"Beginnings" is the first episode of the AngieYaz/RoseOfSharon reboot of the Sonic Underground television series and the first of three episodes in the "Origins" miniseries.

Plot

Sonic and his siblings walking with their mother Aleena into the royal palace in the Oracle's vision. They are going to meet up with their father.

Aleena crying because she and her husband don't want to leave their beloved children.

This episode explains the origin of Sonic and his siblings and how they banded together to reunite with their mother and father. Queen Aleena tells the story of how Dr. Robotnik took over planet Mobius and how she and her husband Jules had to give up their three children–Sonic, Sonia, and Manic–to fulfill a prophecy that one day the siblings will be able to rise against Robotnik's rule, reunite with their family and restore peace to the planet. This episode also shows where Sonic, Manic, and Sonia end up living. Sonia and Sonic are left on Lord and Lady Windermere's doorstep. Later they end up getting roboticized, forcing Sonic and his siblings to live with Uncle Chuck, who was raising Manic. The Hedgehogs see their guardians roboticized, and discover more about their mother and father.

Aleena: Sonic, Sonia and Manic! What? No, don't be silly, of course we'll be back in the palace in a few hours!

[In the waiting room, Uncle Chuck, Lord Frederick and Lady Talisa are all waiting. Chuck is holding a chili dog on a plate, and is just about to eat it, and Talisa is reading from a NEW PARENT magazine, with a diaper advertisement on the back cover. She takes some of the chili off of Chuck's chili dog with her finger and licks it.. She stands up when she sees Aleena, Jules, the Nurse, Mayor Whinniham, and of course, the newborn Sonic, Sonia and Manic.]

Talisa: Oh, Aleena, they're beautiful!

Frederick: I'll say. Firstborn's got my eyes.

[The newborn Sonic looks up at the chili dog, and coos as he reaches for it. Chuck pulls it away from him.]

Chuck: No! You're too little to have a chili dog! Ha ha ha ha!

[Upon hearing this, the newborn Sonic cries.]

Sonic learning to rev.

[Jules is trying to get the one-year old Sonic to walk to him.]

Jules: Come to Daddy! Come to Daddy!

[Baby Sonic coos as he tries to walk to Jules, then trips and lands on his bottom.]

Jules: Oh, that's okay, try again, son!

[Baby Sonic stands up, and coos as he tries to walk to Jules, then he grunts as he trips and lands on his bottom again. Chuck walks in, carrying a plate of chili dogs, and Aleena and Argus are not far behind.]

Aleena: Any luck, darling?

Jules: Nah, I think he's still too little to rev on his own.

Chuck: I have an idea!

[Chuck sets the plate of chili dogs down on the table next to him. Taking a needle filled with vitamins and minerals, he injects the vitamins into the chili dogs, increasing their health benefits. Baby Sonic, having seen the chili dogs on the plate, stands up and walks towards it without tripping.]

Aleena: Jules, get the camera! Sonic's walking!

[Jules gasps in delight upon seeing Baby Sonic walk. Baby Sonic coos as he walks towards the plate of chili dogs faster. Jules snaps a photo with his camera.]

Jules: Congrats, son! You can rev now!

[Baby Sonic coos as he reaches for the plate of chili dogs over his father's shoulder.]

Jules: Okay, son, you can have one.

[Baby Sonic coos as he shoves a chili dog from the plate into his mouth and eats it. Jules and Aleena watch Baby Sonic as he eats the chili dog.]

Aleena: Great job, brother. Your idea worked!

[The screen changes to the Windermere Estate. Jules and Aleena are on a monitor; they are in hiding. At the estate, Baby Sonic and Sonia are in high chairs.]

Aleena: Come on, Sonia, sweetie. Say 'Mo-ther'!

[Baby Sonic turns to face Jules.]

Jules: Say 'Father', Sonic. 'Fa-ther'!

Baby Sonic: Chili-dog!

Aleena, Jules: What?

Lady Windermere: What?

Baby Sonic: Chili-dog!

[Baby Sonic pounds his fists on the tray of his high chair.]

Baby Sonic: Chili dog! Chili dog! Chil...

[The camera moves up to Jules and Aleena, who look at each other in confusion. Baby Sonia does the same thing.]

Baby Sonic and Manic snoring away, having been put to sleep by their beloved father, Jules.

