The Skeleton Moon is the Earth's only natural satellite in the Cybermania universe. Before the Invasion, the Moon was a silver-colored spherical satellite that dominated the Earth's night sky. It was the site of numerous exploration missions in the 1950s through the '70s. However, when the Korghan Empire invaded, they used the Moon as a weapon of mass destruction against their Earthling enemies. To demonstrate their power, they fired an orbital cannon on the Moon, destroying most of the satellite. This event became known as "The Fall of the Moon." The resulting destruction activated fragments of the Moon, turning them into selenium as they rained down on Earth's surface. Thousands of fragments crashed into cities, destroying much of the Earth's infrastructure and causing innumerable casualties.
What was left of the Moon became known as "the Skeleton." Now surrounded by a ring system of glowing blue selenium, the explosion exposed the satellite's radiant core, giving Earth's nights a bright, azure hue. Since then, the Skeleton Moon has been the site of an ambitious mining mission, mainly operated by the world's largest corporations, to power their cities with cleaner energy. A moonbase to further automate the missions is in development by the main events of the visual novel.
Scientists have theorized that the Skeleton Moon's destabilizing orbit, as a result of the cannon, may have been causing the increase in mysterious natural disasters in coastal cities like San Rosario, but not enough evidence had been made to confirm this.
