Sonic Aero Riders is a planned project that maybe done after either Sonic World or Sonic Avatar if seperate from the MMORPG. The idea was mostly inspired from a dream of an Extreme Gear race course through a celtic ruin at a forest. However because this is not just an early project but one of many Sonic projects that are being planned, this one may not come to production.

The Sonic Riders games is a spin-off series from the Sonic games. They are racing games in which Sonic and his friends and rivals partake in racing on air-powered hoverboards known as Extreme Gear.

What is written here is liable to change over time due to planning as it won't be for a long while this this game begins production.

Plot[]

The plot takes place during the EX World Grand Prix which is hoasted by Accevive Corp. director Gale the Pidgeon on behalf of Dr. Eggman, both working together to find the babylonian treasure known as the "Element of the Wind" which is some sort of ancient Extreme Gear engine. As the name suggest, this treasure is assosiated with the wind as legends has it that the "rider" who had this artifact has complete mastery and control of the wind.

Music[]

Hyper Drive[]

"Not really the official theme song of the game since it's actually the theme from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's (though I much prefer Abridged than any Yu-Go-Oh series) I find the 5D theme more perfect for a game about racing on airboards than CARD GAME ON MOTORCYCLES so until I can compose an original theme, this one is just perfect for now."
Mystic Monkey sez

Gameplay[]

With a variety of ways to play the game, anyone can ride there fully customizable extreme gear by twisting, turning, and jumping in an exhilarating race to be first to cross the finish line. (However playing with a traditional gamepad is just as good and prefered).

Choosing from one of your favorite Sonic characters or you can race as your own character from Sonic Avatar, you can reach out and grab a variety of pickups along the course. By throwing, shaking, or swinging your arms to launch your items, you can gain the competitive edge over your rivals in high octane single or multiplayer races.

It is planned that the gameplay will be as precise as Sonic Riders as possible. That means Extreme Gear will be air powered but you can ride on other racers turbulence to restore air to your rider.

What will be additional from other Sonic Riders games will be Gear Change from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity and Gear Switch from Sonic Free Riders as well as the option to change gears in Extreme Gears. Extreme Gears will have the max of five gears.

Level Regular Goofy
1 Primary gear
2 Additional gear Additional gear
3 Additional gear Additional gear

All boards have default gears. New boards you unlocked or purchase will have gears set into them which you can change at the Garage, however you cannot change the boards Primary gear unless it is your own custom made board. Before racing, the Garage menu to set gears will show so that you can set gears for the board you will be riding. As you collect rings and level up your ride, two near gears will be accessable that you can switch from. Your Extreme Gear can level up twice so 4 additional gears can be accessed and they work in pairs simultaneously, you can switch from one set of gears to the other during play.

Multiplayer[]

The multiplayer will be up to 4 players with 12 players as online multiplayer. The game will also have "taunts" in which you can taunt your opponent by actually speaking, that is if yoour computer has a microphone.

Controls[]

WIP

The game can be played by compatable gamepad as they would when playing the first Sonic Riders game. It has not been decided if the game can also be played by webcam which will record your motions so that you can play, pretending to actually ride your Extreme Gear, this will be simular control to the Kinect for the Xbox 360 so that the player can play the game as they can on the upcomming Sonic Riders game Sonic Free Riders. This webcam control however maybe dropped from the final production. The game can also be played without either gamepad or webcam, steering and controls can all be done by mouse with simple controls.

Depending on how common the scroll-wheel mice are, the game can be controlled purely with just the mouse alone without the need of the keyboard.

Buttons Function
Mouse movement Steering (Left-Right) / Break (Down)
Right mouse button Jump/Grind
Scroll wheel Gear Change
Left mouse button Use item
Mouse movement + Middle mouse button (hold) Arms
↑ key Boost
→ / ← key Cornering
↓ key Break

Traditional Sonic Riders controls with additional functions for "Item use". Gear changing done with Y and X like from Sonic Heroes.

See Sega? Is this so much to ask? Can SFR have this as a mod at least?

Buttons Xbox 360 Controller Function
1 A Jump/Grind
2 B Gear Change
3 X Boost
4 Y Cornering
5 LB
6 RB Use item
7 BACK
8 START Pause
9 Left Analogue Stick (pressed)
10 Right Analogue Stick (pressed)
X Axis/Y Axis Left Analogue Stick Steering (Left-Right) / Break (Down) / QTE
z Axis LT, RT Side-shift
X Rotation/Y Rotation Right Analogue Stick Arms / Crouching / QTE
Point of View Hat D-pad Side views, reverse view

Working simular to the use of the Kinect for Sonic Free Riders, with the use of a webcam you can "pretend" to ride Extreme Gear and use body movement to control the game. However the webcam feature may not be utilized.

For keyboard, while cornering is usually done with the one button along with the directions, having two cornering buttons is to make use of simple arrow controls as well as not be too confusing.

Like Sonic Free Riders you can switch among installed gears. However like Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity you can have up to 3 gears. A primary gear already installed into the Extreme Gear to begin with and you can add 2 additional gears you can access. To switch gears would be simular to Sonic Heroes where you can switch leader in your teams of three.

Defending and Attacking[]

Like Sonic Riders, you're able to defend yourself with a small tornado, which will cost air. However, if you're close to opponent racers you can instead attack them. This will grant you an additional boost while the victim will loose rings and speed. However they will be able to defend themselves from oncoming attacks.

Garage[]

Rough idea

A very rough picture on what the Extreme Gears will look like in the game. Besides the "boards", "frame" and the "gears" that grant speed and abilities, the EX will also have "engines" which hold the primary gears of the boards. Yellow for flight mode, blue for grind mode and red for bike mode.

It is at the Garage you can check your gallery of Extreme Gear you have collected and made so far as well as set the games options.

In this game the player can create custom made Extreme Gear in the "Garage". These Extreme Gears can be designed from the various parts of Extreme Gear in the gallery and be altered, coloured, named and have gears set. Once the player creates a custom extreme gear, he or she can name them, describe them and be used by any character. The cusom Extreme Gear can level up by racing with them.

Depending on what you make your ride with can alter the kind of gears the vehicle you have access to, stances can change what you can do on your bored or it's abilities.

The Garage will also have a shop for your Sonic Avatar to buy sport clothing for your avatar.

While to set boards to exclusive characters won't be an option, it is from Garage it will be possible to introduce your very own Sonic fan character to the EX World Grand Prix with its own Extreme Gear and style for the occasion.

Courses[]

So far a course inspired by said dream is planned. The course will look like it's from the Legend of Zelda. Other courses planned are selected Sonic R courses but modernised for extreme gear.

Another course (which as well been inspired by a recent dream) which takes place at Monopole. These courses run through the lower level of the city and under it as well through subways and pipelines.

Characters[]

So far the heroes and the Babylon Rogues are the only teams that are in the story. If Amy and Cream or Shadow and Rouge will also be included (with Power class members) it's uncertain.

Speed Fly Power
Team Sonic Sonic the Hedgehog Miles "Tails" Prower Knuckles the Echidna
Babylon Rogues Jet the Hawk Wave the Swallow Storm the Albatross

As traditional with the Sonic Riders series, Class types play a role for Extreme Gear such as what boards and gears racers can use. Sonic Avatar characters will also be playable, the kind of boards they will ride depends on the class selected for them.
