Black Doom (ブラック・ドゥーム Burakku Dūmu^?) is a member and leader of the alien race known as the Black Arms. He is the biological father of Shadow the Hedgehog, and serves as the primary antagonist of Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), in which he and his race invade Earth in search of the Chaos Emeralds to enslave the human race. As the Eclipse Cannon blows up the Black Comet, he supposedly meets his end, but he is set to return as the main antagonist in Shadow Generations.

History

Visiting the Space Colony ARK (50 Years Before Shadow the Hedgehog)

During Project Shadow's development, the Black Comet passes by Earth, as it does every 50 years. A desperate Professor Gerald Robotnik meets with Black Doom on the Space Colony ARK and exchanges Black Doom's blood/DNA for the seven Chaos Emeralds during the Black Comet's next passing of Earth. In reality, Gerald hopes to betray Black Doom and use the Eclipse Cannon to blow up the Comet when it passes by again.

Shadow the Hedgehog is successfully created as a result of Black Doom's DNA.

Shadow the Hedgehog (game)

50 years after the promise was made, Black Doom tells Shadow to go collect the seven Chaos Emeralds and bring them to him aboard the Black Comet. Shadow proceeds to collect the Emeralds, although whether or not he did it for Black Doom is up to the player. In the Last Story segment, Black Doom steals the Chaos Emeralds and uses them to Chaos Control the Black Comet onto the surface of the Earth, releasing a paralyzing gas throughout the surface of the planet. After receiving a message from Gerald and Maria Robotnik, Shadow takes the Chaos Emeralds back and transforms into Super Shadow to fight Devil Doom, the true form of Black Doom. After the latter's defeat, Super Shadow Chaos Controls the Black Comet into the line of fire of the Eclipse Cannon, which blasts the Comet to smithereens. Black Doom and the Black Arms are now presumed to be extinct.

Shadow Generations

Black Doom is set to make his return as the main antagonist of Shadow Generations. He is likely related to the game's new Doom Powers. Not much can be said on this topic at this time, as the game has not yet released as of writing.

Trivia

• The voice actor for Black Doom in Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), Sean Schemmel, is also the voice actor for Goku from Dragon Ball Z.
  • According to Schemmel on X/Twitter, he auditioned for Black Doom in Shadow Generations, but did not get the part.
