Neo Metal Sonic/

[Show/Hide More Info]

Neo Metal Sonic (ネオメタルソニック Neo Metaru Sonikku?) is a transformation of Metal Sonic that makes him more powerful, gives him the ability to disguise himself as others, most notably as Dr. Eggman; and allows him copy the bio-data of life forms, copying their abilities as well.

History[]

Sonic Heroes[]

Neo Metal Sonic first appears in Sonic Heroes, where he is the main antagonist. He presumes the role of Dr. Eggman in order to confront the four playable Teams and copy their bio-data. Once successfully copied, Neo Metal Sonic reveals himself and transforms into Metal Madness and Metal Overlord in an attempt to beat the heroes. However, Team Super Sonic manage to show him what they're made of and defeat him. Metal Overlord then reverts to base Metal Sonic.

IDW Comic series[]

Neo Metal also makes an appearance in the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, where he served as the main antagonist for the first twelve issues.

After the events of Sonic Forces, Dr. Eggman went missing. His Badnik armies remained, although ununified and wandering aimlessly. Eventually, attacks on cities become more unified, causing Sonic, Tails, and friends to assume that Eggman had returned. However, it is revealed that Eggman is not commanding the army, but instead living a peaceful life in Windmill Village as "Mr. Tinker." The group questions whether or not the new identity is a fallacy, and if they should hold Mr. Tinker responsible for the Eggman War. After fighting with Shadow on this topic, Sonic goes to the Egg Fleet to find ...Dr. Eggman?!

Sonic immediately knows that the Eggman he's facing isn't the real one, as the real Eggman is currently Mr. Tinker. Eggman then transforms and reveals himself to be Neo Metal Sonic, who explains how he was intended to be one of the doctor's greatest weapons in the finale of the Eggman War, but was completed after the Resistance had already won. He had been given the doctor's bio-data, thus giving him his drive to expand the Eggman Empire and control over his robot army. He then demands to know where Eggman is in order to hand control over to him. Sonic declines and proceeds to fight Neo. Neo initially gets beaten up, but returns the favor after copying Sonic's bio-data. Sonic escapes by jumping off of an Egg Fleet battleship, to which Neo Metal calls him a coward.

As Sonic tells the rest of his friends what happened, Neo Metal and the Egg Fleet approach Angel Island. Without Knuckles to guard it, Neo Metal turns the Master Emerald altar into a giant Eggman statue, and the Master Emerald into his throne. Sonic and Knuckles soon arrive to fight Neo Metal, with the Resistance taking the Egg Fleet; but Neo Metal is prepared for this. He uses the power of the Master Emerald to transform into Super Neo Metal Sonic, and proceeds to wipe the floor with Sonic and Knuckles. Shadow eventually comes in to deliver a swift kick to Super Neo Metal, knocking him back into the Master Emerald. Neo Metal then explains how the only necessary items to transform again are Sonic and Shadow's bio-data, and the Master Emerald itself; all of which he now has.

Neo Metal Sonic transforms again, this time into the massive Master Overlord (which is not the same as Metal Overlord from Heroes). With the Master Emerald attached to him, Angel Island goes into freefall. Eventually though, Knuckles removes the Master Emerald from Master Overlord, causing the latter to slowly transform back into base Metal Sonic, and Knuckles puts the Master Emerald back in the altar, causing Angel Island to rise again.

IDW 11

Dr. Starline waking up Mr. Tinker in an attempt to rid him of his amnesia, from Sonic the Hedgehog #11.

Metal Sonic is then de-weaponized by Tails and given the chance to live for himself by Sonic, offering his hand to shake. To this, Metal slaps Sonic's hand and runs off.

While Neo Metal had the Resistance preoccupied, Dr. Starline used Rough and Tumble to kidnap Mr. Tinker and force him into some hardcore psychotherapy (aka torture). After little success, the damaged Metal Sonic walking in causes Mr. Tinker to rush over to start repairing him, but Tinker remembers who Metal Sonic is and regains his old memories and persona of Dr. Eggman.

Trivia[]

  • In Sonic Heroes, Neo Metal Sonic's voice is the same voice actor as Sonic, Ryan Drummond, but with many voice filters applied.
