The gameplay of the game is very similar to its previous installments. The purpose of the game is to pick up customers and take them to their chosen destination as quickly as possible. While taking the customer to his chosen destination, the player can gather more money by performing different stunts, drifting, breaking objects, driving very close to other vehicles etc. The player is guided by the green arrow which points to the general location of the destination, exactly as in the previous Crazy Taxi games. When the player reaches the destination he/she must stop in a specific zone which is marked in green. The customer's fare is added to the players total money earned. When the player pick up a customer he/she has a time limit. If he fails to reac the destination on time, the customer jumps out of the taxi. Unlike the first Crazy Taxi released in 1999, in this game the player can pick up up to 3 customers and take them to their destination one by one. However, that feature does not work like in Crazy Taxi 2 where the player picks up 3 customers from the same location. In this game the player can pick up customers while having another one inside.
The game features three, five, ten and fifteen minute settings. In the limited time settings the player plays until the time stops. The game also features the traditional Arcade rules where the player begins with a limited time but can extend it by picking up costumers and getting bonuses. Unlike the previous installments, Crazy Taxi 2011 does not have minigames.
The game has many notable differences from its predecessors. For starters, the player can pick up more than one costumer from a different location than another and take him to his chosen destination. Another difference is that when the player crashes on small objects that break such as telephone booths, craters, post boxes etc. the customer gets excited and gives bonus to the player instead of yelling at him (except vehicles). Unlike the previous installments, this game has a day and night time feature. The game also has traffic lights and more signs.
The game features a total of 5 drivers each with his/her own unique taxi. One racer is unlocked by using a cheat code. Two of the racers have appeared in previous installments of the game. Gus (a driver from the first Crazy Taxi game) is now retired and appears as a customer.
Axel - The character from the first game of the series, Axel is a 20-something dude with notable spiky green hair, a hawaian shirt, brown shorts with a belt, red shoes and yellow gloves. Axel's taxi is ideal for beginners.

Joe wears a funky coloured hat, wears a blue shirt with white sleeves, red pants and red boots. He also weras his famous blue sunglasses and always has a smile on his face.
Ashley - A newcomer to the series, Ashley is a 19-year old girl with short black dyed hair, tattoos in her arms, earings and a nose ring to make her look like a punk. She wears a yellow t-shirt, jeans and vans shoes.
J. C. Anderson - Anderson is a 32-year old from USA. He has long hair and always wears black glasses. He is dressed in a hawaian shirt with a tie, wears treed trousers and sandals. He appears to be the most calm of all racers and before he starts to drive he appears to be smoking. His appereance is similar to that of Ozzy Osbourne.
Fat Jack - Although his real name is unknown, Fat Jack is a severely obese 28-year old with short spiky blonde hair. He wair a white white shirt, short jeans with supenders and wears paratrooper boots. Before he starts the taxi he is seen eating a hot dog and often while driving, jokes about stopping for a hot dog.
Sonic the Hedgehog - Sonic himself available through a cheat code. He wears... well, his typical outfit which consists of red shoes and white gloves. Sonic's taxi is the fastest and has the best acceleration.
The game features many new maps awsell as the two old ones from the first game; the Arcade map and the Original map which resemble San Francisco. The two old maps have been slightly remodeled, with better quality, better sound and more and new routes for the player to explore.
In addition to the two old ones, the game also has 3 new maps, one bigger than the other. All maps are fictional but resemble states from USA such as Los Angeles. These new maps have new stores and places such as Starbucks Coffee Shop, Zara, Ikea etc. Inside the maps there are multiple references to the Sonic universe such as billboards, films, roads etc.
The game also features a day and night time system. This means that both the weather and the time changes throughout the game. The player can start driving at night and finish in the morning while raining.
