Ali Tomani Siah Goosh (Persian: علی تومانی سیاه گوش, Ali, the black eared Tomani prince), also known by his first name as Ali (Persian: علی) or his nickname Atesh (Persian: آتش, fire) is a caracal born in the desert nation of Ramil, where he lived until shortly after the Dune Uprisings of 3235.
Appearance[]
Ali is a slim, rust-colored caracal with black hair, black hands, black feet, and ears with black tips. He has black spots above his eyes and a shiny black nose at the tip of his muzzle. He has a soft white belly, and a long, white-tipped tail that often suspended itself above ground and near his center of gravity. On a normal day, Ali usually wears very clean white clothing, large amounts of gold jewelry, and very copious amounts of cologne. He drives a white BMW. He is, as some would call it, a stereotypical Persian.
Personality[]
Ali is very loud and expressionate. For a large man like himself, he is bubbly and exciteful, almost to a fault. His main goal behind this as he explains is to maintain a positive atmosphere, as when it drops he can be very cynical and sarcastic. He is always willing to lend a hand if he sees the opportunity to, as a way to make up for his failure to do so at a young age. Ali is a major party person and extravert, feeding off of the crowds and making sure he's the center of attention. Ali's approach to most problems is to fake it until you make it, which suggests that his forced state of happiness may have something to do with him covering up his troubled past.
History[]
Ali was born in the war-torn northern regions of the desert nation of Ramil (Persian: شهر ا بزرگ ا رمل, shahara bazarg Ramil). His parents where members of the psammokinetic majority of Ramil, which where, before the Dune Uprisings, an extremely oppressed population, subject to the cruel treatment of the pyrokinetic upper class known as the pyrocracy (Persian: مجلس ا آتش, majlesa atash). At a young age, Ali discovered his fire powers, and in hopes of giving him a better life, was given away by his parents to a powerful family.
His early life was spent under the careful watch of the House of Tomani (Persian: تومانی, majlesa tomani), who treated him as a servant, tasking him with chores like serving food and drink during the family's many parties, and displaying chief ettiquette. As he became older, he gained the respect of many in the pyrocracy and as some would say, opened the eyes to the potential of the psammokinetic majority. His inclusion into the Tomani family also meant that there was a newcomer in the Tomani gene pool, as most Ramilian families tended to arrange marriages between cousins, making Ali a top candidate for husbandry by many daughters of the Tomani.
As Ali reached independence, the Dune Uprisings began to occur. Many psammokinetics would join together during these uprisings and plague pyrocratic cities with sandstorms, forcing the upper class to do a technique known as shishah pokhtan (Persian: شیشه پختن, glass cooking), where a pyrokinetic would blast continuous flames over oncoming sand, turning it into glass. Being psammokinetic in origin, Ali was scrutinized very often, and as such needed to prove himself by learning and enacting this technique frequently. His subservant nature granted him very high respect as the pyrocracy saw its loss of power, and in an effort to ensure he would never stray from their will, Ali was often given ranks and titles of nobility, and was offered the hands of many in marriage. Ali had it all, and took it, until he discovered his true origins.
Ali very quickly became skilled in the arts of pyrokinetic combat, he would often channel the heat of the sun into his powers, giving him extra durability and energy in combat. He very quickly became in line with military generals as he helped keep back the persisting uprisings, until he learned of his psammokinetic origins while having dinner with the family of his first fiancée. Ali questioned the news at first and maintained his composure in front of the family, as he did his entire life, but as soon as he was alone broke down into tears. In his future battles with the rebels, Ali showed a change of heart, and often times feigned defeat to give the rebels an upper hand.
Eventually, as the rebels took over, destroying the capital of the pyrocracy, Ali showed his support for the rebels in hopes of being accepted, but was instead labeled a dishonorable warrior and told to leave the country. Unknown by many members of the pyrocracy that Ali had attempted to be in league with the rebels, they gave him the funds necessary to flee to the G.U.N. capital of Central City, which supported the pyrocracy as the psammokinetic majority had a massive anti-human sentiment.
After fleeing to Central City and settling down in a lower class neighborhood with his fiancée, Ali noticed the conditions of the Mobian citizens in Central City and their descent into crime because of poverty and rival street gangs. He believed the neighborhoods to be what he called "a tarnished piece of silver," and Ali decided to set off with a group of new friends to bring safety and destroy poverty in the city.
He established a neighborhood watch called the Cheshman (Persian: چشمان, eyes) which helped eliminate civilian crime, which soon spread across the entire city to help stop gangs and drug trafficking in Central City, later making it a safe and popular tourist destination. Ali was an avid cook and gardener, he would often set up community gardens so people could volunteer and put healthy food on their table, and he was also known to throw open house dinner parties. He was inspired by the youth and eventually started combat lessons, teaching people how to channel their psionic abilities to their full potential.
Currently, Ali is a celebrated member of Central City, for his actions against the massive crime syndicates, he has a statue in his behalf, entitling him "the guardian of Central City." He plans to marry his fiancée and work towards being a possible diplomat and help improve the relations between G.U.N. and the new psammocratic state of Ramil (Persian: جمهوری ی شن ا رمل, jumhuriye shene Ramil).
Powers[]
Ali has the power to control fire, but rarely discusses this power because he feels that when he uses it too much, bad things happen. Despite this belief uses it plenty frequently when cooking and at parties, and demonstrates it during his combat lessons. In his native culture and religion of Ramil, fire is endowed as sacred and used in excess during his people's new year, which relates as to why the pyrocracy of Ramil has historically always been in power.
Abilities[]
As a caracal, Ali can sense vibrations through his feet, see well in the dark, and hear extremely well. When all three are put together, Ali is effectively unfazed by light differences and can see more than the average Mobian.
Skills[]
Ali can cook, fight with hands, fire, and is well trained with the shamshir (Persian: شمشیر, sword), a weapon used in Ramil for both tradition and combat. His native language is Farsi, as Ramil is meant to be a Mobian version of Iran. He started his combat training in his early teens, and even created several moves that took advantage of his pyrokinesis.
Weaknesses[]
Ali is very expressionate with his emotions to a fault, he can also be distracted by helping others and cares a little too much about his appearance. He dislikes the idea of using fire to kill, or sometimes at the very list, maim others, as his past inflictions have affected his mode of combat because of he fears what he was before.
Trivia[]
- Atesh is Farsi for fire.
- In Persian culture, fire is actually considered sacred, on nowruz, the Persian New Year, fire is often used to celebrate, and in the old Persian religion of Zoroastrianism, fire is worshipped.
- Ali's group of city watchmen, the Cheshman, comes from the word for eyes in Farsi.
- Ali has a tendency to forget to speak English and start talking in Farsi when excited or depressed.
