Overview
The nefarious Dr. Eggman has hatched yet another of his villainous schemes. This time, the devious doctor has interrupted the Festival of the Sun in the kingdom of Soleanna, kidnapping the beloved Princess Elise in the hope of using her to harness the mysterious power of the "Flames of Disaster". As Sonic attempts to foil his long-time foe's evil plan, events are complicated by a mysterious new enemy, claiming to be from the future...
In the midst of the chaos, secrets await to be uncovered. Is there more to this crisis than there seems?
Note: Despite the fact that onomatopoeia is not really supposed to be used to portray laughter in books, I will use it for Eggman's laughter. A laugh as crazy and overexaggerated as his cannot possibly be portrayed from a narrative point of view. Just thougth I'd let you know. XD

Prologue: The Festival Of The Sun[]
Soleanna had always been beautiful at night, but tonight, it was even more so.
Princess Elise thought as much herself as she stood at the head of the ceremonial barge as it travelled down the canal, a traditional boat fitted with as many oars as were practical for use with a flat surface, grey like the rest of the barge, emblazoned with the insignia of the Soleannan royal family and packed with dancers is pretty yellow dresses, twirling and prancing in silent beauty like gazelles, in perfect unison, not a moment out of sync. ess their beloved princess give thanks to their deity, making sure to face all angles and show everybody her gratitude for having travelled so far. And it was no wonder they had; Elise was a beautiful girl, dressed in a silver dress that came to about halfway above her knees, its rim decorated by grey shapes with the royal insignia embroidered upon them. The dress also had a gold "X"-shaped pattern that ran across her chest. Its arms only just covered her shoulders, while the majority of her arm was concealed by a pair of long white gloves. As she continued to wave to her people, the bangs of her light brown hair fluttering gently in the breeze along with the heavenly white feathers of the silver tiara, which was mostly concealed by her hair and only emerged on her temples.
As the barge emerged from under a triangular bridge connecting the two sides of the city, she felt Soleanna, its gleaming night sky, bright lights and cheering crowds fade away. All of a sudden she was floating high above Soleanna, her dress and hair being tugged by far stronger winds. The entire city was awash in a crimson glow, the source of which was what now faced the confused princess. Her eyes widened as she stared at the towering inferno in the distance, even more so when she saw a monstrous figure lurch into life amidst it, bathed in flames. The seemingly rock-like behemoth raised its jagged, malformed head aloft. Despite being on the other side of the city, Elise could feel its beady, malicious green eyes pierce her very soul.
It snapped into life and roared with the fierce rage of a thousand armies.
“Miss Elise?” a woman’s voice called to Elise with concern.
Within that split second, Elise was back on the barge again. Her floating in the sky, the flames...the rock-monster. It was all gone.
Could it have been real?
No. That’d be a silly thing to believe for a 17-year-old girl. A princess, at that. Elise put it down to a lack of sleep, shook her head and forgot about it.
“I’m…it’s fine,” the princess reassured the hooded woman, one of her aides, on her left. The other aide to her right looked at her briefly but remained silent. She began her routine of smiling and waving, until, at last, the barge docked at the elaborate stone structure in the centre of the canal, where it rounded out into a large, circular lake. It consisted of a large open foothold, with narrow pathways leading to several other, smaller “podiums”. In front of her where two hooded people in yellow robes and a very short priest in a white and red robe. His face revealed absolutely nothing and his hands were nowhere to be seen. Behind the three figures was a large stone support, upon which sat an even larger metal basin, which was also decorated with the royal seal, which was also the symbol used to refer to Soleanna’s deity – the everlasting sun god, Solaris. There was an elaborate series of thin metal lined which curved and intertwined like a web, starting along the sides of where she now stood and ending just atop the metal basin. The crowd had gone silent, eagerly awaiting the quintessential moment of the Festival of the Sun: the lighting of Soleanna’s “sun". One of Elise’s aides handed her a silver torch, burning bright with happiness and hope.
It was time.
“We give thanks for the blessed flames. May we always continue to have peace,” she said aloud. “Sun of Soleanna, guide and watch over us with your eternal light,” she finished, approaching a smaller “basin” just before her and gently allowing the torch to make contact. In a few mere seconds, the flames had leapt from the torch, lit the basin before her, blazed across the web of metal railings and finally lit a great fire atop the centre basin, a heart of fire for a city of the sun.
She turned away from the priests and bodyguards around her to face her people with another beautiful smile as fireworks whistles and exploded, dotting the purple-ish night sky with their cherubic flares.
However, unbeknownst to Elise, fireworks were not the only projectiles whistling around in Soleanna.
A few short seconds after Elise had performed the ceremony, the stucture she stood upon and several surroundign buildings were bombarded by a few dozen missiles, the noise of their cataclysmic explosions drowning out he fireworks. She hunched over, screaming breifly with shock as one of the projectiles exploded mere metres away.

