Maria the Gryphon was born and raised in Athens, Greece as an Orthadox Christian and became an avid church-goer. However as she got older she decided to travel to South Island in order to establish a new Orthadox Church, although in her studies she became aware of the Pantheon, and thus decided to join her Christian faith with the Pantheon to found the Church of the Holy Light. For two years she has become its head priest.

Maria is a gryphon of Greek descent although her parents or other family members are unknown. It's believed that in the economic crisis of Greece her family abandoned her at the steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, and thus was raised by the Archbishop of Athens. She took refuge in the cathedral itself and made its upper floors her home.

After moving to South Island she managed to raise money to construct and furnish the Mobian Orthadox Church, although recently it has been renamed the Orthadox Church of the Light to promote worship of The Pantheon.

Maria also wears an Armor of the Gods, gifted to her by Christ as she founded the Orthadox Church of the Light. Unlike other Armors, her armor does not show signs of any bestowed powers like the Omega Raiment of the Chaos Raiment.

As a religious person Maria does not promote violence, aggression or other actions that defy the teachings of the Bible. She believes wholeheartedly that there is redemption for all beings, and that no man is truly sinful until death. Whereas before she was ignorant to the religious ethics of others, she now embraces the virtues of all religions but nonetheless remains true only to the Pantheon.

Not having a family to speak about Maria maintains that her religion and her adoptive father the Archbishop of Athens to be all the guides she needs to live her life. She considers all followers of religion as her friends and maintains an open mind that all religions perhaps connect together to form a much bigger picture that mortals cannot see, her included.

She dislikes any action that goes against the teachings of religion and the virtues of the Gods, but nonetheless refuses to fight unless it is to defend her principles. Her thoughts on science is merely that it is the answer to how and not to answer to why; she believes that events like the Big Bang and Evolution are merely parts of God's plan.

Born in 1993 Maria was found abandoned at the steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens on a late Saturday evening. Raining and cold with only a white silk blanket and a basket to keep her warm, she was fortunate to be found by the Archbishop of Athens quickly. The archbishop found the mythical-species Mobian to be a sign of blessing from God, and raised her as his own child. He gave her her name after the Virgin Mary.

As she became older Maria was raised in an almost completely religious environment, although the Archbishop knew that she had to have her own sense of freedom and thus allowed her to wander the city of her own accord. Maria became widely accepted because of her species of a mythical creature, but no bad influence could befall her as her heart was devoted to God.

At the age of 16 Maria wanted to leave Greece to head to South Island where there were more Mobians like her. Despite the Archbishop's protests, he realized that he could not keep her locked in the Cathedral forever. He gave his daughter one final blessing before seeing her off. With a tearful farewell, Maria was about to begin her life anew on South Island.
