Sonic Recon is a platform video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series developed by Sonic Team and Published by Sega. It was released for the 7th of November 2021 for Xbox One and PS4 and later on Steam and the Epic Games store on the 16th of December. Later, a rerelease on the Nintendo Switch released on January 8th 2022. Sonic Recon got Rereleased again for the PS5 and Xbox Series X on the 4th of September with all the DLC and a few Quality of life Updates. Sonic Recon follows Sonic The Hedgehog and the newly reformed resistance in a high octane race against time to save the world after the war. Where new and old enemies try to rule the world after the mysterious disappearance of Dr Eggman. The Storyline is based on IDW sonic, specifically the First Saga
The Game marks the return of Multiple playable characters, Hubs Worlds and the adventure formula (albeit heavily modified) since Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 and Sonic Unleashed. In addition it also introduces Comic specific characters into The main series. The Game also serves as the 30th-anniversary game for Sonic the hedgehog.
Development
After Sonic Forces, Sonic Team began development of the game in 2018. Sonic Team wanted to return to form for 3D Sonic but with a new spin on the adventure formula, they also wanted to push graphical capabilities for next gen and Current Gen. Also wanting to move away from the more comedic era of sonic due to the negative reception of the stories in Sonic Lost World, Sonic Forces and Team Sonic Racing. Sega Demoted Warren and Pontacc from lead writers to assistant writers and hired Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley as the lead Writers for the Following sonic stories for the future. The Game was teased via a tweet on the 29th anniversary. The game was officially announced in a sonic Central on April 29th with Sonic Mania Heroes and Sonic Riders Velocity. In the trailer they showed the main plot, Tails and Tangle as Playable Characters and 3 stages from the main game (Radiant Hill, Neon City and Radioactive Station).
In the following months they announced More stuff, including Knuckles, Amy and Whisper, the multiple stages in the game, the story and multiplayer. On September 1st a Demo shadowed dropped and was announced on the same day giving 3 stages, Radiant Hill Act 1 (Sonic), Neon City Act 2 (Tangle)/Egg Sentinel Boss (Sonic & Tangle) and Cliffside Forest Act 3 (Whisper)/Mimic Boss. The Demo and the game as whole was given high praise seeming Sonic Team having learned their lesson after Forces.
Plot
6 months After the war Dr Eggman has not returned but his robot army still ambushes, albite unorganised, in the month of June the attacks get more organised, with legions of robots Storming different cities. Leading the resistance to form again only without Sonic.
One day Sonic sees a village in Radiant Hill being attacked by A lot of Badniks including some Death egg Robots. After running through Radiant Hill, Sonic tries to protect the village by defeating as many Badniks as he can, he succeeds only for a little bit but his short victory stops after some Egg Hammers try to squash him, at the last second Tails Saves him and Together defeat the Eggman Army.
After they stop the army they check if the villagers are okay by talking to All of them. After they do a short check-up, Sonic and Tails talk about how it's suspicious that the armies are getting more organised and have stronger robots, Sonic Dismisses it. Tails then tells Sonic that Amy and Knuckles are going to different villages in radiant Hill and that they are trying to stop the other robot armies. Sonic asks Tails if he wants to come but for a second looks excited wanting to go but declines due to wanting to help the villagers
In a few hours later in the evening another Eggman army attacks in another village this time with a Death Crab. Amy goes to check the village out, overwhelmed by the Amount of Eggman Badniks Sonic comes in the nick of time to help her and destroy the Death Crab. After they defeat the egg crab, Amy tries to convince Sonic to rejoin the Resistance but declines due to what tails said about the Organised attacks. Amy is a bit angry at sonic but somewhat understands, Sonic liking a more mature Amy decides to ask her if they should look around together. Amy declines as she has work to do in the resistance.
In the night Ex Commander now General Knuckles is going the westside village of the radiant hill. The gate is locked due go the fear of Badniks attacking the Town. A monkey tells knuckles to go Away. Knuckles gets angrier and tells him he is the general of the resistance. The monkey looks behind seeing 2 skunks threatening to kill him if he says anything, but the monkey screams that they are being held captive. The skunks capture the monkey leading to knuckles to break the gate open and go in.