The noise and clamour of the calamity was drowned out by the sinister droning of a huge battleship looming in the sky overhead. A pair of sinister red lights danced around wildly, as if searchign for something. Just behind them, a hatch opened up and about a dozen mechanical contraptions dropped out of the sky. The robots landed in a circle around Elise, her aides and the priests, each of them cracking the ground upon impact. Their thin metal arms eneded in silver nozzles, each raised and aimed at Elise.

Dr. Eggman
hined in the princess' ears, a round hovercraft slowly descending from above, like a UFO. In its open cockpit stood a large, rotund man in tight black pants and a strange, extravagant red jackt, decorated with white stripes and gold buckles. His hands were concealed beneath white gloves. He was completely bald, bar a pair of goggles with green lenses that sat atop his head. His eyes were masked by a pair of small, round one-way sunglasses and he had a copper-brown moustache shaped unlike any the princess had ever seen, anda ppeared to be incredibly well-grooomed. His nose, unlike his beige skin, was a deep shade of pink, for some reason.
"OOOOOOH HO HO HO HO HO HO HO! What a priviliege it is to meet you at long last, Princess of Soleanna!" the man exclaimed boisterously, bowing somewhat mockingly. His speech was exaggerated, his voice gravelly and throaty. "I am Dr. Eggman, and I've come to unlock the secret of the Flames of Disaster! But, in order to that, I must have you, and the seven miracle gems, the Chaos Emeralds, one of which I have reason to believe is on your person, highness. If you would be so kind as to accompany me back to my ship and hand over your Emerald, it would be much appreciated," Dr. Eggman finished. He gesticulated superflouously to the seat of his orb-like vehicle and awaited Elise's response. Elise slowly shook her head, clasping her hands together nervously and slowly backing away from Eggman and his pod.
As she did so, a she felt the wind pick up around her as a blue haze burst into life, then vanished as soon as it has appeared.
"Nice little show you got goin' on here, Eggman!" a cocky young voice called out, it's tone full of energy. Elise turned sharpy, following Dr. Eggman's gaze. Above her stood a strange blue hedgehog, perhaps about three feet tall, with red shoes and white gloves and a wry smile on his face.
"Huh?" she grunted, confused enough as it was.
"Not you again!" Eggman growled, baring his teeth in frustration. "Terminate him!"
"I don't think so, Doc!" the blue hedgehog retorted before bursting into life, become ntohign more than a blur as he whizzed around Elise, Eggman and the other humans present. The princess watched in awe as the stauch, intimidating robots surrounding her were blown away one by one. The hedgehog stopped just in front of the last robot, the force of him stopping dead in front of it after running around at such a high speed sent a shockwave through it, leaving it standing, but limp. The hedgehog lifted his leg and tapped the mech with the tip of his shoe. A dull, metallic sound resounded in the air as the limp pile of junk toppled over the edge and into the water below. The mysterious blue stranger then directed his attention to Elise, scurrying over to her and scooping her up in his arms.
"Who...are you?" Elise questioned hesitantly.
"I'm Sonic," the hedgehog answered enthusiastically, "Sonic the Hedgehog!"
And with that, Sonic was off once again, and before Elise knew she was even moving, she was on the street by the canal, and still rushing forward, the whole of Soleanna almost indistinguishable.
Meanwhile, Dr. Eggman slammed his fist down forcefully on the control panel of his pod and growled throatily.
"Ooooh, I hate that hedgehog!" he despaired. Suddenly, he realised the silence, despite more of his robot entourage hovering around him, awaiting orders. "What are you wating for?! ATTACK!" he boomed, pointing at the blue blur in the distance. No sooner had Eggman given to order than the mechs had opened fire on their master's nemesis, lauching more missiles his way.
Elise cried out as they exploded just a short distance behind her and her rescuer, Sonic somehow managing to dodge each and every one of the projectiles with magnificent and unbbelieveable speed.
He turned the corner sharply and was out of sight.

High above the commotion, a silver hedgehog was watching from afar as a blue hedgehog zoomed away from the scene, a girl cradled in his arms, explosions recording his trail.
He clenched his gloved hand tightly into a fist and half-smiled.
"I finally found him...the Iblis Trigger..."
