Immarius' debut is The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Heroes. He serves as the main antagonist of the game. Immarius leads an alien army called The Gravitus. With this army and a huge armada of spaceships, he invades the Earth in attempt to get the 7 Chaos Emeralds and ressurect Dark Legion.
Immarius' first action is the bombardment of Central City. After that, he heads to the Angel Island and attepts to take it with him by attaching it to his mothership. However, Big the Cat and Cream manage to destroy the chains and free the Angel Island. Immarius is then seen again in his fleet invading the Mount BlueChaos in attempt to retreive Sonic's Chaos Emeralds. He then heads to his base, the Space Colony ARK which is now under the control of the Gravitus. Immarius attempts to power up the Eclipse Cannon with the emeralds and shoot the Earth in order to awaken his master. However, Sonic, the heroes and Dr. Eggman thwart his plans, ending up firing the Earth with fewer emeralds than he had planned. After that, he abandons the Ark and heads to his Gravitus Mothership, preparing for battle against the G.U.N. and Dr. Eggman. After battling the heroes in his mothership, Immarius loses the battle and his entire army is eradicated. Immarius somehow teleports to an unknown place before the mothership collapses.
He also appears in the Final Story. The heroes find him inside a parallel universe in which it is revealed that he had been working with Zeline all this time. After he stabbs Zeline and kills her in the form of a sacrificial ritual, he manages to awaken Dark Legion. In the final battle against Super Sonic, Immarius releases his flame core at the sky and his armor turns into dust. After that, he is never seen and is unknown if he actually died or teleported himself into another world.
Immarius appears as an unlockable character in the fighting game. Unlike the other characters, he does not have a role in the story nor a character ending. His moveset consists of the main attacks "Hostile Surge", "Gravitus Slice", "Abyssal Crush" and "Oblivion" while his three hypers are "Ignis Corpus" (shoots a laiser from his core), "Penetration" (furiously attacks the player, slicing him with his sword) and "Divine Kill" (transforms into Gravitus God and crushes the character with the palm of his hand).
According to Zeline, Immarius is the same species as Zeline and they both come from the same planet. Although the species is never exactly specified in the game, it is pressumed that they are both Gravitus, the name of Immarius' army. He was once a pieceful soul who was corrupted by the powers of darkness and evil and exterminated his entire race, leaving him and Zeline one of the last of their kind. In the game, it is later revealed that Immarius made a deal with a creature known as Dark Legion. Dark Legion would give him an indestructable armor and, in return, Immarius would gather his army to go ressurect him from Earth.
In The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: I Am the Future, during the Final Story, Immarius' backstory is revealed. Once a normal Gravitus, he lived in Elvenstar, a planet full of peace and prosperity, along with Zeline and his race. However, one day, he was severly injured and was in his final days of life, until one creature approached him telepathically, introducing itself as Dark Legion. Dark Legion promised Immarius to construct him an indistructable armor, which would make him immortal and in exchange, Immarius would have to go to planet Earth to resurrect him using 7 magical items known as the Chaos Emeralds. Immarius agreed to help him and he was granted with the armor. However, he went power mad and turned against his own race for what they had done to him and exterminated them all, leaving him and Zeline the last of their kind. He gathered an army whom he named the Gravitus and traveled to Earth to resurrect his master and fulfill his promise.
It is revealed that after the events of The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Heroes, Immarius, contrary to Dark Legion and Zeline, survived by traveling in the distant future where he reigned supreme, via time travel. However, Immarius became vulnerable and his armour weakened due to Dark Legion being dead. Therefore, the armor began slowly to lose its power. Immarius immediately began seeking a way to restore its energy, until he found a way to open a path in the Nexus, the world which connects worlds, to go there and restore his energy and once again become supreme. To do this he needed the Master Emerald complete along with the Chaos Emeralds.
Immarius wears a full-body armor, beginning from his very toes all the way up to his head, which is said to be indestructable. According to Zeline, it was constructed by Dark Legion as a bribe in order to resurrect him. It is unknown what is actually beneath his armor, possibly a life form like Zeline or at least what is partially left from it. Immarius has a blue flame in his chest which never fades. Using some of his flame, he can create Gravitus and even an entire army of them. However, that flame is also his weak spot. If that flame fades out, Immarius will die within seconds.
Immarius' main weapon is his giant katana which always carries. It has the ability to transform into a whip, an axe, a blade, a sword and a lancer. He also possesses the ability to create Gravitus minions from his flame core, to an extent where he can build an entire army of Gravitus. Immarius is very intelligent. He can instantly come up with many ways to get what he needs in his hands. However, Immarius does not only use his sword for battle. He has super strength and can run extremely fast. His cape also enables him to levitate. It is revealed in the Final Story that Immarius can travel through time and space but only through his flame core.
fourstat code is
Immarius is completely dependent on two things; his flame core and his armour. The flame core acts as Immarius' "etheric body", a means of travelling through time and dimensions. His armour serves as his vessel, containing both the flame core, his hypothetical heart, and his fragile body. If the flame core on Immarius' chest is put out, Immarius woulds instantly die. This is how Sonic ultimately kills him in The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: I Am the Future.
Immarius' armour is what keeps him together. It is said to be impetetrable and indestructable. This is truw only when Dark Legion is alive. In The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: I Am the Future, Immarius' armour becomes dramatically weak, after the death of his master. Immarius' true body, according to his backstory provided by Zeline, is severely injured and partially destroyed, but never actually seen. It is pressumed that without the support of his armour, Immarius would be incapable of surviving.
Like most villains in the Sonic universe, Immarius is a cold-hearted, ruthless killing machine. He does not show any sort of empathy or emotions and does not care about anything except himself and his master, Dark Legion. He is even able to kill Zeline easily without hesitation or concern. In addition, Immarius doesn't realize that his actions are wrong and cruel and doesn't find himself evil at all. In fact, he believes that the humans are the evil ones while he is benevolent. However, despite being a destruction-loving character, Immarius is always very serious and calm and does not question Dark Legion's order.
As a Boss
Immarius appears as a Boss in two different levels in The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Heroes. He first appears as the Boss for Spacecraft Ocean. He is fought inside his spacecraft. He uses his sword for all his attacks. His sword can be transformed into versatile weapons such as a katana, a whip, a gun etc. He can also fly. He cannot be played with Immarius as a playable character.
Immarius also appears as the Boss for Gravitus Squadron along with a more poweful monster, the Gravitus Avatar. Here, Immarius is weaker than he was before but can still charge some poweful moves. Both are fought in the same time inside the mothership. Again, Immarius as a playable character does not have access to this Boss.
