The Prower Broadcasting Corporation, otherwise known as PBC, is a media conglomerate on Mobius, headquarted in the Federal Republic of Emeraldsbourg. The PBC is one of the largest broadcasters on Mobius (and the largest kid-owned/operated broadcasting organization on Mobius,) and has seen almost no form of competition, even though Channel 1 has produced some minor competition in recent years, as well as MMN. The PBC group includes many major media outlets and assets, including, but not limited to PBC One, PBC Kids, and even PBC Mobius. Although local stations were once tightly controlled from Prower Center (the company's headquarters,) they have since been liberalized. The PBC is so powerful, that some consider it an imperialist corporation.

The PBC runs from funds provided through TTCable license fees, some government grants and funding from the Board of Commons itself. The company runs on a television charter, which outlines the basic goals and missions for the network. Would the charter ever be destroyed, the PBC would never be able to exist as a legal company. The charter is renewed every 10 years; the next renewal date is on December 1, 2019.

The PBC was formerly an autocratic corporation, holding a tight foothold on most of the planet. Following April 30, 2010, the regime collapsed and most local stations are now free to make their own choices.

History

Birth of a Network

The year was 2006. Miles "Tails" Prower decided to begin a new television network to compete with MobiMedia, Channel 1 Emeraldsbourg and Mobian Television (now MOTV). The new network would be named TTN, or the Tails n' Things Network. As soon as the network launched on June 22, 2006 with normal fanfare, the network became a success. Over 13 million people would tune in to TTN every day.

Every day, the TTN network would air cartoons, sitcoms, comedies, sports and religious programming, current affairs programs (news,) cultural programming, and many movies! Within 6 months of its launch, TTN became the F.R.E.'s most watched network. In late 2006, Tails decided to localize TTN and form local affiliates. By 2008, every market in the country had a TTN affiliate. TTN went international on July 16, 2007, with the arrival of TTN on WKTE in Echidna Country.

Online Success

On July 20, 2006, TTN launched a website, TTNonline. The website featured episode of hit shows, tv listings, and even a "Voice your Choice!" section where fans would vote on different issues. The website was not as much as a success as the television channel, but still received a high number of hits.

Change in Tone

By the middle of 2007, however, TTN began to take on a more hardline news approach. Some of the old sitcoms were cancelled and taken off air. Those timeslots were repaced with news programs. This caused some viewers to turn away, thus, the early heyday of TTN ended.

2008 was considered a stalemate year for TTN, but it did bring the arrival of parades and Parliament meetings. The Board of Commons was formed in July 2008 to oversee the TTN network, replacing the former one-man autocratic system.

2009: New Looks and Rebellion

File:STVLogo.png

The STV Logo (2009)

2009 approached, and it turned out to be a revolutionary year for the FRE media industry. In February 2009, Sonic the Hedgehog took half of a stake in Tails' company, which would create a chain reaction in the whole economy.

On February 27, 2009, TTN stocks and paperwork were discarded as the Sonic Television System, also known as STV, launched at 2:00 AM EMST. STV was never as popular as TTN was, because of the switch to public broadcasting. However, new sitcoms and cartoons began airing in March. Also that month, construction on a new STV HQ near West Allis began. Eventually, this small HQ building would become the large mixed-use development Prower Center.

When Shahooter's Rebellion occured in the fall, many of the stations were damaged, with WTTN (STV flagship) being in the worst condition. One of its anchors was taken hostage, and the station was brought off the air for the first time in history. However, the risks passed, and STV came out strong again. However, conflicts within the STV leadership would lead to a new chapter...

Welcome, PBC!

After a controversial Board meeting in late November, Tails walked out of the meeting in protest of Sonic's plan to raise cable taxes. On December 1, the Prower Broadcasting Corporation was formed. Because of the station's location underneath Prower Manor, WTTN was the first station to join the new network. By mid-December, WMBC, WTTA, WTTH and WFTT had joined the new network. The fates of all of STV's afilliates upon disaffiliation:

  • WFTT became the only international station (Fow Toth) to join PBC. Elsewhere around the world, PBC Mobius began transmissions.
  • WMBC, WTTN, WTTA and WTTH all joined PBC by mid-December 2009.
  • WKTE chose to go independent.
  • WGHT (Green Hill's former STV station) was shut down and became a repeater for WTTN.

Centralization Regime

Unfortunately for local creative departments, the PBC was centralized. Similar to a dictatorship, all creative services were tightly controlled out of Prower Center, which houses the company's headquarters. Graphic departments did not exist in PBC's early days. A small department of the PBC called PBC Regions Ltd. was responsible for controlling the local stations. There was no local source of creativity. But by March 2010, the regime was collapsing, as local stations began to demand liberalization. The regime officially liberalized and dissolved on April 3, with the breakup of PBC Regions and the formation of two separate companies: Carlford and Turntable Television. These companies split the regions, some to Carlford and some to Turntable.

Stations enjoyed more creativity, but both companies still had set guidelines. This ended on April 30 with the Local Diversity Decree.

