The Interview[]
Q1: Is this your first time winning Featured Article?
- A) I don't believe so, I forgot that exact character that won (it's been a few years), but I remember being
interviewed at one point.
# Q2: Where does his name come from?
- A) Nocmere is a play on the word "nightmare," the "noc" comes from "nocturnal" and the "mere" is a change up of the "mare" part of nightmare. His middle and last names were supposed to be tribal names that I chose from stringing a bunch of letters together.
# Q3: Why did you create this character? Was he part of a storyline you wrote?
- A) Nocmere's existence is independent from all the storylines I've written. He is in the Defender's Universe, my main storyline, which sets the stage that a nuclear war between the United States and Russia mutated all of the animals into humanoids, and now, the remaining human groups thousands of years later are trying to ally with the different animals to build up defenses for another Cold War.
Nocmere's situation was that he was supposed to be considered the worst case scenario, because when humans tried taking the ARK from him, he pretty much turned the intruding people into human graffiti and send them back to Earth with no life support. The idea is that both human groups want to avoid another situation with the new natives from turning out to be another Nocmere problem. Outside of Sonic Fanon, he's an immortal scientist who was raised as a human and discovers his godly powers during World War I.
# Q4: Was Nocmere involved in Project Shadow in any way? Did he collaborate with Gerald Robotnik in any project?
- A) ) No. Nocmere pretty much resided within the comet until the events of Shadow of the Hedgehog doing his own studies
# Q5: What is Nocmere’s greatest invention?
- A) A lot of Nocmere's physiology permits him to travel interdimensionally and across space and time. This means he generally focuses on contorting those skills to do impressive things like creating black holes, stars, and faster than light travel. If I had to shoot off an invention that'd be extremely beneficial to human society, it'd be the Feedback Sail, that takes energy into a laser that fires into a solar sail, allowing for electronic space propulsion.
# Q6: What are Nocmere’s goals?
- A) Nocmere doesn't have goals, his studies are done to keep his mind off of the fact that he's basically void of purpose, being an immortal, unbreeding creature born from the center of a destroyed comet.
# Q7: How did he acquire all this knowledge? What made him so different from the rest of the Black Arms?
- A) Without a drive to survive or embark in family and whatnot, Nocmere floated through the universe and found himself wrapped in the way it worked. He observed planets, quazars, black holes, and other galactic phenomena and discovered more of his powers through experimentation between those periods of study.
He was different from the other Black Arms in the way that he went on his own tangent with that, instead of following Black Doom.
# Q8: Is Nocmere’s character and personality inspired by a real person you know?
- A) TI like to say that they are inspired by myself. I used making projects and studying things as a way to distract myself from my depression, suicidal tendencies, and schizoaffective disorder that I experienced during middle school. As I improved into high school and adulthood, and Nocmere became his own character, he now draws inspiration from my father because they both had troubled pasts, and act irrationally and detach from society in order to cope with it, despite the fact that they are both geniuses.
# Q9: Is Nocmere immortal?
- A) Nocmere is immortal, he's tens of thousands of years old. He doesn't know if he's invincible, but his fighting style is very hands off and quick. He doesn't like long battles, he prefers to get things out of the way and make them stop, which is why a lot of tactics, such as sending heavily-experimented humans back to Earth in escape pods to tell GUN to go away, can be perceived as brutal.
# Q10: What is Nocmere’s relationship with humans?
- A) Nocmere sees humans as interesting as we see ants interesting when they are carrying a piece of cereal to their nest for further consumption. His contact with humanity is very limited, and only reaches out if it affects him. For example, if an asteroid was going to destroy the Earth, his home might fly out into deep space or crash into the Moon, and Nocmere won't want that so he'll go to humans to help construct a spaceship to block the asteroid.
