History[]
Chaos emeralds are a natural phenomenon that occurs whenever a rock is formed with chaos magma, electromagnetic magma composed of molten gold, copper, lodestone, and other electrically conductive minerals; not every planet has natural chaos magma. The most common rocks formed out of chaos magma are the chaos emeralds, although there have been records of ancient Xorda using non-emerald chaos objects. The first record of a chaos emerald being used was in early medieval Mobius, during Gsher Qolexnidee Ortivecit Dieben (The Sacred Crystal Disaster); one of the Xordan scientists failed to properly contain a green chaos emerald, and it absorbed it's canister, became supercharged, and initiated the largest chaos blast known to Mobias. In result, a third of the supercontinent Yriz was reduced to a massive crater that took two and a half centuries for the oceans to completely fill it up. The crater is known as Jyos Nusin ("Our Bad"). Since then, chaos emeralds were outlawed among Mobias, as they were extremely dangerous and no safer versions of them existed. Upon the Xorda's temporary departure from Mobias, Je'Gaizsheniks issued an order to bring every single emerald they can find with them, and succeeded in obtaining all but seven, which Sonic and Dr. Eggman will rediscover in the future. Later, after the Great War, Tails developed and patented a process to develop more domesticated chaos emeralds to be used as an energy source, known as the "Prower Process". The emeralds would then be used as an alternative to nuclear energy and Eggman's rings.