The PBC Today

Today, the PBC has grown to become one of the largest broadcasters on Mobius, with multiple assets, both local and international. The PBC serves the world through PBC Mobius and some international stations (PBCF).

However, the company is not without its criticisms. Many believe that PBC stations are too vulnerable and there is no advanced security system. Also, with the PBC run by kids, it is hard to understand how they would be able to run such a large corporation. Also, TTCable shows favoritism toward the PBC, as they are both owned by PHI.

Another International Expansion/PSTV

Since June 30, 2010 has passed, Tails has relaunched his intentions to expand the PBC. He, did have his sights set on the Glacian Nation. Fortunately, Tails says that he would not expand the PBC there; he wanted to start a new puppet network of the PBC there: Glacian Television, or GTV.

The application was rejected by the MCC by request of the Glacian government. Tails only had this to say:

Cquote1 The Glacians don't care. They hate me. That figures, because almost everyone in this country hates them. If they don't want me to come, then fine. I won't. I hope they're happy. Cquote2
CEO Miles "Tails" Prower

Tails has not given up his expansion goals, though. An example of this is that rumors reveal that there could be a new regional PBC Sports cable network, called Prower Sports Television (PSTV), that could launch by the end of the year. A letter from the PBC stated the company's response to such a rumor:

PROWER BROADCASTING PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE
SEPTEMBER 22, 2010 4:49 PM EMST
OFFICIAL STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE PSTV RUMORS

All rumors are true. PBC Sports has received the go-ahead to establish a new regional cable sports network, dubbed Prower Sports Television (PSTV). There will be 5 regional feeds, 1 sub-feed, and one national feed of PSTV.

According to the rest of the letter, the regional networks were decided on in August.

  • PSTV Mobius Corners will be the PSTV feed for the Midlands. Select Midlands Mellons, Midlands Redhawks and Mobius Corners Justice games will air on the new station, along with high school and college sports.
  • PSTV South will be the PSTV feed for all of the South (from Stewartstown to Oshawa City). College, high school, and Owisagan Rabids games will air here.
  • PSTV Central will be the PSTV feed for the Allis Valley and Willisville area. All West Allis athletics will air here.
  • PSTV Coast will be the PSTV feed for all of the Emeraldsbourg Coast. College, high school, Parkview Icehogs, Emeraldsville Hedgehogs, Parkview 56ers, Parkview Stars, Emeraldsville Green Boys and Parkview Renegades games will air here.
    • PSTV Southwest is the sub-feed of PSTV Coast that serves Alexandertown and the Southwest. College, high school and Alexandertown Wolves games will air here.
  • PSTV Islands will be the PSTV feed for the Emeraldsbourg Oceanic Territories. All athletics from the Islands will be aired here.

For cable providers who cannot pay for the local/regional feeds, there will be one national feed of PSTV. PSTV began operations on December 25, 2010.

February franchising

In early December, CEO Miles Prower announced that the local stations would be shaken up once again, in order to allow for more time to air local programming. The PBC's stations would be grouped into "franchises", which would control all local programming and only switch to the network feed for news and major sporting events. The new format will begin on February 1, 2011.

Time

One of the major reasons for this new organization is for time. Previously, PBC One would receive the most time on the schedule, and local stations wouldn't be able to air much programming. The current time allotment looks like this:

  • 12:00-5:00 AM: PBC One - Overnight Mix
  • 5:00-7:00 AM: Local stations - Usually reserved for morning news bulletins.
  • 7:00-10:30 AM: PBC One - goodMorning Show
  • 10:30 AM-12:00 PM: PBC One - Varies
  • 12:00-1:00 PM: Local stations - Usually reserved for midday news bulletins.
  • 1:00-5:30 PM: PBC One - Soap operas, comedies, sports.....
  • 5:30-6:00 PM: PBC One - PBC National
  • 6:00-8:00 PM: Local stations - Usually reserved for evening news bulletins.
  • 8:00-11:00 PM: PBC One - Primetime programming
  • 11:00 PM-12:00 AM: Local stations - Usually reserved for nightly news bulletins.
  • Total: PBC One - 18 hrs. / Local stations - 6 hrs.

Under the new franchising agreement, the time allotment would look like this:

  • 12:00 AM-4:00 AM: PBC One - Overnight Mix
  • 4:00-7:00 AM: Franchises - Usually reserved for morning news bulletins and local programming.
  • 7:00-10:30 AM: PBC One - goodMorning Show
  • 10:30 AM-1:00 PM: Franchises - Syndicated shows, local programming, local news
  • 1:00-5:00 PM: Franchises - Local programming (or PBC One for sporting events)
  • 5:00-6:00 PM: PBC One - PBC National
  • 6:00-8:00 PM: Franchises - Evening news and local/syndicated programming
  • 8:00-10:30 PM: PBC One - Primetime programming.
  • 10:30-11:00 PM: PBC One - The PBC 10:30 News
  • 11:00 PM-12:00 AM: Franchises - Nightly news bulletins, local programming.
  • Total: PBC One - 11.5 hrs. / Local franchises - 12.5 hrs.*

PBC Two expansion

Tails understood that some franchises wouldn't be able to provide enough local programming to fill their timeslots, so he plans to transform PBC Two from an island based network into a "backup" PBC One. This way, franchises without local programming can switch to the "PBC Two" feed to air programming.

