Cryosteel is an alloy that is created by mixing iron and gelidium together. However, cryosteel is notorious for being difficult to create; gelidium is immensely fickle and needs to be prepared perfectly, or else the result will be nigh useless, often fracturing or shattering with ease. As a result, genuine cryosteel weaponry and shields are astronomically expensive and rare.

Description

Visually, cryosteel is very similar to iron, but has a distinctive, pale blue coloration to it. Cryosteel is almost always cool to the touch.

Usage

Weaponry

Cryosteel is primarily used to make bladed weapons, such as swords, polearms and axes; cryosteel weapons bear the considerable sharpness that gelidium-edged weapons have, with the durability of steel.

A notable example of cryosteel-forged weaponry are the Blizzblades.

Shields

Cryosteel has also been used to create shields. These shields are roughly the same as a typical iron shield in terms of defensive strength, but have the added benefit of being able to deflect weak, Ice-based attacks from opponents. Cryosteel shields are often decorated with frontal spikes, to serve as a secondary offensive option for the user.

Special Properties

Cryosteel carries over the latent sub-alignment of Ice that gelidium has. The blades of weapons forged with cryosteel are always cold to the touch, and a user who can already manipulate Ice can easily channel their own elemental energy through the blade; as such, Ice-aligned attacks made directly with the blade, such as Freezing Slash, are strengthened by roughly 20%.

Related Materials

  • Gelidium - An uncommon ore that is often used to coat the edges of bladed weapons to give them a considerably sharper edge. However, gelidium-edged weapons are notoriously difficult to maintain, as they are not only fragile, but the gelidium in them can be corroded by excessive heat. Cryosteel was developed to be a better alternative to gelidium-edged weapons, but no one counted on cryosteel being even harder to create than gelidium-edged weapons.

Users

Anyone who uses cryosteel in any form, for any use.

Notes/Trivia

  • Cryosteel is, obviously, a portmanteau of cryo and steel.
