It's come to my attention that your way of "reviewing" articles on your Article Review blog is, to be blunt, extremely flawed and causing quite a stir with the other users.
From what I've seen, you've been marking articles as not meeting standards when in fact, they do meet Policy standards. Some of your reasoning behind such seem to stem from personal experience and opinions rather than what is written on the page as well. This is not a valid or rational way to mark pages. The policies have changed many times since you started in 2011, and may continue changing as we go on. I urge anyone who has any questions about them to speak up and ask before making assumptions; that includes other administrators.
There's also the matter of the "review", part. If you are going to call it "Article Review", you should actually take the time to sit down and give legitimate reviews on said articles. If you cannot do that then you can at the very, very least state your reasonings behind marking it for standards. And most importantly, I've seen next to no communication towards any of the users that own the pages in your list. Many have gotten marked without the owners ever even knowing. If you have the time to read through and mark pages, you have time to do at least this much.
As of right now you currently have five pages listed as non-standard, when all of them qualify. The list will be cleared. If you plan to keep doing this, I strongly suggest you take another look at the Policy Standards before continuing.
Hiya Hika; I'm just acting on a message from a user that's a little confused and honestly a touch concerned about how you approach your Article Review blog.
The concern relates to how the pages are chosen - many of the pages that were mentioned to me were ones that, while not meeting standards, would not have taken much effort on behalf of the creator to get to that threshold. In contrast, there are a number of pages that have not been selected that are far from Standards. Because of this; the user feels that the overall quality of the wiki might be viewed as going down.
I was just wondering if you were willing to actually explain how the articles are chosen; so we can put the user at ease.
Hello again. I noticed that you put one of my pages The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: I Am the Future/Story Mode on your Article Review Blog for not adhering to article standards. The page has a minimum of 2 paragraphs as stated in the policy, has proper use of english grammar and vocabulary and does not have any pornographic content. To my knowledge it fulfills all policy standards. Is there anything else I should edit in order for the page to meet standards?
Hi Hikaruymi. I noticed that, yesterday, you added a standards violation tag to my page One Robot Down! for not having a detailed enough overview, so I just rewrote the overview (diff). Can I remove the standards violation tag now, or does the overview need more work?
Hi Hikaruyami. I’m still looking for some feedback on how to fix that page. Would this work?
Add an Overview heading, with the contents "A crimson wisp explains his society."
Add a chapter heading: "Chapter 1: Explaining Myself"
Add a Characters Included section, containing one item: "Mal the Crimson Wisp"
Also, I understand why chapter headings and overviews are helpful for long pages, but I’m not so sure about very short stories. Do you think there could be some cutoff where stories above X words need these things, while shorter ones don’t?
Please let me know what you think about these two points.
Just one last question before I apply this treatment to my other story articles: Is it all right if, in the case of single chapter headings, if I just write something like "Story" instead of "Chapter 1: such-and-such", since—if I'm seeing this correctly—the main point in having chapter headings is to distinguish the story content from the Overview and Included Characters sections?
Hi Hikaryumi! Sorry for the delay. I finally got myself together and added overviews to my fanfictions. If you wouldn't mind, could you take a quick look through my fanfictions category and let me know if I forgot to add overviews to any of them?
Anyway, I hope that this should let my stories comply with the proper policies. Thanks for working with me through this and helping me out here!
Hi! I noticed that you flagged my fanfiction Wisp World Explained as a standards violation, saying that it "Needs to connect with the story". However, I'm not exactly sure what part of it doesn't connect, or what story you're saying that it doesn't connect to...Could you help me figure out what's wrong with the page so that I can fix it? Thanks in advance if you help me with this!
I'm not exactly sure how I could add these things to the story. While I could add a character list at the end (although it would be somewhat redundant, given that the story ends by essentially saying which characters are in it), I don't think I could add chapter headings as the story is nowhere near qualifying length for a single story chapter of most books, and attempting to write an overview would be somewhat difficult, as the story is incredibly short and the unreliable narrator makes it largely unknown for most of the story what it's even about exactly. Could you help explain if these things are still necessary in these circumstances?
Also, on the topic of overviews: None of my stories have them. Are they violating policy somehow by doing so? If so, I will try to add overviews where possible (although a few may be short enough that, like this one, I'd be hard pressed to figure out how I could write a decent overview that wouldn't be a story summary). If not, though, I'd prefer to keep my stories as-is.
If you could help me figure out how to adhere to the rules in these regards, that would be greatly appreciated!
