Games[]
The series features 3 games so far. The first, The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Heroes, was launched at January 9, 2011 on 3 different home consoles. The game is mostly remembered for being darker, more serious and epic than the usual Sonic games while retaining some traditional formats. It received very positive reviews from fans and critics alike for its exhilarating gameplay, epic music and profound story, in comparison with the recent Sonic games.
The second installment was launched at September 9, 2011, exactly 8 months after its first installment, on 3 different home consoles. It centered mostly on Sonic's gameplay and introduced several new characters to the series, including the third person shooter gameplay. The game received critical acclaim from critics, as well as fans for its large improvements from its prequel, its gameplay mechanics and its storyline.
The third instalment of the series was announced on August 30, 2014 to be The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Legend of the Golden Epics, which takes place after the events of Sonic Adventure 3: GX and serves as its spiritual successor, as hinted in the game's secret ending. The game retains the dark, mature and epic tone of the series but in terms of gameplay, ist is rather different. It features two types of gameplay. Adventure, which is more or less the same as the first installment's and to that of the upcoming Sonic Boom and Role playing, similar to that of the Final Fantasy series. The game was released internationally in November 21, 2014, coinciding with the European release of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and the American release of Super Smash Bros for the Wii U.
