly inspired by the video game Evil West, while also being inspired by the movie Rango.
- The Main Theme for the (overall) AU is "Fist Bump."[111]
- The OP Theme for the Chaos in Cyber Space Arc is "Sonic Frontiers Anime Opening 2" by Thai McGarth.
- In-universe, the Strays were the original artists behind "Believe in Myself" (originally performed by Kaz Silver), with it being the band's biggest hit; in real-life, ChaosControl VA felt it sounded like a song the Strays would make, with Kaz Silver's original performance even sounding like how Serena would to him.
- Magical Girl Animes do not exist in the Rookie Chronicles universe.[11][112]
- According to ChaosControl VA, he gave a presentation on the Rookie Chronicles for a final project in one of his (college) classes.[113]