Going through the town Knuckles fights some Robots and later an Egg hammer. Sonic nearby goes up to knuckles wanting to aid him on his mission. They eventually find a cottage with noise in It. Sonic proposes to be stealthy but knuckles busts the door open. They then find that the two skunks that knuckles saw are evil and have a few Villagers and Wisps as slaves.
The skunks look surprised as Sonic and knuckles are trying to Stop Them. The skunks introduce themselves as rough and tumble. While sonic bursts out laughing knuckles Takes Them seriously. A fight ensues, although the skunks have the high ground with Tumble’s powerful spray, our Heroes Reign triumphant.
After the fight, Knuckles and Sonic free the Slaves and Wisps that the Skunks had and arrest them, putting Them In jail. Knuckles trying to seem to swallow his pride, says thanks Sonic and say he couldn't have defeated the skunks without him. Sonic looking embarrassed welcomes his praise and parties With the citizens in the night.
It then shifts focus to a shadowed figure, with Orbot and Cubot right next them. Orbot exclaims that Sonic and the resistance has taken out over 60% of Badnik resources, saying if they don't stop sending as much as they do, the Eggman Empire could fall. The Shadow Figure silences Orbot, telling him that this is a part of his plan. The Shadow Figure notes that the Knuckles is not guarding the Master emerald nor that the Chaos Emeralds are in Anyone’s Hands. The Shadow figure laughs menacingly ending the cutscene.
After the fight and party, Sonic goes around Radiant Hill to destroy More badniks, but comes off short. Sonic then gets a call from the Chaotix; Episo tells Sonic that he has found something big while Vector is Chasing Charmy in the background in a mountainous Forest area. Sonic Tracks Episo location in the Cliffside Forest.
After running through a forest area, Sonic finds Episo and tries to see what’s going on. Episo tells him it has something to do with Eggman, Sonic immediately gets more curious, Vector and Charmy join in to, telling Sonic that Eggman has been acting strangely for the past few days
Sonic and the Chaotix eventually end up in the village, with Vector calling for a Mr Tinker. Eggman comes out with a Green Overalls, pink shirt and green and pink flip-flops comes out. Sonic ready to attack and says: “Missed me Baldy Mcnosehair!” but gets stopped by the village mayor (an Overweight Goat) named goateus and tells Sonic what is happening with Dr Eggman.
Goateus explains that a Week after the war Eggman appeared from a Red Nullspace Portal; the Villagers were scared that Eggman would attack the with his badniks, so they locked him up In a prison. After asking him a few questions they find out that Eggman has lost his Memory. A Villager called the resistance, since most them were busy the Chaotix came instead to help With the situation. They then want to reshape Eggman to become a good guy.
Sonic goes near Mr Tinker and asks if he remembered the war, Eggman says he Does not any War apart from fixing the mayor’s toilet. Sonic asks If he remembers him and says no. The Chaotix say that he has no memory of his past life being Eggman and is the complete opposite of what Dr Eggman is.
A monkey 6 year-old kid then tells Sonic that Eggman (or Mr Tinker) is a lovely man, that he fixed and improved his bike After it Broke from Falling to the mountain below and begs sonic not to take him to the resistance. Many other villagers tell their experiences with Mr Tinker, seeing how he fixed and advanced the Village technology and defences from Badniks.
Mr Tinker then asks that he has something to show sonic, the Chaotix and the mayor come too. Sonic looks more on edge. When they arrive to the area. Sonic gets in a homing attack stance only to see that Mr Tinker is working on Tinker-Land and Tink-Bots (which look very similar to the Egg Pawns but green).
Sonic questions Tinker a bit more with him asking if he remembers any of his evil schemes, asking him about the time he enslaved aliens or when he teamed with a younger version of himself or when he destroyed the moon in half and had to fix it for his Sentence and even when he split the Earth into multiple different pieces.
