Roleplay:The Last Ultimate Lifeform

Our heroes must prepare themselves for a threat unlike one they've ever faced before. Umbra the Hedgehog, a mysterious and quite insane figure with ties to the Ultimate Lifeform Family, begins hunting the aforementioned Chaos users down one by one. Who will survive? Who will die? And who will be the last Ultimate Lifeform standing? Let's find out, hm?

Roleplay

Part One

(Shima and Hali are sitting on a hill, a blanket laid out underneath them with an assortment of food around them. The dark night sky is filled with stars above them)

Shima: (smiles) This nighttime picnic was a good idea, Hali.

Hali: (giggles) Thanks. We haven't gotten to spend a lot of time together, lately. 

Shima: Yeah. (looks up at the stars while sipping her drink)

[A shooting star streaks across the sky...]

Hali: Wow! Did you see that?

Shima: Yeah!

Hali: Quick, make a wish!

(The two sisters close their eyes for a few moments, then reopen them)

Shima: What did you wish for?

Hali: (grins and wags a finger) Ah-ah-ah! You never tell someone what you wished for, otherwise it'll never come true!

[The "star" doesn't disappear, however, like a normal shooting star would; it hurtles downwards past them, crashing into the ground a few meters away.]

Shima and Hali: !! (they duck as the "star" zooms over their heads and crashes to the ground)

Hali: I-I never thought a star would almost hit me..

Shima: Yeah..

[They get up and start moving towards the "star". Suddenly, the water in Shima's drink begins to shake...]

Shima: ....? (stops and looks at her drink) What the..?

Hali: (continues moving towards the star)

[Then, a large Chaos Blast explodes out from the object, knocking back Shima and sending Hali flying!]

Shima: (lands hard on her back, her drink spilling out over the floor) Ahagh!!

Hali: Waaah! (lands on the ground, tumbling back onto their picnic area)

[A lone figure is sihlouetted against the smoke from the wreckage; it appears to be Shadow at first...]

Shima: Ngh... (sits up, wincing in pain) Sh...Shadow? What...?

???: No. Not Shadow. [He waves away the smoke, revealing his gold-coloured streaks, more unruly quills, and misshapen-looking arm.] 

Shima: (her eyes widen before quickly narrowing) Then who are you?

???: [smiles maliciously] You can call me... Umbra. And I know perfectly well who YOU are, Shima.

Shima: (her eyes widen) You...know me? (manages to get to her feet) How-

Hali: Shima! (runs up to her, pieces of smushed food and spilled drink in her hair and on her clothes)

Shima: Stay back, Hali!

Hali: (comes to a stop)

Umbra: [looks over at Hali] Oh, and you too! Perfect! It's two for the price of one! My lucky day! [without warning, he fires a large beam of Chaos Energy at Shima]

Shima: !! (jumps out of the way at the last minute, standing protectively in front of Hali) Who are you? Are you worling for G.U.N.?! We haven't done anything wrong!

Umbra: [laughs maniacally] Oh, that's PRECIOUS! [mimics her] "We haven't done anything wrong"! [his laugh turns into an angry snarl] You've done EVERYTHING WRONG! Your EXISTENCE is WRONG! [rushes at them]

Shima: Go, Hali! I'll hold him off! (charges at Umbra)

Hali: (starts running from the battle)

Shima: I don't know who you are, but you won't touch my sister! (fires a Chaos beam at Umbra)

Umbra: [lifts his odd arm to "catch" the beam, absorbing it] Oh, come on. Did they really make you this inferior? I remember the real you as being so much stronger. 

Shima: !! (skids to a stop) What do you mean, the "real" me? (looks back to see that if Hali is gone)

[As she turns, Umbra lands a super-powerful punch in her stomach with his odd arm.]

Umbra: What do you think I mean, you moronic child? [absentmindedly flicks the crystal in her choker]

Shima: (gasps loudly as all the air is knocked out of her; gapsing for air) H....How do you...know?

Umbra: I told you I know everything about you. I was there... [chuckles, and kicks her to the ground]

Shima: Ahck! (lands on her back; breathing heavily) I don't....remember you... (struggles to get up) (thinking) Why...Why am I so weak compared to him...?!

Umbra: I'm hurt. I thought you'd remember your brother. The one who's life you destroyed. [He punctuates every emphasised word with a kick] 

Shima: (cries out in pain at each kick and holds her stomach) I-I'm sorry...Whatever I did I'm sorry..! (spits out some blood) (thinking) I..I don't remember him.....

