Eclipse the Darkling is the main antagonist in Shadow the Hedgehog 2: Rise. He is a super soldier in the Black Arms alien species and was created by the Black Arms around the same time as Shadow. After the defeat of Black Doom in Shadow the Hedgehog, Eclipse located the last remaining Colony of Black Arms and led them in a series of attempts to kidnap Faith the Hedgehog for an as-of-yet unknown purpose, which forms the main plot of Rise.
Powers and Abilities[]
Eclipse has similar powers to Shadow, such as the Chaos Control, Chaos Spear, and Chaos Blast, and possess great intelligence. He can also communicate through the Black Arm hive mind, and can block, or at the very least, weaken Shadow's Chaos abilities.
As the de facto ruler of the Colony, he has access to a creature similar to Doom's Eye, except this particular Doom's Eye is how he controls the Black Arms. He can use this Doom's Eye to attack other Black Arms (specifically, Shadow) with hallucinations, and when he merges with it, he gains access to a wider range of abilities.
Eclipse is an agile, skilled, and powerful fighter, being able to subdue Shadow in almost every encounter with him, and is very skilled enough with his twin Black Swords to knock weapons out of Shadow's hands.

- Eclipse debuted in the Archie published comic book series, Sonic Universe, making him the only established character in Rise to have debuted outside the main game series.
