Epilogue: The Decision

G.U.N HQ, Central City, United Federation - November 4th 2013, 12:25PM

It was midday and for most of the people working at G.U.N Headquarters, that meant it was time to eat. An orderly queue began to quickly form in and around the edge of the Mess Hall. The room was big. Tables and chairs were dotted evenly throughout the room, each below a light, to allow them to see their food. In a little nook near the back of the room was a small lounge area with a pool table and two slot machines. On a wall in near the centre of the room was a 32-inch television, which was switched to one of many news channels. Directly opposite was the kitchen where the cooks were making the current meal of the day, which was chicken breast, mashed potato, peas and a yoghurt pot for desert.

Katherine could be seen eating alone at one of the tables directly in front of the television. She'd finished all of her food, except her yoghurt, which she slowly swirled her spoon around in. Walking towards her table, was a young man in off-duty G.U.N uniform. He held a tablet and had a wireless earpiece placed securely on his left ear.

"Private Katherine Treske?" he asked, causing the cat to jolt her head up and leave her desert.

"Yes?" she asked back.

"Agent Lawson would like to see you in his office as soon as possible, ma'am," he stated politely.

"Oh," she said, looking back down at her yoghurt. Time to get ripped to shreds...

The young soldier standing in front of her was confused as to why she was staring at her food.

"Uh, ma'am? You okay?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Katherine jolted her head back up again and replied, "U-uh, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. Tell him I'll be there in the next few minutes."

"Will do, ma'am," he replied, turning around and walking off once more. As he walked off, he could be seen raising his hand towards his earpiece and beginning to talk.

Shortly after, Katherine stood up, picked up her tray and walked over to the nearest bin, disposing of the trays contents, including the untouched yoghurt. She placed the tray on top of a stack on top of the bin and left to go and speak to her superior.

She was scared. Katherine didn't know what he was going to say. Her outburst during the mission would've left a big imprint in his mind. She knocked on the wooden door. A plaque drilled onto the door read "J. Lawson, Agent, S.I.D". She heard a voice say "come in" and she opened the door. Sat at a desk in front of her, was the person she was so nervous to see.

"Private Treske. Good to see you again," Agent Lawson said, though it was somewhat forced.

"Same to you, sir," the cat replied, saluting.

"Have a seat," the wolf insisted, gesturing his head towards a chair on Katherine's side of his desk.

The cat pulled the chair out from underneath the desk a bit and sat down. There was a moment of awkward silence before Lawson spoke again.

"Today, we're going to talk about your place here at G.U.N," he said, leaning back in his chair slightly.

Katherine swallowed nervously. I'm getting fired, she thought.

"Based on your report and your performance on the previous mission, the board over at S.I.D and at HQ have come to a decision," the wolf continued, sitting up once more.

Katherine was getting even more nervous now, clasping her hands together on her lap. Although, she did manage to make her face look calm and collected.

"Effective immediately, you've been promoted to Field Agent," Lawson said, forcing his words out of his mouth again.

Katherine let out a very quiet sigh of relief and said, "Thank you, sir."

"Hm. Well, as a Field Agent, you will be working alone for the majority of the time, using your hacking skills, strength and speed to complete your objectives," the wolf stated, leaning back in his chair again.

"Understood, sir," Katherine replied, looking a lot more relaxed now, This is going a lot better than I expected.

"You are dismissed, Agent," Lawson ordered.

Katherine then stood up and walked towards the door. As she placed her hand on the brass door handle to make her way out, Lawson said one final thing.

"Keep in mind that if I was the head of the board, I would have considered you for a court martial, rather than a promotion, Treske," he said.

Katherine turned around, "Excuse me, sir?"

"What you said to me during that mission was completely disrespectful and unacceptable. You had no right to question me," he said, flatly.

"Understood, sir. It won't happen again," she replied, saluting him.

"You may leave now, Agent Treske," the wolf said, turning to the computer that he sat in front of.

Katherine left the office and sighed. She then turned and began walking down the busy hallway. As she traveled to her quarters, she began thinking about what she would've said to Lawson.

I meant everything I said, Lawson. You killed someone that was left defenseless. You are a coldblooded killer. You aim to get the job done in the quickest and easiest way possible. If I were to choose anyone to get court martialled, it'd be you, Agent Lawson.