Umbra: Hmph. I don't care how sorry you are. You ruined me. So I'm going to ruin you all. I'll show them all how much better I AM! [kicks her again and steps back] But... Maybe I'll leave you to later. Yes, you'll be my piece de resistance. So if not you, then... ah-ha... [looks off in the direction Hali ran off in]

Shima: (suddenly becomes enraged) Don't you dare touch her!! (gasps in pain and courls into a ball, holding her stomach and ribs) Please...leave her alone..!

Umbra: [laughs as he disappears]

[Meanwhile, with Hali...}

Hali: (pants as she runs through the woods that was surrounding the hill) Please be safe, Shima..!

[Rapidly, Umbra steps out from behind a tree and clotheslines Hali, sending her sprawling.]

Hali: Oof! (falls on her back)

Umbra: What are you thinking, running around in the woods at night? Didn't your mother ever warn you about... dangerous people...?

Hali: Ugh....Y-You..! Wh-What did you do to Shima...?!

Umbra: Suffice to say she won't be troubling us for some time. We can have a little family bonding time! Won't that be fun? [on the last word, he drops his face dangerously close to Hali's]

Hali: ! (gulps and whimpers) Wh-Who are you..? (tries to scoot away) 

Umbra: [grabs her by the neck with his strong arm and effortlessly picks her up] Well now, THAT'S a question in itself, isn't it? Lots of answers, yes... Let's go with "your older brother" for a start. 

Hali: O-Older brother...?! (pulls at his fingers)

Umbra: Precisely. Other applicable answers include "your worst nightmare", "better than you" and "the only 'Ultimate Lifeform' PERMITTED to exist!" [tightens his grip]

Hali: (coughs and whimpers) Wh-What do you want..?! 

Umbra: [growls] Didn't you HEAR ME? [throws Hali into another tree] Are you STUPID?! [Grabs her by the collar and throws her to the ground] Why did they ever think that you and all these other imbeciles are BETTER THAN ME?! [grabs her by the neck again] Hh... [slowly] I'm going to kill you. And every other ridiculous impostor who thinks they can throw the t- MY title around like a triviality.

Hali: (starts to cry softly) P-Please..stop...!

Umbra: [brings her closer, speaking in an almost compassionate voice] ...I can't...

Hali: (cries; looks into his eyes) Wh-Why..?

Umbra: ... [looks away, slackens his grip a little] ...you're coming with me now. Chaos Control... [the two vanish in a burst of light]

(Back with Shima)

Shima: (curled in a ball holding her stomach and ribs) H-Hali... (reaches into her pocket weakly, pulling out a cellphone) Gotta...call someone... (opens her phone and presses a button on speed-dial) Statyx...please pick up...

???: *from behind Shima* You called?

Shima: ! (groans and looks up at Statyx) S-Statyx..! (grins a bit, showing blood-caked teeth, then whimpers a bit in pain) Hali...

Statyx: *his eyes widen as he sees the state Shima is in* Who did this to you? And what about Hali!?

Shima: (grimaces and pulls herself up into a sitting position) Someone named....Umbra... H-He..attacked us... and he went after her... (hangs head) I-I couldn't stop him..

Statyx: Do you know where he went?

Shima: (staggers to her feet and points down the hill) That way....the same way that Hali went...!

Statyx: Okay, okay... can you walk or move?

Shima: I-I think so... 

Statyx: Alright, let's go. *holds her up a bit and takes her towards the hill*

[Meanwhile, in an undisclosed location... Umbra and Hali reappear.]

Hali: (crying softly; looks around) Wh-Where are we..?

Umbra: Just a little place I cobbled together from one of that idiot descendant of Robotnik's bases.

Hali: (sniffs) O-Oh....

Umbra: ... [sets her down roughly (though not as roughly as Hali expected)] It's not home, but it'll do until I'm done.

Hali: (hugs herself) Wh-What do you plan to do with me? (thinking) Why is he being...a little less rough now...? 

Umbra: Quite simply put I plan to kill you. And then everyone else who calls themself an "Ultimate Lifeform". And then? Then who knows? I don't. Maybe I used to.

Hali: (whimpers and bites her lip, holding back tears)

Umbra: ... [growls, and whirls, punching a hole in the solid metal wall beside Hali's head] WHY ARE YOU CRYING?! YOU don't get that RIGHT!! You and HER and all the others RUINED ME!

