It wasn't until very recently that the decision was made to make him a foreigner to not only the island, but to the universe Sonic Boom resided in general. Alternate universes were a major element in Sonic X, and Sonic Boom shows that alternate universes from their own exists, so it seemed like a good way to expand on the concept of alternate dimensions and how traveling between them can affect characters in different ways. It serves as a way to show what happened to Chris, and his and Sonic's universe, after the events of Sonic X. Chris' situation here, being stuck in a different and foreign place, is very reminiscent of what Sonic and his friends found themselves in during the events of Sonic X. It is basically Chris learning what Sonic and his friends felt during their time on Earth, and him realizing how he took what he had for granted, and having to deal with his worst fear of ending up alone being realized.

Concept and creation

The idea for a Sonic Boom style Chris came about when the Sonic Boom designs for Sonic, his friends, and Eggman were first revealed, and everyone and their mother were making Sonic Boom styled redesigns for other characters in the franchise. The concept sat around with no exact, with varying ideas changing on what to use him for. Originally he was going to be a relative of Sonic Boom incarnation of Eggman, but it was eventually scrapped.(He and Boom!Eggman still eventually form a father-son like bond, however.)

His redesign was done largely as an amalgamation of his design as a child and his design as an adult, wanting the challenge of keeping him as a child physically, while still having a more mature and sophisticated look. Mostly European influences were used for his wardrobe change, specifically from the Victorian era, while still trying to mix elements from both his child and adult ones. Adding sports tape was avoided as the goal was to have Chris look more like someone who, while clearly coming from a more high class background and a foreigner to the island, is still someone who would not be concerned with his appearance, or lose sleep if his nice fancy clothing or items were damaged.

He technically still does have the same spiky anime hairstyle from Sonic X- he just combs his hair in place in the Boom universe. It's when his hair gets messy is when it resembles his old hairstyle. This is based on personal headcanon that anime spiky anime hair isn't actually spiky, but instead just really fluffy and not taken care of as much.

There weren't major changes to his personality, as his more “normal” type of behavior would actually provide the juxtaposition against the more wacky or exaggerated Boom counterparts. This was done to serve for both comedic and more dramatic purposes.

Appearance

Chris' appearance differs from his original in Sonic X. His hair is shorter, resembling the hairstyle he had when he was physically an adult. His eyes are a more vibrant blue. When it comes to his skin, it is just about the same pigment he had back on Earth.

His attire consists of a red vest adorned with yellow trim, three gold buttons in the front, and a gold rectangular brooch. Attached to the vest is a pad covering his right shoulder and wrapping up around his back and up behind the seam on his left shoulder. Behind the vest are to straps near the bottom that buckle together. Underneath his vest he wears a large turtleneck sweater, with oversized puffy sleeves, and an oversized collar covering his neck and half of his shoulders. For pants he wears black breeches going down to just above his ankles, and a brown belt around his waist with a pouch attached to it and hanging off his left side. His footwear consists of black shoes with a light blue rim and tongue, and a yellow buckled strap running across the front. Under his shoes he wears white stockings reminiscent to old Victorians.

Personality

Meek and very polite, though sometimes he can be clingy. He was brought up to be "proper" and more "sophisticated" and it reflects in his manners, and the way he dresses and eats. He tries his best not to offend others and avoid confrontations, though if he legitimately doesn't like someone then he won't fully hide it. For most of the part he tries to be selfless and do the right thing, but like every person, he will act on his own selfish needs without realizing it right away.
