Sunset Black (サンセットブラック Sansettoburakk?, Couché de Soleil Noir) is a friend of the great hero Sonic the Hedgehog, and the chief of Team Sun.[1] He is an anthropomorphic teenager hedgehog, with the power to teleport, who was born on Sweet Hill,[2] before it was destroyed.[3]

He is a courageous hedgehog, and also very timid after the destruction of his native village, he remained on Green Hill, with his close friend, Sonic, although he normally lives in a small cabin made by his hands on Angel Island. He becomes heroic with his friends, battling the terrible Doctor Eggman and other such villains.

He likes the solitary life although he loves his friends very much and he likes to stay close to some like Shyny and Sonic. When he is in combat, he is not very hand to hand and quite sensitive, he stays away but when it comes to revenge or to save his friends, then he will not hesitate long to attack. During his adventures he learns to become stronger and more courageous, his motivation for revenge will transform into a desire to save his friends.

Sunset Black is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with orange fur, purple-colored eyes, and tan skin. He has five quills on the back of his head which are now going back to the top,[4] two on the back of his back, a short tail, and a three-strand fringe sometimes long enough to cover his right eye. He is dressed mostly wuth warm colors with white.

Past[]

Sunset was a simple hedgehog born in Sweet Hill who was destroyed when he was 5 years old, taking his father and mother with him in the fall of the village, as well as all his relations. Sunset then fled before being found by Sonic, a child of the same age as him, an orphan, who took him into his cabin. For fear of clinging to him, he decides to leave to live on Angel Island where he would have peace of mind. He spent nine years of his life alone in the company of Sunny, his little chao, until the surprise arrival of Sonic, who radically changed his life, once again.

Main Adventure Pre-Curse[]

The arrival of Sonic and Tails on Angel Island gave him a new opportunity to open up to the world he had wanted to reject. He followed Team Sonic in their quest to save Green Hill which allowed him to comfort his heart greatly. He found his neighbor, Tycy, although in a bad state, and knew the culprit of the destruction of his childhood, Ryky. He had the right to his revenge but did not go so far as to kill the person who promised to calm down. After these emotions, it was Doctor Eggman who had to be occupied, he often launched hostilities in the village of Green Hill, one of the fights led him to a house where he met Shyny, a shy artist with whom he quickly became very close.

The adventures follow one another quickly, and new allies and enemies appear, Doctor Eggman decides to ally himself with Team Dark, a team of mercenaries living in the ruins of a city ready to injure and kill for their well-being. A new enemy then introduces Team Power, a new team allied to Team Sonic and Team Sun, newly created after meeting Shyny. Next was the meeting of Rêver, another villain who finally ends Eggman's villainous career in the most brutal way possible, he will try to plunge Green Hill into an eternal and above all deadly sleep. But Rêver will not be the final villain, during a race between Sonic and Shadow, followed by Sunset will create the worst incident, two glitches like Sonic and Sunset, Ashura and Moonlight. Moonlight who manages to be calmed by Sonic but remains Sunset's rival, Ashura remains in his hatred. He refuses to know that he is only the copy of such a pitiful individual and prefers to destroy Sonic in order to remain the original and the only one.

After his first defeat, Ashura's hatred will not stop there, he will bring together Ryky and Rêver in a common battle against the heroes, in the form of a challenge which would have been launched by a certain Oona, and all the teams take up the challenge to discover who was really behind it, once the matter is resolved the real Oona joins the ranks of Team Power, and after a few more calm adventures, Ashura decides to attack harder, just to put an end to it once and for all whatever the price.

Main Adventure Post-Curse[]

After hearing a legend with the power to make its user more powerful, to curse his enemies and above all to destroy this world, he set out in search of Dark Gaia and found him. So he saw himself becoming more powerful and also capable of cursing Sunset, Shyny, Sonic, Knuckles and Joydan, he ordered the divinity to destroy the world at the cost of his own life in a year, to the day, to give him time to savor his victory, but which will at the same time awaken Dark Gaia's twin, Light Gaia, who will grant the power to counter this power, unfortunately, just as at the risk of his life, and power was conferred on Shyny. Shyny saved the world but the price was heavy for Sunset, who had become his lover throughout the adventures. All he kept of himself was his favorite flower which he kept in its quills.

Adventure Post-Incident[]

Sunset continues his adventures with Team Sonic although once again weakened, he will continue multiple adventures for the good of this planet.

