Classic Sonic is a classic / alternate universe version of Sonic the Hedgehog. Unlike Modern Sonic, however, Classic Sonic is much shorter and somewhat chubbier than his modern self.
His overall appearance is the same as the original Sonic, as well as his attire, except he is shorter than him, has black eyes with white irises instead of the actual green color for the eyes and is somewhat chubby.
Classic Sonic is, to put it that way, very happy, energetic, and overly-friendly, which would explain his true colors after his sudden appearance. To Modern Sonic, however, he refers to him as an "overly happy-go-lucky son of a speed", seeing as how he takes an extreme dislike towards him. However, Classic Sonic always keeps his positive mood, anytime and anywhere, even if it means being insulted, mostly by Modern Sonic. It's almost impossible to make him angry, no matter how harsh the insult he takes. He also goes on adventures everyday whenever he wants to, anytime and anywhere. Despite his silent speech, he does make up for silly gestures and keeping his positive mood, albeit Modern Sonic's complete disgust with his Classic self around.
In the Sonic Generations remake, he retains this personality but Modern Sonic (his future self) isn't so coldhearted and indifferent around him, treating him more like a younger brother. He looks forward to seeing him progress, seeing as how he [Modern Sonic] experienced the things Classic Sonic experienced. They also share the same gestures; this is due to being younger and older versions of the same person. When it's time for the younger characters to return to their time, the Modern characters get despondent; however, Sonic wishes Classic Sonic and Amy a "brighter future" and that they'll grow up learning to respect and love each other. This is not exactly the case, however, as Classic Sonic usually ends up being chased around by Amy, which questions Classic Sonic's future.
His abilities are quite different to Modern Sonic. His abilities consist of the Spin Dash, the Super Peel-Out, and the Drop Dash. He also can use the elemental shields. While these abilities are useful, they do not work well against stronger enemies. He can, however, withstand even the most powerful attacks, if he has rings with them, that would prevent Classic Sonic from being killed. If he is hit, however, his body will flash for a brief amount of time, thus making him invincible before his body stops flashing.
He can be defeated easily by enemies if he does not have rings with him. If he gets hit while carrying rings, they would immediately scatter from him after getting hit. The rings would then flash before disappearing while Classic Sonic was re-capturing the rings. If Classic Sonic does not collect any rings at all, then he is wide open for attack, due to the fact that rings are his only self-defense, and that he is unable to defend himself by any means, other than his rings. If Classic Sonic gets attacked by enemies, he would disappear, as if he has lost a life from getting hit.
Likes and Dislikes
- Adventuring (either with Modern Sonic or Classic Tails)
- Defeating Dr. Robotnik
- Classic Amy (he pretends to not be interested in her to hide the fact that he really likes her)
- Adventuring on his own
- Drowning (he is scared that no one will help him get out of the water if he is swimming)
- Dr. Robotnik (at the start of the game, when he is a preschool-aged hedgehog, C. Sonic calls him a "big fat eggy")
- Unknown (due to the fact that he is always happy, he is shown to be afraid almost nothing)
- Drowning (see above)
- Nyctophobia (he can't run in the dark and he is at first scared of monsters)
Film careerSince Classic Sonic hasn't had a job for a while, Machinima has made a new series about this "Sonic for Hire", with Classic Sonic himself. The YouTube series is about Classic Sonic getting hired for all sorts of classic video games. Mario also makes an appearance in some episodes as the boss of a mafia. Tails is also found in this series, too.
Classic Sonic was in the Sonic OVA as the main character who had to fight Metal Sonic that was created by Dr. Eggman (who played the role as Dr. Robotnik). Classic Tails and Classic Knuckles (WITH A HAT) are also in the movie.
Video Game Career
Of course, Classic Sonic was in the game Sonic the Hedgehog and the 2nd one, too. But, SEGA gave him another appearance as a playable character in the game: Sonic Generations, along with Modern Sonic to celebrate Sonic's 20th anniversary. Despite Modern Sonic's complete disgust about Classic Sonic's shenanigans by making silly gestures during the career, Modern Sonic is forced to team up with him anyway, seeing as how SEGA needs the duo to team up in order for them to become greatest stars for their upcoming game.
Relationships with Other Characters
The modern version of himself, Modern Sonic is not only distraught, but also very angry, disappointed and annoyed not only by poor sales of his new games, but also Classic Sonic's constant happiness and continuous bragging rights about his classic games. Even if Modern Sonic would kill his classic self, Modern Sonic would just end up being erased from history upon doing so.
In the remake of Sonic Generations, Classic Sonic is treated much like a younger brother to Modern Sonic, sometimes even his own child. He is very kind and sociable around him, Classic Amy, Classic Tails and Classic Knuckles. In the end, Modern Sonic wishes his younger self a brighter future with Classic Amy.
During a cutscene in which the Time Eater is stopped for a while, the gang decides to spend the night in a (rather large) thatched hut in the Green Hill Zone. When night falls, Sonic reads C. Sonic and C. Amy a bedtime story, The Legend of the Crystal Sword (an obvious reference to Sailor Moon and Sonic and the Black Knight). The story makes the two heavy-eyed with sleep, but Sonic sings the two a lullaby to make them travel to the Dream World completely. As he is getting ready to sleep himself, Modern Amy whispers a kind remark that Sonic is "very good with children" (a reference to how he has taken care of Tails).
This, however, is entirely different during the Sonic-Sonic Conflict. The Modern version despises his Classic self due to being overly silly and annoyance whenever his Classic self follows his Modern self around.
Due to being the same age as Classic Amy (3 to 8 years old), Classic Amy is in love with Classic Sonic just as Modern Amy is in love with Modern Sonic. However, he pretends to show disinterest in her (he really does like her) because he is very shy around girls. He looks up to Modern Amy kind of like an older sister at times, but also views her as a mother figure as well (which she sees as practice for her own future with Modern Sonic). When it's time to return home to their time, Classic Sonic and Amy resolve to love and respect each other so they can have a brighter future together. This might not be the case, however, as Classic Sonic doesn't seem have any interest with Classic Amy as much as Modern Sonic does, since he is more interested in adventures than romance; again, however, he could also be hiding his true feelings for her by pretending to show disinterest, but this is entirely different in the Sonic-Sonic Conflict.