Mr Tinker says he doesn't know any of what he did and says that sounds horrible and wants to change and help people for good if that’s what he did. Sonic accepts that Mr Tinker has no memory of Dr Eggman and says sorry for calling him Baldy Mcnosehiar. Sonic introduces himself as Sonic Marice Needlemouse or just Sonic the Hedgehog. Mr Tinker introduces himself as Ivo Albert Tinker.
Sonic has a sigh of relief after talking to Mr Tinker and says there is nothing to worry about. But Goateus wants to speak to sonic and the Chaotix in private. Goatus explains that if Mr Tinker sees enough parts of Dr Eggman or something so impactful to his past life then he will revert back to Eggman and be completely different and crueller to the of the Past due to his experiences. With each minor memory some of Eggman Will be restored. Sonic wonders if Baldy Mcnosehair has restored some memory of Eggman, Goateus says it may if He calls him that regularly and doesn't like it.
Sonic asks if he is going to turn back to Eggman over time,; Goateus says it's possible but unlikely and that he is in a stable state of not remembering his past life and only has a few slight memories of him. Sonic and the Chaotix then hear the Villagers screaming and sees Shadow and rouge Taking and Arresting Mr Tinker.
Sonic tells Shadow that Mr Tinker doesn't remember anything what Eggman did and could start anew. Shadow dismisses Sonic’s plea and pushes him aside; Rouge tells Sonic that Shadow isn't listening to anyone and wants Eggman/Mr Tinker not to be forgiven for his actions Against humanity. Sonic tries to reason with Shadow but Shadow pushes Sonic to the mountains and gets Mr Tinker by the hand, implying he will kill him. Sonic has had enough of Shadow And fights him.
Sonic and Shadow are at a stalemate and are tired but won’t give up the fight. Sonic and Shadow Boost towards each other and created an explosion, Before any more damage is done Mr Tinker stops both of them by standing in between them. Mr Tinker tells Shadow that he is sorry for the damage that this Eggman has done and wants To rectify it by making as many improvements as possible.
Shadow leaves without notice and accepts defeat; Rouge follows Shadow and apologises for what Shadow has done and goes with him. Sonic checks if everyone is okay and sees that everyone is fine, but Mr Tinker seems very sad about what this Eggman has done and what's to leave in solitude, away from Everyone. Sonic tells Mr Tinker that it doesn't matter what happens in the past what you make of the present and future. Mr Tinker seems a lot happier and goes to his workshop to finish Tinker-land.
In the evening, Sonic gets a phone call from his watch from Tails. He says that something big is happening and is tracking his location in the Cliffside Mountain. Tails finds sonic but is sleeping on a hammock and decides not to disturb him. Meanwhile in the Lowest part of the Cliffside Mountains, a Wolf girl named Whisper is has a multi wispon and grapples to a nearby Branch and runs through the Forest.
Whisper then finds a Dark blue emerald on a big stump of a tree, but is attacked by a levitating Blue Octopus (named Mimic). The Octopus knows Whisper and asks her for the Emerald but she declines, Mimic then ambushes her and gets the Chaos Emerald, absorbing its power, allowing him to shape-shift into other beings, using their powers, he can also levitate and shoot blue energy balls in his normal state. Whisper Barely manages to defeat Mimic, but Mimic tells Whisper that she is worthless. Mimic then teleports away from her leaving Whisper crying.
The Next day Sonic wakes and gets a chilli dog for his breakfast and finds Tails is in the Village; Tails explains he is done helping the Vilalagers in Radiant Hill by setting up defences around it. Sonic asks what he has found, Tails about to tell him sees Eggman (or Mr Tinker) and attacks him. Sonic and Goateus explain to Tails the situation in an inaudible cutscene. Tails looking more on edge about this checks by using some of Mr Tinker’s Tools.
