Mephiles the Dark is the central antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog. He is one of two halves of the Solaris Project, with the other being Iblis. Mephiles' ultimate goal is to gather the Chaos Emeralds in order to merge with Iblis and destroy the universe, making all timeframes cease to exist in the process...