Aleena (narrating): There was a time when Robotropolis was beautiful. It was then a peaceful city known as "Mobotropolis". But just a year after the children were born, the evil Doctor Robotnik used his technology... to turn our world...

Robotnik: [snickers]

[Scene fades into the royal family in a secret chamber within the palace. Jules is vocalizing "Rock-a-Bye Baby" and rocking a cradle back and forth. Inside the cradle are Sonic and Manic, tucked in tight and their eyelids beginning to droop. A foot away, his queen, Aleena, is bottle-feeding their daughter Sonia.]

Aleena (narrating): ...into a place of terror. As the source of Robotnik's money, the aristocrats were left to play, while our people were roboticized... and became slaves. Our royal family was outlawed, a price placed on our heads.

[Manic and Sonic are now fast asleep, their Crystal Brooches glowing brightly.]

Sonic and Manic: [snore]

Aleena (narrating): Then, the Oracle of Delphius revealed the prophecy to us.

[Scene fades into the royal family outside the palace. The baby hedgehogs, wide awake, are in baby baskets made of metal. Aleena is in a turquoise gown and lavender-colored hood, and Jules is in a turquoise hood, deep gold pants and turquoise Tudor-style doublet. The Oracle creates a vision of the three baby hedgehogs, now grown into teenagers, walking with their mother up the stairs of the royal palace to see Jules.]

Oracle: Some day, you will reunite with your children to become the Council of Five... and overthrow Robotnik. But there is a price, Your Highnesses.

Jules: NO! I forbid it!

[He grabs baby Sonic from his basket and holds him close. Sonic coos.]

Jules: I could never afford to lose any of my children! Especially my heir, Sonic!

[The Oracle creates another vision. This time it is of Sonic, now fully grown, being crowned King of Mobius and holding the orb and scepter, a certain pink-quilled female hedgehog being crowned alongside him as Queen.]

Oracle: Your eldest son will one day be crowned King of Mobius, and the planet will have peace, prosperity and music once more. But you have to leave him, Sire.

[Jules begins to shed tears, but finally he gives in.]

Jules: As you wish, Oracle. My queen, it seems we have no choice.

Aleena (narrating): For the prophecy to be fulfilled, we had to give up our babies. But they would be raised in the ways of the royal family as a condition.

Aleena: [sobs] [kisses]

[Sonic cries.]

Jules: Awwwww, my sweet, darling baby boy. Don't cry. Our royal blood flows within you.

["We Are One" plays]

Jules and Aleena: Goodbye.

Windermere: Huh? [sees Sonia and Sonic] [gasps]

Jules and Aleena: Raise him and his sister in the ways of our family.

Windermere: Tannen and I will, Aleena.

Aleena: [sobs] [kisses]

[Manic cries.]

Uncle Chuck: I'll take him.

[Manic sobs.]

Jules and Aleena: Don't cry, little Manic. Our royal blood flows within you. We love you.

Farrell: I could have taken Manic and raised him, Jules.

King Jules: No, old friend. No children of mine will be taught such improper skills like thievery and usury...but here's something you can do.

[King Jules and Queen Aleena are in a secret passageway together. The King is very upset.]

King Jules: (crying) That was...so hard to do!

Queen Aleena: (crying) I miss them so much!

Lord Windermere: Come on, Sonic! Bath time!

Sonic: Awww, not now!

Lord Windermere: Sonic Hedgehog, I thought I said no revving in the house!

Sonic: Rev yes, bath no!

Lord Windermere: Well then, I guess I'll just have to eat all those chili dogs by myself.

Sonic: Rub and scrub time!

Lady Windermere: I'll even give you your cute little seaplane you love so much.

Sonic: Yay!

Lady Windermere: Sonic! Sonia! It's time for your music lessons!

Sonic: Okay! Just let me pause this!

[Lady Windermere, now seated at the piano, begins to play. Sonic starts singing.]

Sonic (singing): Almighty Father, strong to save,

Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,

Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep

Its own appointed limits keep:

O hear us when we cry to thee

For those in peril on the sea.

[Lady Windermere applauds.]

Lady Windermere: Good job, Sonic!

Lord Windermere: Sonic, listen to me. Run as fast as you can to Uncle Chuck's. Don't stop and don't look back!

Sonic: Why? What about you?

Lord Windermere: We'll be okay, Sonic. But you know what I need to see? The biggest rev you've ever done!