Tails after 20 minutes finds out that Mr Tinker thoughts fill 90% of his Mind while 5% of his mind is Eggman, the other 5% is undetermined. Tails tells Sonic that they should keep an eye on him and should let him stay away from anything Eggman related. Tails then leads sonic to the tornado. After Tails helped with the Villagers in Radiant Hill, he went with the Tornado on a flight to the city to get some supplies for the Resistance. He then spotted the Egg Carrier, the ship then was shooting at him. Tails turns around before the Tornado gets more damage and goes to the Cliffside Mountains. Tails says that the Egg Carrier is still probably still their and that they should
Sonic and Tails go on to the Tornado and go to find the Egg Carrier. Sonic and Tails eventually find the ship and Go in it; they find mostly Egg Pawns and Badniks in there that they Are half damaged. Sonic eventually goes to the centre Of the Egg Carrier. Sonic finds a person on a chair and sees Orbit and Cubot Talking to someone. Eventually they see that the person on the chair turns around Seeing it’s Eggman. Sonic looks confused and asks why he was here when he was in the village.
Eggman tells sonic he is lying and says that he was staying quiet because he is working on something big. Sonic sees and senses that Eggman is lying and it may not be Eggman at all, He Spin-dashes to him making him fall to the Egg Carrier part below. Sonic sees that Eggman is sparking from the fall, so then sonic punches Eggman making him turn into Neo Metal Sonic.
Sonic looks surprised and ask why he is changing into Eggman, Metal Sonic avoids the question and then Battles with Sonic. Metal Sonic antagonises Sonic, telling him that he will always be the best sonic. Sonic dismisses this and manages to defeat Neo Metal Sonic, but only for a little while as Neo Metal Sonic gathers data from Sonic’s moves and attacks. Neo then uses The Boost that sonic used during the fight and managed to weaken Sonic. Metal Sonic was about to spin-dash to sonic when he gives a hand-wave to the sky, signalling Tails and Tornado. Sonic then jumps off the edge of the Egg Carrier, saluting while doing it.
Sonic in the nick of time, gets saved by tails leading Neo Metal Sonic to leave them alone and going back into the Egg Carrier. Tails and Sonic go back to the Resistance HQ telling everything that has happened over the Last few days. Knuckles seems weirded out about this and says he would have taken out Neo Metal Sonic and taken care of Eggman. Amy says that they have intel that they found out what Neo Metal Sonic is planning, he is planning to use the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald to use for intel dimensional world domination with a new stone with his henchmen.
Knuckles looks more interested and angrier that Metal Sonic is after the Master Emerald and could go to it any second; Amy says they have already have set up a few of their troops and Tink-Bots there to stop any Eggman Badniks from getting the Emerald, Knuckles while more relived, still wants to be On the Island to mainly protect it.
Amy doesn't want him to go as he is still needed to do Resistance duties. Knuckles looking more angry Accepts defeat. Amy then finds out that the Grey Chaos Emerald is in a Abandoned Eggman Factory and sends Sonic and Knuckles To find it. After walking through the Factory Sonic and Knuckles are eventually are ganged up by a bunch of Eggman Badniks That are partially damaged. Sonic and Knuckles get saved by Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat. Sonic seems thankful that they help while Knuckles is trying to swallow his pride and act like he could have destroyed the Robots.
While walking through the Factory, Sonic asks why they are here in his world; Silver first says after the war, he came back to the future and everything was fine until a few hours ago where everything was gone, and he was standing in a rocky area. Knuckles asks about Blaze and she says that the Sol Emeralds predicted a Dimension destruction event that would cause the end of all dimensions.
Sonic and Knuckles before they could ask more questions get attacked by a new E robot, E-107 Theta. Knuckles manages to beat the robot by himself, but gets ambushed by more Egg hammers, when it looks like it's all over, a blue beam and something that turnef thrn into blue coins destroys the robots. Blaze, Knuckles and Sonic look confused but Silver seems ecstatic, sonic asks why when sliver explains that the person who emitted the beam was a mysterious vigilante who helped the cilivians while sonic was gone during the war.
Blaze asks about what war and sonic explains that he nearly died during it. Blaze looks concerned that they didn't tell her about the war and that she could have helped. Regardless, Knuckles notices that sliver is gone, with the others getting worried that he may of been captured by a Eggman Robot. They hurry around the Factory looking for him when they find him calling for "Wolfie". Blaze looks disappointed and angry That he left without any notice.
