Plot[]
Luke presents the signet rings to the royal siblings (Sonic's is the real one whilst Sonia's and Manic's are fakes).
The Hedgehogs' latest stop on their quest to find their mother and father takes them to the prison tower where they encounter a masked stranger who insists he is family. This stranger is actually being used as bait for another attempt by Robotnik to capture them. The stranger creates a rift between the siblings over who will lay claim to the throne after Robotnik is defeated (even though by custom of agnatic primogeniture it is Sonic that is to wear the Crown of Mobius), which leaves the Underground disbanded, vulnerable and ultimately trapped. The Hedgehogs find a way to escape the prison walls that held their mother captive many years ago.
Trivia[]
- The title of this episode is a parody of the title of the film Man in the Iron Mask.
- One of the biggest departures from the original episode is the nature of the signet rings that Luke gives the siblings. Two of them are forgeries while Sonic's is the real royal signet, ultimately procuring his claim to the throne.
- Another departure is that we actually get to see, in the form of "dream sequence" footage, what-if scenarios of Sonia and Manic if they were to be crowned as ruler instead of Sonic (along with "dream sequence" footage of Sonic as King). But ultimately, they realize that it is best to have the firstborn of them (Sonic) rule Mobius as King. In this footage, we get to see a royal carriage pulled by several mechanical horses. This carriage has the typical "metallic"/sci-fi look that seen with the triplets' baby baskets and the Queen Aleena showboat.

[Sonic nods in agreement.]
- Sonic: Don't worry, bro. When I'm ruler, you won't have to vanish!
- Manic: [brightens] Really?
- Sonic: Really.
- [They hug.]
- Sonia: You? [Sonic and Manic break their hug and look at her in disbelief.] Hah! A ruler needs some culture and sophistication. You and Amy can't serve chili dogs at royal banquets! [Sonic looks quite put out at this remark.] Besides, I will never wear a mask, especially not one like that. Talk about a clashing accessory!
- Manic: Hey, royal blood flows through my veins too!
- Sonia: Hey! I don't recall saying you were the leader.
- Manic: Oh, like Miss Perfect doesn't think she's queen already.
- Sonia: You've got to admit, I look best in a crown!
- Sonic: And I'm saying that once I'm ruler, I'm sure Amy and I can work somethin' out for you two.
- Sonia: You know what positions we're going to take at court? Frankly, I don't think you are up to the royal job.
- Sonic: Oh yeah?!
- Sonia: Yeah!
- Luke: Look out! More of Robotnik's troops!
- Sonic and Sonia: [gasps]
- Sonic: Beat feet, sibs! Back in the van!
- [The four hedgehogs run into the Camper Van, the door closing behind them. The van drives away. Inside, they are seated and have their seat belts on, and Sonic is at the wheel.]
- Manic: Just because I've lived with Uncle Chuck for five years before you guys showed up doesn't mean I can't handle the crown!
- Sonic: Dream on! I'll be wearing the crown. It's my right according to agnatic primogeniture!
- Sonia: You? I'd look much better in a crown! Diamonds go with my eyes.
- [Sonic shoots an angry expression at Sonia.]
- Sonic: [angrily] I'm the leader of the Freedom Fighters, and therefore I can use these same skills to rule this planet!
- [After a second or two of silence, Sonic speaks up again.]
- Sonic: And you can serve chili dogs at royal banquets!
- Sonia: Oh, really? How can you?
- Sonic: There's a way to present chili dogs in a manner that would look fancy for a Banquet. Think about how the dishes are lined up and on a serving tray, sis. You could probably cut them up and serve them as hors d'oeuvre with the chili sauce in the middle to put on your dog.
- Sonia: Never thought about that before.
- Sonic: So therefore, I should wear the crown!
- Sonia: If you and Amy were to steer Mobius the way you steer a van, then we'd all be on the road to disaster!
- Sonic: [really pissed] Yeah?! Well, if you become Queen, I'll vanish on purpose!
- Manic: Argh!
- Sonic: Just so I don't have to listen to you!
- Sonia: Well if that's how you feel, then I'll just leave! Go off by myself.
- Sonic: Yeah! I don't need either of you to rule this worldwide kingdom! [he and Sonia part ways] As of now, the Sonic Underground is through! We each go our own way, and may the best ruler win.
- Sonia: Fine!
- Manic: Let there be the rule of cool!
- Luke: Mind if I accompany you?
- Manic: Hike along.
- Robotnik: [laughs heartily]
- Sonia: How could Sonic and Manic possibly think they'd be a better ruler than me? I'm the one with the queenly demeanor. Those other two? Ugh! They'd ruin a royal reputation.
- Luke: Oh, I agree, my dear niece!
- Sonia: Uncle? But how?
- Luke: Your brother Manic abandoned me! Not royal material at all in my opinion.
- Sonia: And Sonic is just as bad! They both make me so angry!
- Luke: Now, now. What would your poor mother and father think?
- Sonia: Huh? [gasps] You're right! Mother and Father would want us to work together.
- Luke: [gasps]
- Dingo: Sonia!
- Sonia: Huh? [gasps]
- Dingo: In my arms at last!
- Sonia: HELP!!
- Sonic: All I need is to get the van out of the ditch, and I can go on tour as a solo Resistance act. [enters the garage] Anyone here? I need a tow truck! Hmm... maybe they have a wrench I can borrow.
- Luke: An excellent idea!
- Sonic: [gasps] What? How'd you get here? Where are Sonia and Manic?
- Luke: He's... they're just not suitable as rulers. I've decided you are. That's why I came.
- Sonic: Yeah? How'd you find me?
- Luke: Uh, I, um... uhh...
- Sonic: Spit it out, Uncle! If that's really who you are, how'd you track me down? [his ring starts glowing] Say...!
- Luke: I was right. You are the rightful heir.

[After dropping Luke off in the base in Robotropolis, the Camper Van drives away. Manic turns to his brother Sonic.]
- Manic: Hey, King Bro?
- Sonic: Yeah?
- Manic: You said that you and Amy were gonna assign positions to us at court.
- Sonia: Yeah! Got any ideas?
- Sonic: Sonia, you will be a chief lady to my future queen, Amy Rose.
- Sonia: Cool. Things are goin' up, down, and all 'round!
- Sonic: And Manic, I have decided that you will be...
- Manic: [excited] Yeah? Yeah?!
- Sonic: I have decided that you're gonna be the royal comptroller.
- Manic: Wow! I'm good with counting money for the supply ships so I accept, Your Majesty.
- Sonia: Now that this is behind us, we gotta clean the van wheel of dirt from the ditch where Sonic crashed it.
