The Roboticizer is an object that appears in the AngieYaz/RoseOfSharon reboot of the Sonic Underground television series. It is a device utilized by Dr. Robotnik and his empire to create robotic slaves from the citizens of Mobius via the process of roboticization.

Description

A Roboticizer is a machine that is used to roboticize living organisms. Various Roboticizers have appeared, but each of them share some common elements. The classic Roboticizer usually consists of a round platform which has lights from lamps on the ceiling that are directed at it and a projector device above it. Such a Roboticizer may also have transparent capsules that a person that is to be subjugated to roboticization is to be locked inside. If the Roboticizer is not using a capsule, a chair with straps or an operating table with straps may be used instead. In other cases, the Roboticizer devices just consist of an empty plaform. The Roboticizer is operated by a console, which is usually located near its platform.

The origin of the Roboticizer is unknown, although it is implied to have been invented by Dr. Robotnik. Following his successful takeover of Mobius, Dr. Robotnik used the Roboticizer to transform the majority of the lower-class citizens into mindless robotic slaves loyal only to him.

Over the next many years, Robotnik would use the Roboticizer to punish any Freedom Fighter he could catch (and threaten his lackeys). Essentially, this was execution and slavery mixed into one.

Ifyoucan managed to retain his free will during the roboticization process due to a malfunction in the device, but nevertheless had been biologically mechanized.

When Sleet stole the Chaos Emerald from Robotnik's Fortress of Altitude and accidentally let Dingo shatter it, he went back to Robotropolis in an attempt to ask the scientist for help. Robotnik attempted to have Sleet roboticized twice for his betrayal, only sparing him at the offer to locate Dingo and the broken Emerald. Later, when Robotnik attempted to roboticize Sonia the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna knocked a Swatbot into the machine instead, which caused a overload in the system, as Robotnik noted that one cannot roboticize a robot.

After Sonic was crowned King of Mobius, one of his first acts was to order the complete decommissioning of all the Roboticizers (after first deroboticizing every victim). However, Simone Robotnik managed to reactivate them for a time.

The roboticization process

Physically speaking, the process of roboticization converts living tissue into machinery: body parts are transformed into mechanical equivalents. Due to the transformation, roboticized subjects typically possess increased strength and other abilities. In most cases, roboticization is only carried out on some parts of the body, making the subjects resemble cyborgs, although there are exceptions where the body will be fully converted. The effects of roboticization are reversable, however, using a proper deroboticizer.

Roboticized subjects typically lose their free will as a result of roboticization, becoming almost mindless automatons. While the subjects' memories of their former self remain, they are stored separately from their post-roboticized self, like a computer program, and cannot be accessed unless the Crystal Brooches are used. However, there have been cases in which roboticized subjects' mental capabilities were restored while the bodies remained robotic. This can be done with the combined energies of the Sonic Underground's brooches, although this effect is only temporary—lasting only a few hours at most—and spends all of the Medallions' energies. Ifyoucan managed to retain his free will during the roboticization process due to a malfunction, but nevertheless has been biologically mechanized.

Using the roboticization procedure on already mechanical beings will yield adverse effects, as the roboticization process will "overload [their] system".

Interestingly, roboticized subjects still speak in robotic voices even when their mouth remains organic.