Hali: (yelps; sniffles) I-I'm sorry..! I...I don't know what you mean...I don't remember you... (braces herself)

Umbra: [smiles] I'm not surprised. They didn't tell you about me, they wouldn't've. I'm just the prototype. The failure. Once they'd ironed out the kinks they didn't fix me; no, they just scrapped me and made a better model. Left me to rot.

Hali: I-I'm sorry... (starts scooting sideways away from him) That wasn't right of them... B-But it's not me or Shima's fault..!

Umbra: [glares at her] It's ALL YOUR FAULT! It's your fault for even being created! Your fault for getting out of that godforsaked prison without me! It's your fault for being so goddamn perfect! [slumps back in a chair]

Hali: (stops) ...Perfect? You think I'm perfect? (clasps her choker on her fist) .....You're not the one that's dying like me...You're not the one with demon blood running through her veins like Shima...We're not perfect.

Umbra: At least you can actually use your Chaos without blowing your own arm off. [he rubs his odd arm]

Hali: (hesitates, then goes over to him) Is...that what happened to your arm..?

Umbra: I told you, I'm a prototype. They hadn't tried Chaos infusion on a living subject before. My Chaos energy is so unstable that the first time I tried to use it everything below this shoulder ruptured like a water balloon. So they made me this replacement out of spare parts from their last failure.

Hali: O-Oh...I'm sorry to hear that...

Umbra: Hmph. Of course you are. You seem suspiciously calm for someone who knows they're going to die soon.

Hali: (she smiles a small, sad smile) It's just how I am... I know I'm dying, I guess dying a little earlier than I thought won't make much of a difference...

Umbra: [laughs] Oh, you don't get to die without my permission.

Hali: (gulps and backs away a bit)

Umbra: [laughs harder] That's just ironic... I come all this way to kill you and find out you're already dying! [doubles over with laughter]

Hali: (she stops and glares at Umbra) I'm sorry that you made your trip partly for nothing.

Umbra: [laughing maniaclly, but the laughter seamlessly becomes an angry growl, then a scream of rage as he whirls around the room in a dervish of anger, wrecking everything]

Hali: ! (screams and covers her head and ears, cowering away from him)

Umbra: I will NOT be DENIED my VENGEANCE! [ripping holes in the solid metal walls and throwing computers around like softballs] NOT NOW!

Hali: (whimpering in a corner; shaking)

Umbra: [panting, stands in the middle of the wreckage, looking around] And just when I had all this set up... tsk, tsk... [absentmindedly goes about cleaning up]

Hali: (stands there, fidgeting) (thinking) ...Why hasn't he killed me yet? (watches Umbra)

Umbra: [looks over at her] Something on your mind?

Hali: (flinches away) Oh...uh, no..

Umbra: Are you sure? You can tell me anything, you know: We are family. [chuckles]

Hali: (gulps) I was just....wondering why you hadn't killed me yet...even though I am dying..that's all.

Umbra: Understandable. Rest assured, I am going to kill you, and the rest of them. I just have... plans regarding the exact details. Which reminds me... I still have the others to deal with...

Hali: (gulps) P-Please don't...

Umbra: Hm? Why bother speaking up about it now when I've been detailing my plans about it for the last several minutes? Seems quite curious... [leans in a little closer with the last word, placing his hand slowly and deliberately on the wall next to Hali's head]

Hali: (backs up against the wall) I don't know...just anything to maybe make you change your mind..

Umbra: [chuckles, then leans in very close and speaks in a soft voice] I have had decades to plan this. Do you really think any argument you have could possibly discourage me?

Hali: (whimpers) M-Maybe....

Umbra: [laughs] No. Anyway. I really must be going. Don't you worry; I'll be back soon enough with more siblings for you to converse with in my absences. Also, try and leave and I will know about it. Just because I don't want to kill you just yet doesn't mean I can't make the rest of your life extremely painful. [Chaos Controls away]

Hali: (sinks to the floor and hugs herself) No..

[Meanwhile, back with Statyx and Shima...]

Shima: Thanks... (leans against him lightly and walks towards the hill)

[A dark, angry voice resonates through the air]

Umbra: And WHERE do you think YOU'RE going...?

Shima: (freezes in her spot; growls)

Statyx: *stops as well, not looking in Umbra's direction* That depends; do you know where Hali is?

[Umbra appears in a flash of Chaos Energy, scorching the ground.]

Umbra: Of course I do. You think I'd put her somewhere if I DIDN'T know she'd be there? Your logic is as bad as hers! [laughs]

Statyx: Okay then. Shima, can you stand on your own?

Shima: Yes... (growls)
