Asmer the Butterfly is an escapee of the Twilight Cage dimension. Closely associated with the gizoid Messina, he lived by himself in a remote part of the Sakoku Kingdom. He was also Elly the Dragon's Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu master. He holds a bit of prejudice against Mobians for their apparent ignorance of his kind's plight, and overexertion of his brain's frontal lobes causes him to have a callous nature in general.

Looks

Asmer has black hair, and green eyes. His wings are orange, red, and black. He can shift from any height between a few inches and a bit more than three and a half feet. He likes to wear traditional looking clothes, mostly black, grey, or red. These colors are subject to change! He also wears a self-styled Kendo uniform, like the one Elly wears. (All looks related stuff subject to change!)

Personality

A touch condescending, Asmer sees the Mobian people as selfish and ignorant. While he tries to follow a personal code of honor, the gizoid Messina has mechanically implanted its own purposes into Asmer's mind.

Messina's influences and memory banking caused severe damage to Asmer's frontal brain lobe and his hippocampus. Without a "servant" to project his tendencies towards, he is more likely to give in to his gizoid's influence. His conscience is weakened from the strain, and as such he has a tendency to enjoy subduing his foes in battle, among other things.

He seems to have a master complex, possibly due to his unending state of subjugation to Messina. When his desires are sated, his self control also stays in check. Though his actions can sometimes seem sadistic, he still feels caring for those he deems deserving of it.

Strengths and Powers

Mastery of Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu:

Asmer has a higher level of expertise than Elly the Dragon in the fields of Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu. His unsheathing strike is less powerful than hers overall, but his technique cleaves through armor more effectively. His best and main stance is Wakigamae, one meant to conceal the length of his blade from his opponent. He can also use every other Kendo stance at near expert level..

Asmer was the one who taught Elly the principles of not wasting movements, but he adheres to those principles much more than Elly does. Asmer usually doesn't let himself use a single wasteful attack or maneuver, and as such can last a very long time in a battle of attrition.

Flight:

While he cannot fly nearly as fast or as deftly as Elly, Asmer can use his butterfly wings to gracefully flit in the sky. Despite having the ability, he doesn't really fly all that often.

Extreme reaction speed:

Asmer's reaction speed is extremely quick, at least on par with Elly's. Considering his main stance requires his blade to be in a trickier position, this is very important for his success in battle.

Psychic Abilities:

Asmer uses latent psychic powers in several ways. One way he uses it is to extend the length of his weapon by forming a psychic blade around it. This is done while he strikes, and the technique is meant to heighten the surprise factor of his Wakigamae stance. He can also shoot the psychic blade out from his weapon as a pulse. The psychic blade has the same amount of power as the weapon he uses. He can use telekinesis, but only on medium-sized objects that he has been in contact with for extended periods of time. Lastly, he has the ability to influence neurotransmitters around any area he touches on living beings. He often uses this ability while grabbing his foes, causing intense anguish. The ability is most potent when he grabs an opponent's head or when he's able to touch their spine. He can use this ability to instill other feelings as well, such as pleasure or dread.

Gizoid Piloting:

Asmer sometimes pilots the gizoid known as Messina. A prefect type gizoid, Messina is specifically made to have incredibly strong, cleaving blade strikes. Asmer cannot use his own psychic powers while in Messina, but the gizoid can do several feats while using his energy as fuel. Messina, like other gizoids, has the ability to record moves by displaying a recording of the move billions of times to the pilot. As a result, it can perform a wide variety of moves. Asmer remembers these moves even when not piloting Messina, but requires its influence to perform most of them.

General Info

Backstory:

From what he can recall, Asmer was born from unknown parents in Nocturne, before the Twilight Cage incident, and raised by a family of echidnas. At the young age of 3 (still as a caterpillar), he was forcefully separated from his family to begin piloting his gizoid for the purposes of the Nocturnus clan. His captors did not allow him to communicate with his fellow butterflies, who were also piloting gizoids. As such, he has never lain eyes on another of his kind. However, he knew from his own experience in his gizoid that the butterflies were being subjugated. The other races in that time didn't bat an eye while the butterflies were captured and used to both pilot and fuel the gizoids with their latent inner power.

The gizoid program etched itself into the minds of the butterflies, making them obedient when necessary. gizoids function by using the power of butterflies as fuel, much like how Dr. Eggman uses animals to fuel his robots. The butterflies also serve as pilots, controlled mostly by the machine. Before Emerl, moves were copied through displaying a recording of a move to the pilot billions of times in a fraction of a second. This caused many of the butterflies to lose some of their sanity, as they copied several moves in their training.

During his time of "service" to the Nocturnus, he was trained to be the forefront of the gizoid army, specializing in an armor cleaving blade strike. His gizoid, Messina, was one of the three prefect gizoids, next to Scylla and Charyb. Emerl, a gizoid that didn't require a butterfly, but chaos emeralds for energy, was created later, and it surpassed the prefect trio. Emerl's creation led to the Argus Event, sealing the Nocturnus clan and all of the gizoids into the Twilight Cage dimension. Emerl and Messina, and by extension, Asmer, were able to escape the dimension through unknown means.

While Asmer was able to escape, the programming of his gizoid continued to run its protocol, the elimination of Nocturne's enemies. The machine's beckoning etched itself into his psyche, giving him a split personality: one mechanical and one with emotions. Asmer isolated himself from the rest of Mobius, knowing that either his protocol or his hatred for the Mobians would lead to him getting caught.

He recorded the art of Kenjutsu from a hermit that lived near him, and refined what he learned from the Nocturnus into Iaijutsu arts. While in isolation, he attempted to create a new life for himself, following a code of honor that the other inhabitants of the near isolated zone practiced. While this didn't completely remove his hatred for those that looked away during his subjugation, or takeovers from his Gizoid, the code of honor and his generally peaceful life lessened the influence of those two things.

He met Elly the Dragon later on in his life, when he was scouring the wilderness with Messina. At that point, Elly was a feral being, hunting in the wilds of Sakoku for food. Messina attacked at first, seeing the girl as a threat, and they had a battle that ended with Elly's defeat. Upon her defeat, the butterfly thought it would be amusing to keep the defeated dragon as a pet. He brought the dragon back home, and took care of her, eventually treating her more like a child than a pet. He decided to train her in the arts that he had learned, along with a basic education, emphasizing politeness and submissiveness.

History

This is another adaptation of a non-fan character of mine. This one was actually very fun for me to make, because I really liked the Gizoids in Sonic Battle (and, well, respect them in Chronicles).

Fun Facts

  • While he claims to have mastery of psychic abilities, in actuality his powers are just over the level of a psi novice. He seems to fully believe in his powers, for some reason...
