Voted Best game for Summer 2011! The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Heroes is a fan-made videogame created by Juely and Winduct. It is an action, adventure, platforming, fighting game which tells an epic story of Sonic and his friends battling against a mysterious alien race for the salvation of humanity. It is the first game of The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog series. The game is followed by The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: I Am the Future.

Gameplay[]
Gameplay for The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Heroes draws elements from the Sonic Adventure series and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) but also from Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog with a much wider range of character movements and attacks, some of which are unique to each one. In addition, it incorporates elements of 3-D fighting-style gameplay. You could imagine it loosley as a Super Smash Bros. game in 3D perspective.
Like in most games in the series, basic gameplay involves collecting rings, defeating enemies etc. Like in all games, the player collects rings in order to gain health. If he's attacked by an enemy, he loses 10 rings. When he is attacked while he has no rings, he instantly dies and loses a life. All levels are in 3D. In addition, players can collect pearls by destroying enemies. These pearls can increase the player's Signature Move Gauge. Each stage has 2 Acts (usually 10:00 minutes long each), a Mission and Boss. When the player reaches the Goal Ring, he completes the stage and is given a rank (A, B, C, D, E) based on his Score.
Each character has 8 ground attacks, 4 aerial attacks, a homming attack (some characters may fly or glide instead, see Controls), a Dash and a Signature Move. Like in Sonic Heroes, each character is categorized as Speed, Power or Fly, each type with its unique abilities. Speed-Type characters can use homming attacks, run faster and perform Spin Dashes and Ring Dashes in order to reach other hidden places in each level. Fly-Type characters can fly for a limited time through rings in order to give them enough boost to fly for a higher amount of time and reach other hidden ares in each level, whearas Power-Type characters are often heavy but can deal great damage to an opponent, often lifting heavy items such as cars, boulders etc to reach hidden places. However, some Power-Type and Speed-Type Characters may also use Homming Attacks or glide or some-sort. This categorization has a great significance in the levels' structure. This means that all levels have special routes in some point each designed for a speed, fly or power type character. For example, playing as Sonic in the Cosmic Crisis level, you can choose to take the speed sections of the stage, which rely mostly on the character's speed. Power sections rely on raw battle etc. Nevertheless, some sections of the stages are common for all types.
The game features a wide variety of gaming modes, each one with its own gameplay style. These modes are Adventure Mode (or Story Mode), Multiplayer Mode, Challenge Mode, Mission Mode, Chao Garden, Gallery, Rankings and Options. (For more information about each one, see it below).

Each playable character has 9 ground attacks, 6 aerial attacks, a Dash Attack and a Signature Move. Speed-Type characters can use Homming Attacks, Light Dash and Triangle Jumps and are usually faster than any other character. Fly-Type characters can fly, glide of float for a limited time period. Some of them can also perform Homming Attacks. Power-Type characters are usually the slowest in the game but their attacks deal much more damage than any other characters. Some of them can float or glide or even perform homming attacks.
Basic Attacks[]
Combo Attack - The character performs multiple attacks in one move which deal little damage. It is the basic attack of all characters. The player can also move while combo attacking.
Advantage Move - Each character performs a single attack which deals bigger damage than Combo Attack.
Chargable Attack - Holding down that button will allow the character to charge up an attack. When released, the character will perform that attack which deals a lot of damage. The player cannot move while performing Chargable attack. However, some characters may have more than 1 Chargable Attack.
Special Attack - If the player presses Chargable Attack while running, he will perform the Special Attack.
Multi-Attacks[]
By pressing the R1, RB or R button while the character performs an attack, the player will have access to another total new moveset of attacks. These attacks are equaly powerful to the other ones. Moreover, some of these attacks may require some charge up before activating them. Combo Attacks, Advantage Moves, Special Attacks and Chargable Attacks have their own identical Multi-Attack attacks.
Techniques[]
Homing Attack - This classic technique is only accessable to some characters. Simply press the jump button twice near an enemy and the character will perfrom a homing attack on him.
Light Dash - Accessable only to Speed-Type characters. When going in front of a line of rings, press the Combo Button to perform a Light Dash, just like in all Sonic games.
Triangle Jump - All characters can perform this action. When there are two narrow walls, the character can jump from wall to wall by pressing the jump button twice.
Flying - Some characters, not only Fly-Type, can ascend into the air. Just tap the Jump Button multiple times and the player will ascend into the air. You can also pass through air boosts in order to fly higher and faster.
Gliding - A few characters can glide. Just hold down the jump button while on the air.
Floating - A character can also float. Works exactly like the gliding technique.
Lifting Objects - Only Power-Type characters (and Shadow) can lift heavy objects such as cars, platforms etc and even throw them on nearby enemies.
Climbing - Some characters can climb walls. Just go near a wall and the character will start climbing.
Signature Move[]
Signature Moves are very powerful attacks that are unique to every character. They can be performed on Adventure Mode and Multiplayer Mode only. Signature Moves are represented as gauges on the screen and can be filled by by collecting pearls. Each character has his own Signature Move. They are listed below.

