Gale the Lynx, also known as Natalie Alister, is a major character in Crystallumverse. She is a young lynx of unknown origin who was abducted by Dr. Starline to be used as a prototype for Operation: Remaster. She was eventually deemed a failure, and was abandoned in a state of mental instability. Left to prey on the criminals of Central City, she was eventually arrested, then bailed out by OmegaCorp.
Appearance[]
Gale is a green-furred lynx with pitch-black markings on her body, as well as her muzzle, toes, and the tips of her ears. Her hair is long, black, and messy, lacking any particular style. Her irises are gold, which some say can even be seen in the dark.
Her typical outfit consists of multiple layers, with the bottom layer consisting of a white dress shirt, a dark blue tie, dark gray slacks, and brown dress shoes. This gives her the deceptive appearance of an office worker, or an "intelligence officer" as she often refers to herself. Over this she wears a dark gray coat, with the sleeves pushed up past the elbow. Lastly, she wears a red cloak with a red hood. The hood is often hidden under her hair, but when the façade comes off, the hood covers her head, obscuring most of her facial features except for her eyes.
Her primary weapon is the "Sealed" state of her Eikon, Orochi. In this state it takes the form of paired daggers, which can extend into bladed whips to attack her targets at range.
Personality[]
Although Gale suffers from an extreme form of sociopathy due to Starline's botched experiments on her, she does her best to maintain a façade of "normalcy". However she mostly keeps to herself, and avoids interacting with others. For the most part, this seems to work...
...except when she's hunting someone. When OmegaCorp gives her a target, or when she gives herself a target worthy of her attention, she drops the façade. She's cruel, insane and sadistic, and relishes in the suffering of others. Although she typically only hunts down those who are guilty of murder, anyone who gets in her way is considered "fair game".
She swaps between these two personalities at the drop of a hat, and doesn't seem to care if people have seen both sides of her. As long as they aren't her target, people are free to think whatever they want about her.
History[]
Not much is known about Gale's earlier life. Thanks to Dr. Starline wiping her memories, her past remains a mystery even to her. She does, however, remember the objective that he intended to give her. Her role in Operation: Remaster was to invade the Sol Dimension, and she was to remain there until she recovered the Jeweled Scepter. This was a particularly ambitious mission; Blaze was no slouch, and since Surge and Kitsunami weren't even a thought at the time, Gale would be doing this alone. He did, however, cybernetically modify the lynx using Power Cores and the imperfect bio-data of Blaze, Rouge, and an unknown third party. She was given the power to summon razor-sharp winds that could cut through steel.
...And the first thing that she did with her new powers was to attack the person that gave them to her. She completely wrecked the platypus's lab while chasing after him, and was dangerously close to killing him several times. Starline quickly realized that Gale was a lost cause, and was forced to teleport her away to a random location. This location happened to be streets of Central City, where she was left to wander with her broken mind.
Lost without a purpose the lynx struggled to survive, feeding on scraps of food left behind. If she was lucky, someone might take pity on her and give her a free meal, but given her disheveled appearance this didn't happen very often. Eventually Gale wandered off into the back alleys, where she discovered a dark world in the city's underbelly. This is where the city's drug empire thrived, and the main export was a narcotic known as Black Rose; a cocaine-based substance laced with Seithr and several other ingredients, giving the drug its black coloration.
People who wandered back here from the light side typically didn't make it back out, as Gale witnessed herself when a woman was stabbed to death by an addict just for her wallet. Although Gale seemed to be unfazed by the woman being murdered, she followed the addict back where he came from. When she had the opportunity, she stabbed him twenty eight times with his own knife, not even bothering to use her powers to kill him. To make him suffer for the crime that he committed, she felt... satisfied.
This is where Gale made her home, actively preying on the scum that tainted Central City's underside. After the bodies began piling up, the people who lived here started looking over their shoulder more often, lest they join the pile themselves. Gale wasn't a hero, nor was she even a vigilante... she was an equalizer.
Eventually Gale's reign of terror came to an end as she was arrested by the Central City Police Department. When her time was up, she didn't resist. Although her killings were justified, she knew that what she did was still wrong. At the end of her trial, she was given the death sentence. They disabled her aerokinesis, and locked her up in an isolated cell on death row. On the day before her execution, they gave her one last chance to speak with her parents, who they were able to find through DNA testing. Although she couldn't have been able to recognize them, she still felt extreme anguish from the thought that this would be the last time that they would see their daughter alive. It was enough to enkindle her Eikon, and after the meeting concluded they found her crystallized from the effect of the Aspect Phenomenon.
After Gale's "condition" reached headline news, an OmegaCorp executive traveled to Central City with a proposal for the President of the United Federation. OmegaCorp would be willing to pay a hefty sum of money for Gale's pardon, under the condition she would be kept "under control". As shady as this sounded, OmegaCorp had more knowledge on the Aspect Phenomenon than the government, and after much debate OmegaCorp was eventually allowed to leave with the crystallized lynx. Once Gale emerged from her crystal stasis, OmegaCorp offered her a new life as an Operator. As an Operator she would be free to continue hunting the condemned, without any interference from the law. Of course Gale accepted their terms, but she had her own goals in mind. There were two things that she needed to do before she would finally be satisfied: She needed to piece together the broken parts of her past, and she needed to cut down the person that ruined it.
Powers[]
Fear Siphon - Gale has an aura that passively feeds off of the fear of those around her, mentally crippling her target and empowering her attacks. She can choose to spend the power gained by this aura into one powerful, focused attack, either executing or severely wounding the target, while also recovering her own health.
Endless Nightmare - Gale's Overdrive. The effects of Fear Siphon are intensified, and will also passively drain the target's health while in close proximity. While active, Gale can use her most powerful attacks without having to spend the power gained by Fear Siphon.
Techniques[]
Serpent's Infernal Rapture - One of Gale's favorite "amplified" attacks. Though simple in execution, it is effective. She rushes the target, then swings her back leg upwards, dealing critical damage and sending her target skyward.
Serpent's Laceration - Another one of Gale's favorites. She trips the target before rapidly curb-stomping them, ending by kicking them up and then striking them in the chest to send them away.
Song of the World Eater - Gale's Limit Break. In this move, she slashes through her target with both blades, binding them in her chains. She then allows her Eikon to fully manifest, armed with a greatsword of darkness. Her Eikon then slashes several times, charging up on the eighth strike before completely obliterating the target.
Skills[]
Being blessed with the Aspect Phenomenon, Gale possesses impressive physical strength. Although she lacks proper training, she can take an outstanding amount of damage, and give back as much damage as she takes.
Aside from this, she is surprisingly good at sneaking around. This comes in handy when trying to get to her target, assuming she'd prefer to avoid conflict up until then.
Weaknesses[]
Gale prefers to work alone. More often than not, she will never have backup unless she is forced to work with her fellow Arbiters. Although she is an extremely dangerous hunter, she can only do so much by herself.
Trivia[]
- Natalie is heavily inspired by Yūki Terumi from BlazBlue.
