Modern Care For Your Chick-of-Prey is a paperback parenting guide book which exists within the Doriteverse. It was written for mobian parents who are carnivorous birds, such as eagles, hawks, falcons, vultures, and owls, though it has also found popularity among carnist keas.

Description[]

The cover of this paperback book has a photo of a cream-colored mobian kestrel chick begging for food in the typical baby bird fashion against a white background, with the name of the book at the top in maroon with the author's name right below in navy blue. The back has a summary of the book and its publishing history wrapped around additional photos, one of a mobian owl chick playing with a toy mouse and the other of two mobian eagle chicks laughing.

Its contents include instructions on proper care for infant mobian birds of prey, including a section on food which has warnings against the use of milk and instructions on how to properly prepare raw meat, a section on sanitation which covers how to properly clean up poop and pellets that get on a chick's feathers and how to clean the faces of messy eaters, and various other things. It also covers safety concerns for modern society such as how to teach a chick to suppress their predator instincts around mobians who are their natural prey without causing behavioral issues, and how to avoid being injured by an upset chick's talons—as well as how to treat wounds inflicted by them.

It also contains more general information about raising chicks, such as preening, beak care, flight training, cleaning between delicate scutes, and what to do when a young chick breaks one of their pin feathers. It also has various instructions common to all babies.

Users[]

Within the Doriteverse, Dr. Robotnik owns a copy of this book. It is one of two books he referenced when raising Razor the Raptor, in the absence of books pertaining to non-avian dinosaur care. He definitely got weird looks when he bought it.

Powers[]

It is a book. It contains all the power that its knowledge gives.

In terms of power powers, this book has none. It is just a paperback parenting guide book.

History[]

This book was originally conceived by Doctor Katherine Kestrel, who noticed that many bird-of-prey parents were relying on old books that were highly outdated, used confusing terminology, and were written before the rise of modern sanitation and medicine—resulting in a disproportionate number of cases of illness and food poisoning in chicks. With help from carnivorous peers and her own experience as a mother, she wrote an up-to-date guide—however, she found difficulty getting it published due to a general lack of carnivorous birds involved in publishing. She eventually opted to self-publish instead with help from a friend who could print the books for her.

Although while self-published the book wasn't especially popular, it caught the attention of Hazel the Hawk, an electrician who happened to know someone at Featherbud Publishing—a lesser-known but still relevant publisher which specializes in books about bird parenting. Hazel helped Dr. Kestrel to get it published there, and it quickly became the most popular book for carnivorous bird parents.
