Last Story

The story continues from the Dark Story where the cannon screen is flashing frantically. Eggman wonders why the Eclipse Cannon isn't firing, but then the screen changes to his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, tied to a chair in a jail cell.

From the Hero Story, Sonic, who had already destroyed the Eclipse Cannon with the fake Chaos Emerald, wonders what is going on with the ARK's condition. Shadow, who is struggling to get up after being defeated by the blue hedgehog earlier, explains to him that the fake Emerald may have destroyed the Eclipse Cannon, but humanity will soon face their judgement day because with all of the 7 Chaos Emeralds intact, the ARK is going to crash towards earth, destroying it in the process. Delighted that the plan is completed, Shadow walks away. Sonic then goes to find Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.

At the research room, Knuckles finds Tails and Amy. Tails was confident that Sonic has destroyed the Eclipse Cannon with the fake Emerald. Before he could say anything else, the three feel a strong vibration from the ARK. Rouge comes out of the blue; Knuckles becomes annoyed, thinking that the bat hasn't given up hunting for the Master Emerald shards, but there was no time for that. She informs them that they are all doomed because the Space Colony ARK is heading towards Earth at a tremendous velocity.

On televisions everywhere, including the ARK, Gerald Robotnik is tied to a seat, explaining how the ARK will crash into Earth and destroy it along with the humans, with the power of all seven Chaos Emeralds. The people, Cream, Vanilla, Cheese, and Big are horrified and saddened.

Eggman, Orbot, and Cubot come in the research room and Knuckles accuses the egg-shaped scientist of being the one behind all of this. Eggman denies this. Then Sonic arrives to the research room, Tails and Amy are happy to see him alive, but Eggman was disgusted and berates him for surviving the capsule explosion. Sonic sneers at Eggman's frustration and then says that there's no time for fighting because they have a bigger problem. Eggman gives Rouge his grandfather's diary and Rouge reads it out loud, revealing that the professor went insane after his granddaughter Maria was killed. When the Space Colony ARK was shut down, Maria was killed in the process. Gerald went insane because he loved Maria so much, and was devastated that his own research lead to her death. He wanted revenge on all humanity, so he created the Eclipse Cannon and when having enough power 7 Chaos Emeralds, would be programmed to make ARK fall to Earth. It is revealed that Gerald made Shadow to benefit mankind, but Space Colony ARK was destroyed and so was project Ultimate Life Form A.K.A. Shadow. He was able to complete his research and finish Shadow and he says that "you may awaken it if you wish to fill the world with destruction.".

Eggman tells them that the energy of the Chaos Emeralds is what causes the Space Colony ARK to crash with Earth. They then have a plan to stop the Chaos Emeralds; Rouge came up with an idea to use the Master Emerald since Knuckles earlier said it can neutralize their power. Eggman then states that time is running out and they must pull together. Sonic and the others ask Eggman why they should trust him. He replies to them that he can't conquer the world if it's destroyed, so he has no choice but to team up with his worst enemies. Putting aside their differences, the Hero and Dark characters (minus Shadow) head to the Cannon's Core. As Amy goes to follow everyone, she stops and notices Shadow at a distance, looking outisde.

Adventure Field: Space Colony ARK (Sonic)

(Go the room leading to the central control room which will directly lead you to Cannon's Core.)

Final Stage: Cannon's Core (Tails, Eggman, Rouge, Knuckles, Sonic)

While the others are at the Cannon's Core, Amy goes to talk with Shadow and pleads her to help Sonic and the others to save the world. Shadow refuses, declaring that it's all going according to plan and that humanity will finally face their demise for what they've done to Maria. Amy makes a rebuttal that while there are some evil people in the world, there are some that are good and continues to plead Shadow in saving them. This causes Shadow to have a flashback where Maria, in her dying words, telling Shadow to give humanity a chance to be happy. With a tear in his eye, Shadow realize Maria's true request and takes off to the Cannon's Core.

Adventure Field: Space Colony ARK (Shadow)

(Optional: Talk to Amy and she will tell you that she's counting on you to help save the world with Sonic and the others. Then head to the room where the central control room was at.)

Sonic and Knuckles are seen at a shrine that looks somewhat like the Emerald shrine of Angel Island. When they try to get closer to the shrine to stop the Chaos Emeralds with the Master Emerald, Gerald's voice is heard again and the Biolizard is awakened. Shadow appears and explains the two that this is the Prototype of the Ultimate Life Form. He tells Sonic and Knuckles to head to the shrine while he battles the Biolizard.