Personality[]

Sunset is very closed in on himself and shy, he had a hard time getting attached to people but in order not to hurt those who get attached to him, he gets attached to them in exchange. He likes solitude,[5] and is very well able to live like this without regretting anything, but on the other hand, he is ready to play the hero for his friends[6] and would never say no to a little adventure with them or never refuse them help.[7]

Sunset is the calm and peaceful type, he prefers to hide to cry or show other types of emotion, but if you annoy him on purpose or if you embarrass him even without wanting to be mean, then he can be fierce see naughty for a few minutes.[8] At first sight, he looks not very friendly, but he is a sincere and honest friend with a big heart.[9]

Since Sunset is shy, he doesn't have too much confidence in himself, although Sonic encourages him all the time, he sees himself as incapable or too fragile for the fight, although sometimes he wishes he could do more to help. if you hurt one of his friends, he won't care about his body or his own mind and will attack without thinking,[10] although Sonic spends his time trying to boost his ego in all circumstances.

When Sunset fights, if he is down or loses, he will always raise his head but will not be overwhelmed with more anger if only he is hurt, he does not consider himself especially important in these eyes. but for the games too, Sunset remains fair play, he will never blame the winner but if it is not a close friend, he will not feel joy for them either.

After the Sweet Hill incident, Sunset maintains a constant hatred and sadness in his heart that he can't really heal even though Sonic tries to help him,[11] that's what he scares the most when making friends. To lose them as he believed to lose his childhood friend, Tycy,[12] it was a trauma for him. he's got a lot of scars deep inside him that he can't heal even if he often translates his fear into aggressiveness.

He places his trust in a few people, the only ones being Sonic and Shyny, because he's the type who's afraid of bonding too much, but he won't let anyone hurt his friends, or whoever, he won't put up with that. so even if he doesn't really want relationships of any type, he will always help his neighbor.

Sunset is not the type to forgive things easily,[13] especially depending on the seriousness of the situation, but he can act like he has forgotten, but he will always be hurt, especially if he is not a friend or a friend too much close.

Sunset is quite intelligent and can figure out more complex puzzles on his own and quickly, yet he doesn't call himself intelligent, and remains quiet when he comes up with plans or solutions. He's not the talkative type to talk about what he finds or how they feel, anyway.

Sunset is not the type of mover, dancer or acrobat unlike his friend Sonic, as he stays away from any fight,[14] he is not very comfortable moving acrobatically and is not very agile.

  • Combative: Sunset is pretty weak physically as morally, especially in the arc 1, after the first arc, his volunteer to fight, to defend his friends, surprisingly increased, he won't give up so easily and know it, he will fight til the end, until he become too weak to fight. The only diff with Sonic, Sonic may fight to death, Sunset got enough compassion to know where he should stop, to not hurt his friends if he would ever die.
  • Teleportation: Sunset can use his rings to teleport himself, other people or object to any place, as long as he can visualize it. Only he can use his rings, because the power of his mother is inside of his hands, and only his power may activate them. Those teleportation rings may still be used as attacks, as he did in the first arc against Ryky, his sworn ennemy. He shares the capacity with Moonlight and Ryky.
  • Power: Lune the Hedgehog was pretty powerful, he only usually uses this capacity for teleportation. Sunset got other power, such as Sunrise, but he isn't aware of them himself, he just activates them without even thinking, in case of danger.
  • Chaos Power: Like Sonic, Shyny, Ashura, Shadow, Amy and Moonlight, he can use the Emerald power, which allows him to use multiple forms, such as, Super, Dark, Hyper and such.
  • Spin-attack: Copied from Sonic in arc 1 against Ryky, he learned how to do that, he share the capacity with Sonic, Tails, Shadow, Ashura, Moonlight, Knuckles, Ryky, Shyny, and Joydan, he is slower than Sonic, obviously.

Sunset is equipped with magic rings at the level of his wrists, which he never leaves, since he was 5 years old,[15] the day when his father is given to him for his birthday, even to sleep. His rings have the power to teleport whoever and what they want wherever he wants, his powers were those of Soleil, his father combined with a little of the magic of Lune, his mother. Sunset being the only one to have inherited the powers of Lune is therefore the only one who can control them.

Sunset has a very low self-esteem and can be quite weak, which greatly reduces his chances in fights, also because he is shy, and he does not dare, he prefers to support Sonic even if he needs to he would go into battle without thinking, according to Sonic, he's wasting his potential. Sunset also has trouble healing from the past as his heart has trouble moving on, which makes it difficult for him to control his emotions and can easily make him fierce or mean for nothing, even just because he's embarrassed.
