Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic Freedom)

Sonic the Hedgehog is an alternate version of Sonic the Hedgehog that appears as the protagonist of the upcoming action role-playing video game Sonic Freedom and its related media. He is the legendary hero of Mobius who's fought against Dr. Eggman's regime countless times. Unbeknownst to him, he is chosen by the Gods of Mobius to fulfill a greater destiny as told by the Mobian mythos. He is voiced by Ryan Drummond.

Sonic is the main protagonist of the universe that spans the 2016 animated film, the game and the animated TV series. In the game he is the de-facto leader of the now defunct Freedom Fighters, a group of young Mobians whose goal was to establish freedom in Mobius from the evil Dr. Eggman. Sonic works at his uncle's hot dog restaurant but has kept close affiliations with the royal family, particularly with Princess Sally Acorn, the King's daughter. Sonic's character evolves dramatically over the events of the game. At first, he is depicted as an easy-going youth with little sense of what is really happening outside the world he lives in. As the story unwinds and Sonic explores the outside world, he develops an understanding of the harsh reality that exists. While in the beginning he dismisses the Mobian mythology as a silly fairy-tale for children, Sonic comes to understand that the Mobian mythos is in actuality a philosophy, which will enable him to communicate with the Gods and lend him their blessings in order to fulfill a greater destinty entrusted to him.

Early in the film, Sonic is introduced as a nobody who lives with his uncle and advertises his chili-dogs dressed up as a chili-dog, widely unknown by the public. Soon, however, he is chosen by the king secretly to undertake the task of finding the 7 Chaos Emeralds before Dr. Robotnik does. It is his energetic spirit, his kind and incorruptible soul that leads King Maximillian to this decision, that he is the only one who can face Robotnik. Throughout the film, Sonic develops an understanding of the harsh reality the Humans and the Mobians experience and it is when he finds a flag among the rubbles with the word "FREEDOM" written on it, left by the Humans, that he is imbued by the concept of freedom. From then on, Sonic acknowledges that his purpose is not only to defeat Robotnik; he is destined to end the endless war between the Humans and the Mobians so that the world can know peace once more

Gameplay

Sonic is the player's first character he takes control of and the captain of the team throughout most of the game. He is the fastest character on foot, enabling him to cover enormous distances in the world map in a short period of time. In battle, Sonic has by far the fastest execution speed of attacks than any other character. He specializes in close combat and teamwork.

While mostly relying on his speed, Sonic fights using a flag as his primary weapon. His default weapon, the Flag of the Freedom Fighter possesses the emblem of the Kingdom of Acorn. It also has a sharp apex which enables its use as a polearm. The flag is Sonic's only weapon that can be equipped to him and cannot use any other weapons in battle. Flags are also a unique weapon, used exclusively by Sonic. It is a symbol of freedom.

Alternatively, Sonic battles using close combat attacks with his fists and his legs. He can perform roundhouse kicks, L-kicks, drop kicks etc and combo them nicely with follow-up attacks. In addition, Sonic can lock-on to enemies and instantly boost dash in front of them to attack. Depending on the direction of the left analogue stick, Sonic can perform a different variant of his equipped attack. In air, Sonic can perform a homing attack and a spin attack, as well as use his quills.

Some of Sonic's attacks are wind-based and can inflict confusion as a status ailment to the enemy. By default Sonic can be affected by any status ailment but has 25% resistance to wind-based attacks. He has mediocre strength, stamina, skill and defense but has the highest speed than any other character in the game.

Sonic does not use magic or firearms. He is, however, the only character who can perform a Summon as this technique is available only to him, giving him a big advantage over other party members. Summons, however, can be perfomed by characters other than Sonic only once Story mode has been completed.

Sonic possesses a number of Combined Skill Attacks, some of which are with up to 3 different party members.

Miles "Tails" Prower

Tails is Sonic's closest friend and the two share a brotherly bond together. Prior to the events depicted in Sonic Freedom, Tails fell into a coma after battling against Dr. Eggman's ultimate mech 2 years ago, and has been in the Knothole City Hospital ever since, under the supervision of Dr. Quack. Sonic visits Tails at the hospital every day, hoping that Tails will wake up one day.

Mina Mongoose

Mina is an aspiring singer who has a hidden infatuation with Sonic. Amy is the only one who is aware of this and the two frequently quarrel over him. As Sonic, the player has the chance to go talk to her in Knothole, before they leave for their search for Hope. Mina can be found in Pythagoras Square, next to concert set, shere she will give the player various side quests to perform. Her side quest The Flowers of Love awards the player with the Skill Attack Influence.