Sliver apologizes and says he really wanted to see the vigilante. Suddenly, a large Group of Eggman Robots ambush the group with them being helpless. Then the vigilante comes down and then saves the group with her multi-Wispon. Sliver seems really excited he has finally seen her fully and asks her many questions, her name, her age, and so much more. She then tells to leave Her alone. Silver apologises and tells he will and questions when she is ready. The Vigilante quietly says her name is whisper.
Sonic, while Silver asks Whisper way too many questions again, finds the Chaos Emerald and reports it to Amy that she has found it. Sonic announces he has found with everyone looking at him, Whisper uses this opportunity to use the Jade Wisp and disappears into thin air. Sliver asks if Whisper has seen a Chaos Emerald before when he sees that he is talking to No-one. Silver looks sad that she scared of Whisper with Blaze telling Sliver that she seems nervous and says Sliver can be a bit overwhelming To people. Silver seemingly disappointed goes away from the group.
Sonic and Knuckles go back to the Resistance giving the Chaos Emerald to Amy. Amy tells Sonic that in the Neon City an Eggman Sentinel is in the city, destroying it. Amy also tells Sonic that a new upcoming recruit of the Resistance is there to check it out but hasn't responded or said anything. Sonic Rushes to the city and Finds the Civilians running away from The Egg Sentinel. Sonic goes through the city to try find The new recruit. Sonic walking through a rooftop of a building, reports back to Amy and says he hasn't found he steps on a long grey tail that picked him up and nearly strangled him to death.
After a few pleas for help from Sonic and The Mysterious person seeing who it is, they drop him down. The Person repeatedly says sorry and tells him that her name is Tangle. Sonic says it's okay and he asks if they are the new recruit. Sonic then asks why she hasn't reported back to the Resistance. She says that Eggman’s Robots have taken over the communication towers and she couldn't take down the Robot as it's too big for her tail. Sonic and Tangle team up and go to defeat the Eggman robots and Find the Sentinel.
The duo then find the Egg Sentinel in the Streets of the City and a few G.U.N Soldiers try to defeat it; After the G.U.N Soldiers Fail, they both decide to team up to Defeat the sentinel. After a tough battle, the heroes win, but will the robot fall to the ground and destroy a lot of The city, Tangle, acts fast by using her tail to stop it. Sonic looking very impressed, high fives tangle. Before the two go, they greeted by the G.U.N General (Abraham Tower) Thanking them for their Heroics.
Later in the Evening, Tails goes to the City to get supplies for himself; he then sees a few Badniks with a Platypus telling them to find a Purple chaos emerald, reluctantly Tails calls out the Platypus and follows him. Tails finds the Purple Chaos Emeralds but suddenly gets ambushed by the Platypus, telling him to mind his own business. Tails tries to get the emerald and fights him for it. Tails failed to obtain the emerald and the Platypus and gets captured by a few Eggman Robots.
Meanwhile, back in the HQ, Sonic and Tangle inform Amy about what has happened. Sonic wonders where Tails is; Amy and Knuckles say they don't know. Sonic looking confused, asks where the next Chaos Emerald is; Amy tells Sonic that they know there are 2 Emeralds, one in the Rocky Junkyard and the other In Frost Hill. Depending On the player's choice, they will do that one first.
In the Rocky Junkyard, Sonic, Knuckles and Tangle team up to find the Yellow Emerald and to destroy the mine in the Canyons which initially was a lush green area but was ruined by Eggman’s Hijinks During the war. Sonic goes to the Death Dome where Tails is being held (From Intel by Rouge) while Knuckles and Tangle go through the Mines to find the Emerald. Sonic goes to the Death Dome (Which is made from pieces from the Death Egg) and a auidance of Badniks and Animals are booing him, he also sees Tails in a Cage. Sonic asks to free him but is declined by the Platypus from the Neon City; the Platypus floats down with a mysterious stone on his hand and a blue-purple aura around Him. The Platypus introduces himself as Dr Starline, explaining himself as an avid admirer of Dr Robotnik, loving his work and schemes and longs to defeat Sonic for this by calling him an obsessive Fan-boy. Dr Starline being very angry at this decides to fight sonic.