Networks/Affiliates

The PBC is divided into local affiliates, the choice depending on where you are. In the Federal Republic of Emeraldsbourg, PBC One and PBC Two serve as networks, each with their own affiliates. This is also true for some international cities, such as Fow Toth Town.

All PBC One/Two affiliates at this time are owned-and-operated by the PBC (with the exception of PBCO-TV in Oshawa City, which is owned by Emerald Broadcasting, and PBCB-TV, which is owned by New Era Media.). Following the Local Diversity Decree, PBC stations can now be signed on and owned by companies other than Prower Broadcasting.

In August, Tails decided to change all callsigns of the PBC to PBC_. This affected all PBC One and Two affiliates.

PBC One/PBC Two

PBC One serves the Emeraldsbourg mainland and Fow Toth Town. The network serves as the primary PBC television network, broadcasting most of the sitcoms, sports, news and cartoons that the PBC has to offer. PBC Two serves the Emeraldsbourg Oceanic Territories and is basically a repeater of PBC One, with the exception of local news and programs.

International Coverage

Around the world, coverage is provided through PBC Mobius, which serves the rest of Mobius. The PBC owns a satellite that is used to transmit PBC Mobius. Scootania, however, is served by PBC Scootania, via separate feeds from Scootanian cable providers and local stations.

Leadership

As was STV, the PBC is managed and led by the Prower Broadcasting Board of Commons. The current CEO of Prower Broadcasting (and thus, the PBC,) is Miles "Tails" Prower.

The Board of Commons was made up of these kids:

  • Miles "Tails" Prower (CEO)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (limited role)
  • Scooter the Hedgehog
  • Sylvia Prower
  • Cathy Elmore

In July 2010, Scooter, Cathy, Sylvia and Sonic resigned. The former three wanted to focus more on PBCP-TV's news operation, while the latter decided to continue his quest for adventure. The Board of Commons was then reshuffled into separate districts in order to attend to local needs.

  • CEO: Miles "Tails" Prower
  • District 1 (PBCP/PBCE): Johsua M. Lockyrbye
  • District 2 (PBCW/PBCS/PBCB): Allen G. Treshner
  • District 3 (PBCM/PBCO): Connor G. Scott
  • District 4 (PBCF): Janet W. Healer
  • District 5 (Islands): Bishon J. Waller
  • District 6 (Rest of Mobius): Nythev Velhrev

Programming

Main article: Programs broadcast on the PBC Networks

In the PBC's early days, all programs were basically news-oriented, with some sitcoms and dramas. After April 3, however, the amount of programming has increased to include all kinds of programming.

Availability

Based on where you are located, you might be able to receive some kind of PBC service.

Federal Republic of Emeraldsbourg

Mainland

As the F.R.E. is the PBC's home country, local service exists here. Every resident in the F.R.E. can receive service from over-the-air (from an MCC-licensed transmitter,) via cable (The main cable providers in the F.R.E. are TTCable and Chaos Cable,) or through satellite. Prior to April 30, 2010, PBC Mobius was not available in Emeraldsbourg; it was added after some viewer complaints.

Islands

All islands can receive PBC Two (island repeater of PBC One,) over the air from local island-based stations.

Echidna Country

Although a separate country, Echidna Country can receive PBCP-DT 11.1 (Parkview) over the air through a translator. Thus, Echidna Country is served by PBC One, not PBC Two.

Fow Toth Town area

After May 2009, PBCF-DT 7.1 was made available to the Fow Toth area, thus the city is also served by PBC One.

Elsewhere around Mobius, cable and satellite providers can make PBC Mobius available to customers. In Scootania, local stations SCKS-DT, SPIO-DT and SERL-DT (and their repeaters,) make PBC Scootania available to their viewers.

News Operation

The PBC has a strong tradition in news broadcasting. PBC NewsNet is a 24-hour channel dedicated to airing news and weather from around the country and the world. PBC NewsNet is available on cable/satellite, or from some local subchannels.

All local PBC stations are required under network policy to carry newscasts to better inform the public of current events.

Network Newscasts

PBC News produces bulletins and lifestyle programs for the terrestrial networks of the PBC, in addition to PBC Mobius and PBC NewsNet.

  • goodMorning Show (7-10:30 AM - PBC One/Two)
  • PBC National (5:30-6:00 PM - PBC One/Two)

Logos

The PBC's logo was three black ovals that have the letters P, B and C in them. The colors of the ovals can change depending on the event or time of year. It was changed during coverage of the 2010 general election. Now it is the word "pbc" with a chevron-esque shape. The new logo has appeared on all networks, as PBC Government changed its logo on September 1, 2010

Trivia

  • To enhance the digital signals given off by PBC transmitters, all transmitters emit Chaos-enhanced radio waves to make the signals stronger. In addition, because of the Chaos energy, transmitters (as well as TTCable lines,) cannot be destroyed, damaged or fried.
