Though impressively mobile and far from helpless when fighting up close, Tails excels as a set up character, fighting his battles from a distance and controlling the flow of battle with his various tools and gadgets that make for efficient traps, with his Style Action being a crucial tool for some of his best set ups. The fact that a lot of his tools tend to have a fairly high damage output on average means that getting played into this mechanical genius' strategies can mean a quick defeat for the opponent.

However, all this potential with his gadgets comes at the cost of having a lack of any good defensive options without the usage of his Action Gauge. In addition, Tails sports lower-than-average health and having such a reliance on setting up his traps and tools in order to devastate the opponent can sometimes be difficult against opponents that don't require any of that in order to do any of that. Needless to say, this means that Tails must take care not to let the opponent bypass his set ups if he wishes to come out on top.

Moveset

Force Drive - Exchange button

  • Tails' Style Action, where he sets up a floating device that interacts with or even enhances some of his special moves in some manner when nearby.

> Engage - AS QCF + Exchange button

  • The device is activated and serves as a repelling field that sends the opponent away, dealing small damage.

> Disengage - AS QCB + Exchange button

  • The device is deactivated and Tails retrieves it.

Steel ScrapperAS QCF + Attack light / Attack medium

  • Attack light Version - Tails lunges in a short distance with an uppercut before landing a powerful blow with his Magic Hand.
  • Attack medium Version - Tails rushes forward and lands an uppercut before launching forth a mighty strike with the Magic Hand.

Lightning HandAS QCF + Attack h

  • An EX Move where Tails grabs the opponent with the Big Hand before setting off a massive shock from it.

> Domination - N/A

  • Should Tails have one bar of meter upon landing the above move, he immediately follows-up with a Decisive Action where he charges up his Energy Ball cannon before pounding it into the ground, unleashing a massive vertical beam of Chaos Energy.

High Voltage - Arcade Modifier (Air) Arcade Stick HCF + Exchange button

  • Tails briefly charges his Energy Ball cannon before firing off a powerful beam. When fired near a Force Drive, its startup is decreased while its damage output is increased.

Voltage Sphere - Arcade Modifier (Air) AS QCB + Attack button

  • Attack light Version - Tails launches a sphere of Chaos Energy into the air before landing directly in front of Tails. With a Force Drive active, the sphere quickly homes in on its position.
  • Attack medium Version - Tails fires a sphere of Chaos Energy into the air at a slightly lower angle, making it land a fair distance away from Tails. With a Force Drive active, the sphere quickly homes in on its position.
  • Attack h Version - Tails launches a larger sphere of Chaos Energy with a slightly higher damage output into the air before landing a distance away from Tails. With a Force Drive active, the sphere quickly homes in on its position.

Thunder Beam - AS S + Attack button

  • Attack light Version - Tails deploys a device that shoots a beam of Chaos Energy that covers full vertical area but has little horizontal range upon activation. When within range of an active Force Drive, it receives a small damage increase.
  • Attack medium Version - Tails deploys a device that fires off a vertical beam of Chaos Energy, which has slightly larger horizontal reach and can be delayed. In range of a Force Drive grants it a larger damage increase.
  • Attack h Version - Tails deploys a device that instantly fires off a vertical beam of Chaos Energy with a high damage output. Being near a Force Drive increases its damage even further.

Force Phaser - Arcade-Stick-DownArcade-Stick-Down + Exchange button

  • Tails activates a teleportation device, transporting him a set distance forward. With a Force Drive active, Tails instead teleports to its position.

Galvanic Obliterator - Arcade Modifier (Air) AS QCF + Attack lightAttack medium

  • A Decisive Action where Tails charges up his Energy Ball cannon before unleashing a powerful beam of Chaos Energy at the opponent.

Galvanic Obliterator - Full Throttle - Arcade Modifier (Air) AS QCF + Attack hExchange button

  • A Decisive Action where Tails charges his Energy Ball cannon to its maximum output and beckons two orb-shaped cannons to his side. Tails then has both his cannon and the orbs fire off a devastating blast of Chaos Energy that decimates all in its path.

Brave Blue Tornado - AS QCB  + Attack hExchange button

  • Tails' Decisive Climax, where he pulls out a device and calls in the Tornado, which promptly flies past him and right into the opponent. He then hops onto the plane and begins firing a hailfire of gunshots with the plane’s guns before the plan swiftly transforms into a bipedal walker mech and unleashes a devastating laser beam of Chaos Energy, dealing massive damage.

Extermination - Arcade-Stick-DownArcade-Stick-DownArcade-Stick-Down + Attack hExchange button

  • Tails' Shutdown finisher, where he stuns his foe with his Magic Hand before setting coordinates for his personal satellite to fire towards his location. He then catches the incoming beam with his Big Hand, compressing the beam into a ball of mass destruction before tossing it towards his hapless foe, causing a massive explosion of epic proportions and somehow leaving himself unscathed.