Sonic: Really? You want me to rev?

Lord Windermere Sure do, Prince. Let's see it.

Lady Windermere: We love you, Sonic and Sonia!

Lord Windermere: Go, Sonic! GO! Take your sister with you!

Swatbot: Lord and Lady Windermere. You are under arrest.

Lord Windermere: NOOOOOOOOOO!

Sonic: [gasps] Oh no! [cries] [returns to the burning mansion] Noooo!

Sonic: [gasps]

Chuck: Sonny!

Sonic: Huh? [runs to his uncle's arms] Uncle Chuck! [cries]

Chuck: It's gonna be all right, sonny boy.

(Sonia and Manic are crying as well.)

Chuck: It'll take all your speed to get through that prototype shield Robotnik's puttin' up, sonny.

Sonic: No problemo, Uncle Chuck! "Fast" is my middle name.

Manic: I thought it was Remus.

(All laugh.)

Tails: Can I come with you, Sonic?

Sonic: No, l'il bro. Too dangerous right now. Best to stay here where you're safe and sound.

Chuck: Eh, can't argue there! [chuckles] But just remember: you can't let Robotnik seize ya! Keep your speed up!

Sonic: Yeah, what's up with that, Unc? How come I have to be so careful?

Chuck: Eh, because if he found out who was takin' out all his factories, he'd be huntin' you all the time! Whoa, come on boy! Jelly and jam time!

Sonic: [coughs] That's juice and jam, Unc.

Chuck: Oh.

Sonic, Manic, Sonia, Chuck: [laugh]

Chuck: Okay, kids. Be careful! [presses a button and lets Sonic out] Good luck, Sonic!

Robotnik: Shield status!

Robot: Shields ready, sir.

Robotnik: Good. Activate! [the robot pulls a lever to raise the shield] Now if the Resistance uses their secret weapon, they'll be in for a big surprise! [bellows with laughter]

Chuck: You don't have to do this, sonny.

Sonic: Got to, Uncle Chuck. If I don't bust through that force-field, Robuttnik'll put 'em around every factory. Not to worry, been practisin', Unc. Gotta do it to it! [zooms away] See ya!

Robotnik: Prepare to lift off!

Robot: Sir, motion sensors detect fast-approaching object.

Robotnik: Radar?

Robot: Too low, sir.

Robotnik: Ahhh, can't wait!

Sonic: [strains] Just... a little... faster!

Chuck: Almost there, sonny! Give it all you got!

Sonic: Yaaaahhhh! [penetrates the shield] No way I'm stoppin'! Just a little... more! [breaks the shield down] YEAH!

Robotnik: It destroyed my force-field! Nothing can be that fast! What is it?!

Sonic: Yes!

Robotnik: Explosives! The factory's going to blow! Lift off, everyone, military speed! Guhhh! [the ship takes off as the factory explodes] Whaaaaa! [the robot bumps into him] Oh, get off me, you stupid bag of bolts!

Robot: Analysis of secret weapon is now complete.

Robotnik: Excellent! Report.

Robot: Sensors indicate that the subject is blue, sir.

Robotnik: Blue? That's all?!

Robot: Yes, sir.

Robotnik: [growls]

[At their uncle's hideout, Sonic and his siblings are fast asleep on the couch, snoring away.]

Chuck: You cut 'em bad, sonny. Robotnik won't recover from that for a while. I'm gonna see if I can find a doctor, sonny. [sniffs] Don't you do nothin' stupid while I'm gone, you hear me? [sniffs]

[He kisses his nephews and niece on their cheeks and walks away. A glowing light fills the room, causing all three of them to stir in their sleep.]

Sonia: (moaning) Turn off the lights.

Manic: And crank up the heat a bit, man. It's so cold.

Sonic: What? Who?

Oracle: The time has come, hedgehogs.

Sonic: It...it has?

Oracle: Sonic, your destiny awaits.

'Sonia: Wait! What?!

Sonic: Yeah? Can you show us?

Oracle: I can even give you something to boost your energy.

Sonic: Gooooood mornin' Robotropolis! Oh yeah, I'm up! [lands on the couch] Oof! I'm wide awake? How'd you do that? And who are you?

Oracle: I am the Oracle of Delphius.

Robotnik: Enter, bounty hunters!

Sleet: Oh, sir! Thank you for seeing us, sir! How may we serve Your Royal Greatness? Your wish is our command, sir. You have only to ask, Your Amazingness!

