Nervous engineering, or nervous therapy, is a medical surgery involving the deliberate modification of one's nervous system to allow the ease of using their powers. This can be achieved through inserting electronics into the frontal lobe, the part of the brain that plays an important role in voluntary movement, such as walking.

Gaians are an advanced species of Mobians who are born with special powers, usually either elemental (water, fire, etc.), or physical (strength, intelligence, etc). These powers usually become active when puberty begans between 9 and 16 years of age, but this isn't always the case. This is known as energy deficiency.

Nervous engineering was invented during the 1960s, which is supposed to fix this problem.

In most countries, a Gaian who energy-deficient must go through nervous engineering by the age of 21.

The process is almost like eye surgery. Electronics are sent into the brain's frontal lobe through a needle that goes through the eye. Sometimes, this isn't a very clean process and it may result in pain in said eye for a few days, or maybe even blindness.
