History[]

Ancient Masks

The origin of these masks are a mystery, as three masks found so far. From left to right: Mask of Aggression, Mask of Emeralds, Mask of Wealth. (Note: These are their temporary names)

They each were found scattered across an ancient Echidna underground city. It is believed that there are more masks not only in the city, but across the planet.

These masks have shown to effect it's wearer by giving them powers unique to the mask, but only while they are wearing it.

Mask of Aggression[]

This was the first mask to be found. It was discovered on the skeleton of a lone Echidna surrounded by several Echidna guards (based on their apparel).

When it was first put on by one of the excavators, he began picking up nearby things (rocks, bones, spears, etc...) and throwing them at the rest of the crew with great accuracy. It wasn't until he was shot down by one of the other crew members that the mask was able to be retrieved again.

The mask itself is made of two wooden pieces, one red and the other white, held together by three pieces of iron nailed on to them. It's unknown how it is able to stay on to the person's face, as it lacks any form of strap. It also has an indent on the inside where the person's nose would go. This would make it hard to breathe with the mask on, most likely making the wearer faint from lack of air or suffocate.

Mask of Emeralds[]

This was the second mask found. It was located in a bath house near a religious temple.

With the startling and tragic outcome of the first mask, it was hard to convince another crew member to try it on and see what would happen. After an alleged hour or so, someone tried the mask on. As soon as it made contact with his face, his neck snapped as it turned an estimated 100 degrees at a high velocity, instantly killing him. For the time, it was simply called "The Mask of Neck-Snapping". It wasn't until one of the crew members burst out in tears saying she "couldn't take [the killings] anymore" and put the mask on. Instead, her head simply tilted downward. She was able to take the mask off, and said she "saw a purple twinkle far away". It was later after the excavation that it pointed her and the previous person to the location of a Chaos Emerald.

The mask appears to have seven metal pieces (most likely copper) carved into the mask, possibly representing the seven Chaos Emeralds, with one large eye-hole instead of two.

Mask of Wealth[]

This was the third mask to be found. It was found in an alleyway in a possibly residential area.

This mask was found by coincidence, as it had no prominent metal features and did not raise any suspicion. Although the third hole was considered strange, one crew member tried it on. He reported feeling no different, and so he wore the mask for most of the excavation. Once it had ended, they rest of the crew found out that he was able to find much more ancient currency the rest of the entire team combined. He said it was "just by coincidence". Thus creating the belief that the mask gives its wearer the ability to find any form of money easier.

The mask, as stated above, does not have any metal protruding out of it. Instead, all shapes are painted on to it. They include five golden rings and a white crescent similar to that found on an Echidna's chest. It's most noticeable feature is the hole on it's forehead, possibly for a "third eye".

Current Status[]

Each of the masks can be found at their exhibit in the Central City Museum. They are waiting for an appraisal from an Echidna Elder.
