Syke the Lion (サイク・ザ・ライオン, Saiku za raion?) (actual name Simon) is a character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, he is an anthropomorphic lion & was the prince of a kingdom known as Sakaria. He has an array of amazing fire-based powers at his disposal, and has only touch the surface of his potential.
Born in Sakaria as royalty; he was to be the next in line to be one of the many kings that had protected their secret & ruled the land before, that was until his younger brother came in and their father decided to split the responsibility between him & his brother to ensure jealousy wouldn’t happen in the family. Then a horrid incident involving the Kyena Klan happened, it ended in majority of the kingdom enslaved and some dead, the latter of which was his parents… he was also split away from his brother. He thankfully nabbed the “Rings of Flame” before the Kyena Klan & has since taken an oath to keep it away from evil.
Syke has been described as stern, disciplined (at times…) & short-tempered, but he has a soft side as in caring for other whenever the moment calls & vulnerability even when he doesn’t like to show it.
Concept and creation[]
Syke was conceived by a Sonic Wiki user known as “Mozartmanz”, he quickly made him after seeing a post in where people were to share their OC’s. Not trying to feel left out he quickly made a unique OC with a decent design,
Background[]
The name of his birthplace, culture & architecture is inspired by Africa. He was also inspired by The Lion King to make him royalty, Simba’s struggles in the film also inspired Syke’s origin.
Redesign[]
On May 19th, 2025, Syke got a major redesign making look more natural & disciplined. He looks closer to how lions look in Sonic.
Appearance[]
Syke is an anthropomorphic lion with yellow fur on most of his body, tan fur on his muzzle and belly, and lastly a red mane and tail tip. He has circular ears on the top of his head, a circular nose and medium size snout.
He has white gloves with a bit of fluff on the cuffs, and claws come out of his gloves, lastly orange boots with white socks.

Syke was born April 12th on Sakaria; he was immediately put onto the status of royalty. He was to be next in line to be king until 4 years later when his brother, Joseph, was born, This made Axel split the responsibility between them both to make sure jealousy wouldn’t grow. When Axel was busy with king duties Melina would care for the children and as such was heavily Involved in their lives.
Kyena Klan Invasion[]
One day, Sakarian guards caught a Kyenian soldier in the outskirts of the kingdom, prompting all eyes on the outskirts til nightfall. Axel interrogated the intruder asking them questions in a stern tone, but no answers, the soldier refusing to talk.
Then an explosion was heard on the southern walls, Axel told his family to stay there and for Melina to lead them out of the kingdom. While they ran, they of course run into Kyenian guards, leading to Melina ushering Syke & Joseph to go while she fought back. Syke then realized that they couldn’t leave the Rings of Flame, so he and Joseph ran back to nab it, while in the process of getting it they get spotted by a Kyenian guard, Syke acts as a distraction so his brother can escape. Syke fortunately escaped but without his brother, He vowed to avenge his people & to keep the Rings of Flame from evil.

Meeting Team Sonic[]
While racing; Sonic, Tails & Knuckles stumble into the Sakarian Outskirts. And in a hidden spot, Syke saw them. Thinking they were a group of mercenaries hired by General Kisosha, he went after them.
Syke popped up from above, spooking some of the members. He would immediately begin question them about who they are and what their business was being here. Tails would speak their truth, Syke, being a bit skeptical, would leave them be. But Team Sonic was already interested in this mysterious figure. So they decided to follow him, considering they had nothing else to do. Syke would see them from behind, wondering why they were following with the reply being “Well, it is getting dark.” from Tails, he would reluctantly allow them to, on the condition they don’t attract any mercenaries.

Personality[]
Syke has a stern, disciplined yet short-tempered personality, but can also be vulnerable & caring at times. Having to grow in the outskirts by himself during the latter half of his childhood made him develop a bit of a quiet & serious attitude, He’s close in his dads demeanor but shows his mom’s soft-spoken behavior at times.
Syke doesn’t like being emotional, thinking it’s a sign of cowardice due to his culture demeaning negative emotions.
Powers and abilities[]
Syke, without the Rings of Flame equipped, holds only great agility, strength and speed. He’s also a skilled hand-to-hand combatant.
With the Rings of Flame equipped, he gets pyrokinesis, being able to use many skills, such as Flame Claw, Ablaze Wall etc.
Transformation[]
Flared Syke[]
When Syke’s temper gets exponentially high & his stress levels is all over the place he transforms into Flared Syke, a form that enhances all attributes and a trail of fire is left in his path. Only thing is that he’s out of control in this form. As he doesn’t talk, is cutthroat and will kill if necessary.
Weaknesses[]
He, like Sonic, does not like water. He can swim of course but if he tries jumping in water with the Rings of Flame on it will hurt him.

Trivia[]
- Syke’s name is actually a message to the Kyena Klan as a way to say “Sike, I’m still alive!”
- Syke is just slightly based off of Simba from the Lion King.
- Originally he was going to be a roadrunner, lizard & porcupine before landing on the lion.
