— Sly
Sly the Chameleon is an antihero in MewtwoLucario's The Legend of Ashura series. He is a 17-year-old, anthropomorphic chameleon, who is a master thief and the Speed member and leader of the Chameleon Crew.
Appearance
Sly is a grey chameleon with brown eyes, a purple horn, and a black-striped tail similar to a raccoon's. He wears a black mask, a purplish-blue and gold shirt, and a red leg pouch. Completing his outfit are a pair of white gloves, dark purple shoes with black gaiters, and studded wrist and ankle bands with gold bolts and white bandages.
Powers and Abilities
Since he's a chameleon, Sly can turn invisible and stick to walls and ceilings, as well as use his long tongue as a grappling hook. As a Speed type, he's rather fast and agile, being able to do things such as walk on ropes or rails and land on small points. Sly is very skilled at using his choice weapon: the Mystery Cane, named for it's shape similar to a question mark. He can use it to fight, as well as swing on things and pull stuff towards him. (Or pull himself up, as long as he's got a hook or something to pull himself up by.) Sly uses several different gadgets and pieces of equipment in his thieving, such as his para-glider and small mines disguised as soda cans.
History
Concept and Creation
No series is good without antiheroes, so MewtwoLucario knew The Legend of Ashura needed a team of them. At that time she was watching walkthroughs of the Sly Cooper series, and was totally hooked on it. She wanted the antiheroes to be master thieves, and noticed how sneaky Espio the Chameleon was. MewtwoLucario decided to make the antiheroes chameleons, and their team would be called "the Chameleon Crew". The leader would be called Sly the Chameleon, and look identical to Sly Cooper.
Early Life
Sly was born from a long line of master thieves: the Bandithorns. In fact, thieving is the family business. Each member of the Bandithorns recorded their thieving skills in a book: the Thievius Chameleonus. Anyone who read it learnt how to be super sneaky, and used their thieving skills to specialize in stealing from criminals. (After all, there's no challenge, no honor, and no FUN in stealing from normal people.) On the day when Sly was going to inherit the Thievius Chameleonus, his parents mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind the book and the Mystery Cane (which had previously belonged to Sly's father). Without anyone to look after him, Sly was sent to live in an orphanage.

Other Appearances
Sonic X
Sly mirrors his role in Sonic X as a master thief, as well as being the Speed type and leader of the Chameleon Crew. However, the Mystery Cane is never referred to as such, and he seems to be a lot more cautious about his safety than in The Legend of Ashura. Sly always prefers to run than face the enemy head-on in Sonic X, and his backstory has been altered a little: instead of going to an orphanage after his parents disappeared, he spent his time growing up in the forest.