| Gamma | Electro Field | Gamma releases 4 large cables which are attached to the ground and form a spacey cube. Gamma then charges electricity and burns anything inside that cube. |
| Metal Sonic | Metalic Madness | Metal Sonic makes multiple copies of himself which fade out and damages anything near him. After he has enough copies, the copies slash the screen with their claws, causing a large scratch on the camera. |
| Mighty | Mighty Quake | Mighty jumps high up in the air. He then spin dashes on the ground causing a huge earthquake to erupt. |
| Dr. Eggman | Bombardment | Eggman summons his Egg Fleet and bombards the entire field with nuclear bombs and missiles. |

Boss Battles[]
In this mode, up to 2 players can battle Boss they've unlocked by playing Story Mode (Adventure Mode). There is 1 Boss per stage in the game (with some exceptions). Each Boss has a Life Guage beneath it. When the player manages to reduce its Life Guage to 0, the Boss is defeated.

Modes[]
The game contains 8 modes. Each one of them is explained below.
Adventure Mode[]
In Adventure Mode (or Story Mode), the player plays stages and Boss Battles in an exact order and learns how the whole Story began (See Detailed Story). When the player selects Adventure Mode, a large map appears with all the locations he/she has unlocked and plays a specific stage. When he/she completes that stage, he moves ahead to the next one.In Adventure Mode the player unlocks characters, stages, Boss Battles, cutscenes, concept arts and even entire Modes!. It is the main Mode of the game. Up to 2 players can participate in Adventure Mode at the same time.
Multiplayer Mode[]
Multiplayer Mode greatly differs from Adventure Mode. While up to 2 players can play, both players face each other off in 3-D fighting-like style gameplay (similar to Marvel Nemesis). The levels here are not like in Adventure Mode, but are redesigned to be more like a fightining arena where 2 players can fight. There are no rings here. However, each player has a Life Gauge beneath him. The player who will decrease his opponent's Life Gauge to 0 first, wins. The controls and the gameplay are the same.
Challenge Mode[]
Unlike the other modes in the game, only 1 player can participate in Challenge Mode. The player first chooses a character he/she desires. He is then placed on a board in which he/she battles specific opponents until he/she reaches the final battle. There are a total of 7 levels. These levels are Beginners, Intermediates, Semi-Pros', Pros', Advanced, Experts and Master. The player starts from level one and has the opportunity to choose between 4 opponents. When he/she defeats all opponents in this level, he/she moves to level 2 and so on. As the player moves 1 level ahead, things get more dificult. When he/she defeats all opponents in the game, the player receives multiple prizes such as rings, playable characters, levels and available items for the Chao Garden. When a player faces off against the character he/she has already chosen, that opponent is replaced by Emerl who uses the exact same moveset as its opponent's. Mission Mode[]
In Mission Mode, up to 2 players simultaniously can play various Missions with a specific character each. There are a total of 240 Missions, 6 in each level, 3 in each Act (except the Blue Typhoon which has only 3). Missions include destroying particular items, activating others, defeating enemies, racing to the Goal ring, finding hidden items etc. Some of the Missions in Mission Mode have to be unlocked by achieving the previous missions. When all 243 missions are completed, the player is awarded various prizes. Note that Missions in Mission Mode are not ranked and that the design in the levels might change from that of Adventure Mode.

