Before you ask, I was not intoxicated while I came up with this idea. I was merely under the influence...of my ever-expanding ego.
Awhile ago, we got rid of the construction template (it prevented sub-standard pages from getting marked immediately upon creation, giving them a grace period in which the creators could make their articles meet standards before someone could make the pages again) entirely in order to both help speed up the cleanup period and discourage laziness. Let's be honest with ourselves, though: We don't need to be cleaning up this wiki anymore. That's done. Finished. Mission accomplished. Our focus now is on attracting more users to our wiki, but who wants to be on a site where their articles immediately get marked upon creation?
To put it bluntly, it's to our ultimate benefit (no matter how backwards bringing it back may seem to some of you) to reinstate the construction template. However, I do not want to simply bring back the same exact template as before and allow laziness to run amok us once more. What we need is a NEW AND IMPROVED CONSTRUCTION TEMPLATE 2.0!
This template will have some improvements from its predecessor that include the following:
- First of all, if it is observed that the user has not been making constructive edits to the page in question (making 0 edits in X days since the template was placed), then the template will be removed early.
- (I think multiple types of construction templates may need to be created for this part) Depending on how close the page is to meeting standards upon being created, articles will be given a specific grace period (the closer it was to meeting standards, the less time it gets)
Let me know what you think of this idea.