Throughout the fight, Dr Starline uses his new Stone, the warp topaz and uses it to create a copy of Badniks and uses it to create portals he teleports with to trap Sonic. Luckily, Sonic barley manages winning, Starline admits that Sonic is A Formidable opponent's. Sonic Looking faltered but tries to hide, Sonic then asks if he can have his friend back. Starline gives him back, saying that his time is worthless as he will be planning something bog to wipe out the world. Starline then teleports away using his Warp Topaz. Sonic asks if Tails is okay, Tails says he is and says that they should focus on getting the Emeralds first. (If the player is playing this after Frost Hill then Tails will just say let’s go home) Meanwhile in the Mines, Tangle and Knuckles team up and go through the mines defeating the Robots and saving the slaves that appear there. Eventually they find the Yellow Chaos Emerald and Tangle and Knuckles fist bump.
In Frost Hill, Sonic, Tangle and Amy go to the Village to see it’s been destroyed; the Village Chief (A Walrus) says that a Blue Octopus destroyed the Village, searching for a Light Blue Chaos Emerald. Tangle Raises her tail in fear hearing a the Blue Octopus. Sonic asks is She is okay, Tangle Shrugs it off. Sonic, Tangle and Amy eventually an army of the Ice Villagers trying to Get the emerald. But they get ambushed by the Blue Octopus, Tangle seeing who it is tries to get the emerald From Mimic but fails and gets trapped by Mimic’s Powers. Sonic and Amy get the emerald but sees that Tangle is captured by Mimic, Sonic asks if they can Get her Back. Mimic laughing says only for a sizeable fee (imply he wants the Chaos Emerald) Tangle in her prison is doing a no Gesture. Mimic implies that he will Kill Tangle if he doesn't get the Emerald. Sonic thinks of a quick plan; he then acts like he gives the emerald only to throw it leading Amy to catch it and let Tangle out. It managed to work and Mimic is not very happy, Tangle being very angry tells sonic it was a mistake as Mimic has very Powerful abilities.
Throughout the Fight, Mimic uses his shapeshifting abilities and his Chaos beam shooting. Luckily, Sonic manages to beat Mimic due to his weakness of him needing to recharge his Powers from a Chaos Emerald or a Powerful source. Mimic using the last of his powers to Shape-shift into Tangle and uses her Tail to get the Emerald. Sonic dashes towards him and tries to homing attack him and manages to get the Emerald. Sonic looks at Tangle who is crying, and takes her to the docks of Frost Hill, in the Sunrise.
Sonic asks Tangle how she knows Mimic and she didn't want to give the emerald to him; Tangle explains that a few years ago, Her Parents were explorers and love to find things, they found a chaos emerald and we're going to give it to her, but then they were killed by Mimic and used the emerald to Absorb its Powers. Mimic used his Powers to destroy the Village, Tangle tried to stand up to him but Was nearly killed. Tangle explains If he gets a Chaos Emerald, he will have unlimited power. Tangle says after that she She will try to protect everyone she can and is the reason why she joined the Resistance. Sonic apologizes and says that they will take down Mimic and Neo Metal Sonic. Tangle hugs Sonic and go back to the Village to Report the news. The Ice Chief thanks the gang and gives them a Fish for gratitude.
After Sonic saves Tails and gets the 2 Chaos Emeralds. Amy tells the resistance that they have found a Chaos Emerald in a Festival and they also have intel that they will destroy the festival to make An Eggman parade. They arrive at the Festival and see that A few Eggman Robots Are Demolishing it for the Eggman Parade. Sonic, Tails and Amy go through the Festival, destroying the Badniks Along the way. Tangle with her star-studded eyes runs off towards the Concert. The crew eventually go to the Concert and see Rough and Tumble kidnapping the Main act (which is Crush 40) and Dr Starline DJING. Rough and Tumble sing terribly, while Flossing and Dabbing. Sonic sees Mr Tinker in the VIP area while hearing a Dubstep Remix of the Eggman Anthem (The Eggman Theme from Unleashed and Colours). Sonic realised what they are doing and decides to stop them Playing before Tinker Remembers He is Eggman.