Here, you can view various bonus items you have unlocked. These are Concept Arts, Music, Cutscenes, Costumes, Archieves, Chao Garden Items you have collected and Emblems you have collected.
Concept Arts[]
Here, you can view all of the game's artworks you have unlocked. These Concept Arts feature level designs, character arts, and multiple other concept arts during the making of the game. They can be unlocked by getting A rankings in levels and Bosses.
Music[]
Here, you can listen to in-game music. These include Stage music, Boss music, Event Music and others. In addition, each playable character has his own Theme which can be unlocked by unlocking the specific characters. In-game music is unlocked when completing the stage, event or Boss.
The game's in-game music was composed by Crush 40. Multiple other bands composed songs for all playable characters. Steve Jablonsky also worked for the tracks during the cinematic cutscenes. The game's main theme song is Take Me Away by Globus.

Each playable character has his own costume which can be unlocked by completing Challenge Mode with a specific character. These costumes can be put on the character and wear them during gameplay instead of their defeault ones. Here is a list of every character's costume.

The rank depends on the player's Score. These ranks are A, B, C, D, E. Only Action stages and Bosses are ranked, excluding those of Final Story. Mission Mode nor Challenge Mode are ranked.

Deleted Scenes[]
There are various deleted scenes which did not make it in the final version of the game. However, the player can unlock them all and view them in the Gallery. Deleted Scenes can be unlocked by completing Challenge Mode with specific characters or getting A Rankings in levels.

Trivia[]
- When the Heroes arrive at the Space Colony ARK in the Blue Typhoon, Vector and Charmy are seen playing Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
- This is the first game that features Fang the Sniper as a playable character after 15 years. It also features Mighty the Armadillo as a playable character after 16 years.
- In the game, E-10000G and E-10000R take the role of Docoe and Bocoe.
- When Immarius fires the Eclipse Cannon with the 2 Chaos Emeralds, the laser is colored red instead of green. This might be caused due to the negative energy of Immarius.
- Bean the Dynamite, Bark the Polar Bear, Monkey Khan and two newcomers Frost the Hedgehog and Baxter the Ram where originally planned to appear in the game as playable characters. However, they where removed in the final version of the game. Still, Bean, Bark and Monkey Khan all make cameo in Sonic's vision as ones who have helped him in his lifetime advetures.
- Dr. Eggman is always inside his mech, the "Egg Drone" when playable in any level. However, in the Chao Garden, he is on foot.
- Every character in the game is 1 year older than he/she actually is. (Sonic is 16, Tails is 9, Knuckles is 17, etc.)
- The courses of the Dark Races are actually Neverhood from The Neverhood.
- The game had received various names during development. The game's first name was Sonic Heroes 2, then changed to Sonic the Hedgehog, then changed again to Sonic the Hedgehog: Legion of Heroes and ultimately received its current name The Chronicles of Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Heroes.
- In the final story, it is revealed that Cheese is actually Chaos!
- In the cutscene where Fang is trying to shoot at Sonic, when he runns out of ammoes, Fang yells "Shit!".
- Since the game cannot be played with a Wii Remote nor a nunchuck, the Wii version of the game comes with a packet with a classic controler in it.
- This game features many old voice actors. Sonic is voiced once again by Ryan Drummond after 6 years.
