Past

Capture and "Recruitment"

Cream was captured by the Eggman Empire during their invasion of Sunset City, along with her mother and aunt who were visiting the city with her at the time. Like the Eggman Empire's other prisoners, Cream and her family were taken to the Death Egg, being held in its dungeons. From there, there was nothing they could do other than wait to be tortured by Eggman (much like with the other prisoners there). When Cream and her family's turn finally came though, Eggman instead saw an opportunity with Cream alone; Eggman remembered how much of a threat Cream was to his operations beforehand (during the events of previous games) and he wanted to take advantage of all of that, noting that her age made her naturally mailable. Beyond that though, Eggman realized that he could also use his plans for Cream to psychologically torture Cream's family, along Sonic and his other friends (hoping that they would see the results of his work with Cream in the future, as they were not captured as well at the time), rather than wasting more resources to torture them normally... With all of that in mind, he took Cream from her family and began brainwashing the kid... When that was done, Eggman submitted her into the Robotomy process, a form of roboticization that was fairly new in Eggman's arsenal at the time, which fitted her body into a metallic shell... When the entire process was finished, Eggman would show-off Robotomized Cream to her family and Sonic, all of whom were horrified and deeply saddened by the sight of what Cream had become... Sonic and Berri did their best to not succumb to their sorrow (to try and set a powerful example to the other prisoners), but Vanilla quickly fell into a powerful depression that she wouldn't overcome for a while... Eventually though, the Resistance and Spectrum The Hedgehog mounted a rescue mission for Sonic and stormed the Death Egg, freeing Sonic and taking as many other prisoners as they could with them; Berri and Vanilla were among those to be rescued, but they were adamite about trying to rescue Cream too, which was not possible for the Resistance to do at the time...

Servitude to Eggman/Rescued by Team Spectrum

From then on, Eggman would utilize Robotomized Cream for a large remainder of the war, sending her on missions to fight the Resistance alongside the likes of Infinite and his Phantom Ruby copies, as well as to "recruit" the masses... During such missions, she would encounter Sonic, Spectrum, and Berri multiple times; each instance, her former friends would fight only out of self-defense, attempting to reason with and break through to her... Of course, none of their attempts would work, as Cream's mind was locked deep within her own subconscious; Robotomized Cream was an entirely separate personality, and she had no patience for those that Eggman deemed to be his enemies...

Shortly after Team Spectrum was formed (with Berri notably joining), the new group would devise a plan to capture Robotomized Cream and bring her back to the Resistance to be revived back into Cream, with this being enacted during the Second Battle of Metropolis; while the rest of the Resistance focused on capturing Eggman, Team Spectrum went directly after Robotomized Cream and attempted to bring her in. A battle between her and Team Spectrum (inevitably) broke out, with Team Spectrum eventually becoming the victors and putting Robotomized Cream out of commission for the time being. Afterwards, Spectrum had to leave to support Sonic (as he had found Eggman), so Berri was left in charge of Team Spectrum as she led them with the incapacitated Robotomized Cream back to the Resistance's base. After the second Battle of Metropolis concluded, the Resistance and Team Spectrum returned to HQ, where Tails would immediately begin working on Robotomized Cream; while he and Classic Sonic were infiltrating Eggman's computer network at Chemical Plant, Tails had discovered Eggman's notes about the Robotomy process, and Tails had been using that information to work on a way to reverse Cream's condition. Tails' treatments would indeed work, and Cream's body and mind were finally (and thankfully) revived. After she would wake up, Berri would be the first person to greet her, and she would soon see her mother Vanilla again afterwards (with her very presence quickly bringing her out of her depression). From there, Cream would remain with her mother at Resistance HQ during the following final battle, leave with her for their home after the war had finally ended afterwards.