Robotnik: What I want from you is for you to swear to my service.

Sleet: Oh yes, Your Most Powerfulness! We are deeply flattered, but you see, sir, we are independent contractors.

Dingo: Yeah, we're in, erm... in... eh... we work, er, by ourselves.

Robotnik: It matters not! From now on, you work for me.

Sleet: Oh, but sir, we have other- [Robotnik fires lasers at them] Whoa, ow, ow!

Dingo: Will you stop that! [splutters]

Sleet: Then again, perhaps it is time we made a change.

Robotnik: Excellent. I knew you'd see it my way. [switches on a monitor] This is the Freedom Fighters' secret weapon. It has plagued me for over a year, and I want it found and destroyed! Do you understand?

Dingo: Yes.

Sleet: Yes. Leave it to us, sir. Whatever it is, consider it destroyed!

Sonic: Sorry about spittin' the chili on you, Orc. Mom and Dad are nearby? Where are they?

Oracle: They are close. But to find them, you must sing the song that is in your hearts, young hedgehogs.

Sonic: Hey, whoa, whoa, wait! What song? How come nobody ever says what they mean? Song in our hearts? What does that mean?! [his medallion glows] Whoa, my medallion... [a guitar appears] Huh?

[Sonia has her keyboard already out and ready to go.]

Sonia: Let's jam!

Manic: Get ready, Ma and Pa! A one, two, three!

["Someday" plays]

Sonic: And they got our Uncle Chuck!

Sonia: And Lord and Lady Windermere!

Manic: We have to find some way to help them!

Sonic: You're right! Let's do it to it! [the Oracle appears] [gasps]

Oracle: I'm sorry, young hedgehogs. I'm afraid you're too late.

Manic: It can't be! No!

Sonic: No!

Sonia: It can't be!

Oracle: It is time for you to explore the power of your crystal brooches.

Sonia: I always wondered why I had this.

Manic: Yeah, and why I couldn't bear to take it off!

Oracle: Are you ready to begin the journey?

Sonic: Journey? What journey? We have to fight Robuttnik-

Oracle: And to fight him, you must make this journey of discovery and bonding! You have powers within you!

Manic: We do?

Oracle: Powers which you will need to fulfill your quest. [gives them a map] Follow this map, and remember: you must learn to work with each other. The fate of Mobius is in your hands!

Manic: [gasps]

Sonia: And who was that?

Manic: Yeah, bro. He seems...familiar.

Sonic: We've got a long way to go. Come on. I'll explain on the way.

Sonic: Who are you?

Amy Rose: Amy Rose.

Sonic: Sounds pretty. My name is Sonic.

[Amy blushes.]

Amy Rose: Well hi, Sonic.

Sonic: Would you and your family like to stay with us for a while? You live near my uncle's place anyway, so whaddya say?

Amy Rose: That would be wonderful!

Goofs

Queen Aleena and her children. The photo was taken by King Jules during a secret visitation.

• When the photo of the Sonic Underground is shown, they are not babies, but five-year-olds. Aleena and Jules are said to have secretly visited them at that age, however, and even before then when they were toddlers.

Trivia

• At the beginning, there is a statue that strongly resembles the King from the Sonic the Hedgehog television series. He was a former ruler of a kingdom on planet Mobius before the House of Hedgehog rose to power.
• Jules and Aleena's wedding occurs in this episode, which is one of the biggest departures from the original episode as the King was never revealed in the show at all.
• Some of the biggest departures from the original episode are as follows:

1. Sonic and his siblings are separated from their biological parents a year after birth rather than at the moment of their birth. This makes the scene more powerful and emotional.
2. Sonic is raised by Lady Windermere along with Sonia. As a result, while he still speaks informally, his etiquette when eating chili dogs is much more refined. His musical cue is even a certain tune played on harpsichord.
3. Rather than being raised as a crook by Farrell and the Thieves' Guild, Manic is raised by Chuck, who (like in Sonic SatAM) is related to Sonic and his siblings by blood. He is Queen Aleena's brother.
4. The Windermere Estate is arsoned rather than the commoners' home; all three of the siblings are reunited and are made to live with their uncle. Tails is then found on their doorstep and taken in. Amy also joins them as well.
5. The song "Someday" is for King Jules and Queen Aleena this time.
