Razor Kick is a melee attack which can be learned by anyone with some kind of sharp claw or blade on their foot. It is recommended mainly for characters of naturally bipedal species, which are more likely to naturally meet the prerequisites.
Description[]
The user readies a claw or blade on their foot and strikes their opponent, which can cut, tear, or pin their target depending on how the attack was used.
Users[]
Prerequisites[]
In order for this attack to be learned or used, the user must have some type of sharp claw or blade on their foot. This can be natural or artificial.
Variants[]
There are only two major variants, "hook" and "dagger".
In the hook variant of the attack, commonly used by individuals with hooked claws such as raptors, the claw usually gets caught in the opponent's skin or clothes, which can pull them to the ground; if pulling them to the ground is unsuccessful, their skin or clothes may tear instead. This variant has a higher risk of injury to the attacker due to the stress put on the claw, but it is effective against armor and tough skin.
In the dagger variant of the attack, commonly used by individuals with flat blade-like claws such as cassowaries, the claw cuts through anything it can on the way down. This can be devastating to opponents, but does poorly against armor and tough skin.
Combos[]
The hook variant can be combined with balance granted by any type of flapping wings to initiate raptor prey restraint, a real-life ability used by dromaeosaurs and birds of prey.
Weak Points[]
This can leave the user vulnerable before the attack lands, with the leg being a prime target. If the opponent is faster than the user and was not caught by surprise, they can take advantage of this.
If the attack misses, the user may become momentarily vulnerable, especially if they just slapped their foot against a hard or painful surface. Users with higher pain tolerance or lower attack force are less likely to be affected like this.
The attack does very poorly against spiky surfaces, such as a hedgehog's back, for obvious reasons.
Drawbacks[]
Using this attack can sometimes cause stress on the toe or foot, which can lead to bruising if used too much in battle. In rare cases, or when attempted by an inexperienced user, the foot or toe may break and their claw can even be torn off.
Exceptions[]
Dromaeosaurs, seriemas, and other sickle-clawed species using the hook variant of the attack are resistant (but not immune) to the injuries that can be caused by using this attack. The same goes for cassowaries using the dagger variant.