Sonic stops them from playing the theme Before Tinker remembers he is Eggman. Dr Starline gets very angry at sonic and tells Rough and Tumble to Get the Egg MC. Sonic looks up and sees a Version of the Egg Golem but as a DJ and slightly altered. Amy decides to take out the Egg MC. Amy Manages to succeed makes Starline, Rough and Tumble flee away from the Festival. The Crowd cheers for Amy and continues the Concert. The Head of a Concert (A Blue Bird) thanks the Resistance and gives them a Red Chaos Emerald for a gift.
After going to Festival Night, they locate the final Emerald in The Ancient Paradise. Amy also notifies Sonic, Tails and Knuckles that Whisper is also there to find it on her own but may have underestimated the mission due the Ancient evil In The Beach. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles arrive at the Paradise and see that the villagers look distraught when they ask a few of the Villagers, they say that a Sea Monster ate a small wolf girl. Sonic and Tails scramble to find Whisper while Knuckles looks for the Green Emerald. The Duo go through the Beach, Jungle and Ruins to find Whisper. They then find her multi-wispon on the ground and find a giant sea Dragon. They her Whisper pleading for help, Sonic and Tails team up to defeat the Sea Dragon. They Manage to defeat the sea dragon and save Whisper. Whisper is crying from being eaten and seems traumatised; Tails asks what happened. Whisper explains that she wanted to find the last Chaos Emerald to help; Mimic sees she was getting the Emeralds and so shape-shifts into Cream the Rabbit as She was Nearby and lures her to the dragon and told Whisper that the Emerald is under the water; she then got eaten by the Dragon before seeing Mimic turn back to his usual self and taunts her.
Tails comforts Whisper While Sonic worries about Knuckles if he finds the Emerald, Sonic, Tails and Whisper hurry to find Knuckles. They find Knuckles Passed out in the Jungle and on the floor and see Mimic levitating already absorbing The Green Emerald. Sonic and Tails try to stop Mimic but fail and get paralysed by his abilities; Whisper nearly has a Panic attack From seeing Mimic. He then taunts Her and tells her she is a wimp and won’t do anything, telling her to run. Whisper uses her Multi-Wispon by using the Cube mode to trap him into a Cube and takes him away with the Hover Wisp. Eventually, Sonic and Tails gets unparalysed and thank Whisper for her heroics; she looks surprised and scared at first but warms Up to them. Knuckles eventually wakes up and seems very on edge; Sonic explains the situation to Knuckles; He Thanks Whisper For her help. Sonic picks up the Greyed out Emerald and says that it will be some time before it has its Positive power restored, they decide to go back to the HQ.
Gameplay
Sonic Recon is 3D third-person action Platformer video game akin to The Adventure Games. The player controls Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Tangle and Whisper in one big storyline each with their own gameplay. Depending on the zone, the minimum of mandatory Acts is 2 and the maximum is 6, although characters will be able to play optional acts in that zone with the other playable characters that are not playable in the zone. Between stages are Hub worlds which have NPC's that can be talked to, extra collectables and Entrance stages for Each Zone. There is also the Resistance HQ that can access the different Zones via a world map like Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Forces, Their extra missions, normal acts and Hub worlds. The Player can also access the customisable character option and the extras, (Music, Concept Art, Cutscenes and Hints). After completing an act you will rank from S-E, Ranks A, B, C, and D will reward you with a Emblem. a E rank while allow the player to go to the access part of the game but will not be reward them with a Emblem. Getting S Rank will give the player An extra emblem. Ranks will also reward EXP to upgrade Characters and Customisable options for the Playable Characters and Avatar Recon. Emblems do lock progression however like Medal collecting from the HD version of Sonic Unleashed.