Boss: Biolizard (Shadow)

Sonic and Knuckles arrive to the shrine. Knuckles places the Master Emerald on the middle of the shrine and recites Tikal's prayer to negate the power of the Chaos Emeralds. The Biolizard disappears, but the ARK is still crashing down. Eggman informs the three that the Biolizard is still alive as it used Chaos Control to teleport and fuse together with Space Colony ARK to become the Finalhazard and is keeping it on its crash course to Earth.

With the Space Colony ARK no longer being powered by the Chaos Emeralds, but now by the Finalhazard, Sonic and Shadow use the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic and Super Shadow, respectively.

The world news report of the ARK falling down and that two lights are surrounding it. They learn that two golden stars are surrounding the ARK's surface. Those two stars are none other than Super Sonic and Super Shadow. Everyone in the world now realize that there is hope for the world to be saved.

Final Boss: Finalhazard (Super Sonic and Super Shadow)

The superpowered hedgehogs defeat the Finalhazard in outer space. What's left is the falling ARK. With the two trying to stop it and the others inside the ARK (even Eggman) cheering them on, Maria's voice rings in Shadow's head again about giving people a chance to be happy. Both Sonic and Shadow (removing his inhibitor rings) used a super-powered Chaos Control to warp the crashing space colony ARK back to its normal place saving the earth. The people on earth as well as Big, Cream, Cheese, and Vanilla cheer as the ARK was stopped. Even the G.U.N. personnel watching from their headquarters were relieved.

Shadow's power is drained, and realizes that he has fulfilled Maria's request. Sonic tries to help Shadow from falling, but Shadow declines the offer declaring that he's accomplished his mission and says goodbye to his rival-turned-ally. Hesitantly, Sonic bids farewell in return. In a vanishing light, Shadow falls to earth, and Sonic is holding Shadow's inhibitor rings.

Adventure Field: Space Colony ARK (Sonic)

(Go to the capsule room where all the characters are present. Note that there will be no music playing in the Adventure Field due to Shadow's sacrifice.)

Sonic returns to the ARK's research room alone where Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Eggman, Orbot, and Cubot were waiting. Rouge asks him what happened to Shadow. Sonic's answer was silent and sorrowful and shows Shadow's inhibitor rings. He gives them to Rouge and comments that Shadow was a hero who sacrificed himself to save the planet.

Eggman discusses to Tails about Gerald Robotnik, saying that he looked up to him as a child, and was shocked that he would destroy the world. Tails brightly says that what matters is that they saved the world. Walking out of the room with Orbot and Cubot, Eggman declares that he will return to earth and plot his next plan to conquer the world and tells Sonic to get ready for his next attack when they meet again. Sonic wasn't listening, however.

Knuckles asks Rouge what's next for her. Rouge replies that she's not thinking of jewels for awhile and is thinking of something better than jewels (she is implying her feelings for Knuckles, but she won't admit it). To Knuckles' surprise, Rouge thanks him for saving his life earlier at Meteor Herd. Knuckles points out how it was unlike of her to express gratitude like she didn't do earlier, but was nonetheless impressed with her, albeit slight, change in attitude.

Sonic is still mourning over Shadow. Amy goes over to asks what is wrong. Sonic says it was nothing and says that it's time to return to earth. As they all do so, Sonic quietly bids his final farewell to Shadow the Hedgehog in the same manner as Maria.

We are later taken to an extra cutscene showing each characters returning home. First, Tails returns to his Workshop. Secondly, Rouge is at Central City gazing at a jewel held inside a jewelry store, stating that she hasn't fully given up her desire of stealing the world's famous jewels. Then, Knuckles returns to Angel Island with the Master Emerald intact, making the island float once again. Then, Amy is relaxing at a beach at Central City thinking about her adventure aboard the Space Colony ARK as well as wondering where Sonic is, but then realizes that he's running around somewhere. At the Egg Carrier, Eggman is talking to an unknown (and unseen) individual who asks for his help to acquire an ancient power, which gains interest of the doctor. Lastly, the cutscene ends with Sonic resting at the same beach beside forest where he was arrested in the beginning of the Hero Story; he watches the dark skies and an image of Shadow is displayed on the sky while these words display on the screen:

A new day brings a new adventure. But for now... rest easy heroes.