Levels
- Radiant Hill: This level is the first level in the game and serves as the backdrop to most of the tutorials In the game. A Green Hill like area with a lot more water and multiple Villages. Act 1 is a Sonic stage, running through the area in broad daylight. Act 2 is a Amy Stage in the evening, transitioning to a hill like an area to a Town. Act 3 is a Knuckles Stage in the Night that is entirely in the Village part of Radiant Hill. The Zone’s Boss is Rough and Tumble, fought by Sonic and Knuckles
- Cliffside Forest: A Mountainous Forest area with gondolas around the mountains for better And safer transportation. Act 1 is a Sonic Stage at day, starting in the forest and ending In the mountains. Act 2 is a Tails stage in the evening completely set in the Mountainous area Of Cliffside Forest, and is a race against time level. Act 3 is a Whisper Stage in the Night and is completely set in the Forest area Of Cliffside Forest. The Zone’s Bosses are Shadow and Mimic
- Sky Egg: This Level takes place inside and outside of the Egg Carrier and is heavily based on Sky Deck and Hot shelter from Sonic Adventure, Act 1 is a Sonic Stage primarily set in the outside of Sky Egg and only Goes inside at the end Of the Act. Act 2 is a Tails Stage racing against sonic in the same stage but made a lot easier. Before the 2 Acts, there is a Tornado stage
- Radioactive Factory: Takes Place in a abandoned Eggman Base from the war that has tiny sparks of Energy to power the Badniks and Factory.
Character Specfic Gameplay
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog's gameplay is, for the most part, the same as that from the adventure games and normal Sonic games and involves High-speed gameplay and the more refined return of the parkour gameplay from Sonic Lost World. The fastest of the character roaster, Sonic can perform an Spin Dash to gain instant speed in seconds and use a Homing Attack to target an obstacle or enemy and attack them.
Sonic can also use new and returning abilities throughout the game by using EXP To upgrade Sonic. These abilities are the light-speed dash from Sonic Adventure 2 and Heroes, the Bounce from Sonic Adventure 2, the Rocket accel from Sonic Heroes and the Wall-jump From Sonic Unleashed. New abilities include the Drop-dash from Sonic Mania, A super-Bounce that can be Charged up and used like the Stomp from Sonic Generations. The Slide-dash, a new way to gain speed and to attack enemies by sliding and the Sonic Wind, a move by which that can be used for an air-dash or An offensive move.
Some sonic stages also include mach speed sections like Sonic 06 but are more boost based like Sonic Unleashed or Sonic Generations. In this, the player will press a Button of the corresponding console and will try to fill a boost meter to the fullest it can be, depending on how high it is the faster sonic will go, if it's empty or near empty, the player will lose a life.
Miles “Tails” Prower
Tails Gameplay is more akin to his Gameplay in Sonic Adventure and Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 than his gameplay from Sonic Adventure 2. Tails will either have two conditions for his stages. One is race against time to get to the checkpoint as Fast as possible. The other gameplay style is racing against an opponent, like Sonic, Dr Starline or Dr Eggman, like Sonic Adventure but a lot harder. Tails can also use few gadgets, A electronic arm cannon which can be used to shoot badniks; he can also charge the arm cannon when it's depleted and strafe while doing this. A Fake Ring Bomb, which When detonated, spreads fake rings that Hurt multiple Badniks and a Grapple ring which can be used to grapple onto different objects and surfaces.
Tails unlockable abilities are straight out Sonic Adventure, with his Rapid Tails attack, his ability to fly Faster and longer. However he can unlock 2 new abilities, A slower Spin-dash and a flight cancel.
Knuckles the Echidna
Knuckles gameplay is entirely new for the character, having more a beat-em-up and combat style of gameplay akin to the Werehog From Sonic Unleashed. However, Knuckles will still have series Staple abilities like Gliding and Digging. Knuckles will be able to use a multitude of combos that can be used throughout his levels, if the player button mashes, uses the same and basic combos, skipping most of the enemies that don't lock the stage and not getting enough rings or exp points, they will not get a rank higher than a D. However if they use more complex combos, using different Combos, fighting a good amount of enemies and collecting enough things, the player will obtain Higher Ranks. Knuckles upgrades are new fighting skills and different combos that he can use, like a spin move or a firey charge punch.
