Hey SFW people, I'm here to announce a new contest!
Let's create a mascot for SFW! It would be awesome to have something to theme the wiki over, and this would create some awesome activity on here.
Don't worry if you're not an artist, this contest will be about the description. Artwork will be created as a prize for the winning character. The character will be incorporated into the wiki's theme, including in common templates and messages.
The winning character will become the wiki's mascot for the season (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall), then we will run the contest again.
I will be picking the judges in secret, to be announced after they have voted on the result.
Do NOT create any images of the character
Characters can have basic powers, but they must be something that can easily be represented in a still image
All characters must be newly created. Do not submit characters that existed prior to this contest.
All characters must have a highly detailed description of their appearance and personality. Be sure to include details about:
Detailed description of hairstyle
Detailed description of outfit
All characters must be a species that exists:
No "mixed species" like hedgefox
No species that only exist in specific fandoms
How to Enter
Design a character that you think would fit the theme and make a good mascot for our wiki
Create a page for them, making sure it meets all of the wiki standards and the rules above
Annyoenghaseyo, I am Kim John-Gun, leader of DPRK and greatest wiki account ever made! Today I so so so very proud to introduce to the great people of Sonic Fanon Wiki the Sang Awards!
Now now, you may be wondering, but Kim John-Gun what are the Sang Awards? and as every wise seonsang I say back to you with all compassion in heart, my dear <insert your name here>, the Sang Awards are the great awards founded by your very own me, Kim John-Gun!
So, now you know what Sang Awards are, I tell you schedule, Sang Awards last two weeks, one week with nominations and second week with voting. Unlike other award we use poll for voting.
What this mean is right now we in nomination phase and will be in nomination phase for the next 10 days, so you need to nominate your characters right away!
Here are our amazing nominees.
Because we don't want clutter we have only four categories.
Once again, the SFW Awards are right around the corner. The plan is to begin sometime in early June or late May, so that we can end in August. The rest of this month is dedicated to planning out this season's awards. There is much to talk about.
Concerning the last season's decline during the voting period, we have been considering putting a limit on either categories, nominations, or both. During the Winter 2016 awards, we had no less than 30 categories, each one containing at least four nominations (though most had six or more). Is it any surprise that nobody wanted to finish voting?
So now we're trying to shoot for something less daunting this summer. As far as categories go, I'd like to sort through all of the ones we've had before, and pick out which ones we want to return. (Things like Best Character return by default) I have not decided on a limit for categories, but my suggested limit for nominations is 10 characters per category. Of course this is up for discussion.
And now for my announcement.
I will NOT be hosting the Summer 2016 Awards
Hosting these past two awards have definitely taken its toll on me. I don't think you all realize how much stress it's put on my shoulders, ESPECIALLY during last summer since it was piled on top of a lot of personal troubles I'd been going through. Not only that, but the two awards (Winter and Summer) take place around the time I'm also supposed to be working on yet another thing: my SpTH Updates Videos. I did not get a single one up last year, and while I partly blame the summer incident on the awards, I fully blame the lack of a winter update on the awards as well. To top that off, I'm determined to get something out this summer. Therefor, I've decided that I will step down from the lead and pass the torch onto someone else.
That does not mean that I won't still participate. I will still nominate, vote, and help maintain order throughout this season. What I won't do is fully maintain the awards blog (adding nominations, tallying votes, keeping track of voters (for the most part) etc.)
That is all. Now, let's discuss category and nomination limitations and category returns.
For reference, here are the previous two nomination lists.
A lot happened last season, and it was an incredibly bumpy ride for the lot of us. I wanna try to avoid that this time around, so I'm bringing up the discussion of the rules.
Users are allowed to make threeself-nominations per category.
In the Autumn Awards, In order to submit more of their articles, users were required to nominate other people's pages. This is no longer valid: Three per category is the limit--No Exceptions.
As always, we will post our nominations for each category in the comments. While nominating your own characters/pages are allowed, it's strongly encouraged that you nominate things made by others.
Users have the right to deny their articles from being nominated by others.
All nominations must have a page, and it mustmeet standards. Exceptions are made for nominations such as weapons, items, attacks/skills, which can be part of a list on a bigger page. I will NOT accept sub-standard pages. (If I happen to miss one up until the voting round, it will be disqualified once discovered.)
No Canon Content Please! This is a Fanon Wiki, and such, we don't need to award any canon characters for their feats.
Certain Categories are split in two. During the final round, both halves will be voted against each other. Only one will win them both, but the runner-up still gets a winning award for his/her respective half.
Any winning article of a certain category cannot re-enter said category again. The only exceptions are Best Character (must have won Best Male/Female, but not the Best Character award to enter,) and those who have only won a runner-up in said category.
A category MUST have a minimum of four nominations in order to pass into the Voting Phase. If it fails to meet these requirements, the category will be dropped and all the nominations inside will be disqualified.
After all current nominations are tallies, All New Nominations MUST be posted in a new comment.' 'DO NOT REPLY TO OLD COMMENTS WITH UPDATES AND/OR ADDITIONAL NOMINATIONS.
When Voting begins, you can either give someone a +1 or -1 vote. (You cannot exceed 1.) You can do this for as many characters in any category (except in the Final Round), though voting a +1 for your own articles is forbidden. (Exceptions in the Final Round may or may not be given depending on circumstances.) You are allowed to vote a -1 for your own character/article, should you feel it is undeserving of said award, however. (It is advised that you notify me before voting begins if there is a problem with your article being nominated. (of course that's a moot point now))
When voting, it is strongly advised that you either create a blog post listing all of your votes, or put all of your votes in a single comment. DO NOT make multiple comments for voting! This makes it unnecessarily confusing and complicated, and ultimately takes more time to tally up.
Users are required tomake at least one sentence describing the reasoning behind their vote, unless they are neutral. Comments may vary, but please do not simply put a +1 or -1 with nothing following it.
Though it is impossible to really enforce such a rule, please try to judge each nomination based on quality, logic, experience (if possible), and relevance to the category. There have been suspicions of unfair judgements and concerns of overly biased votes. As the host, It is my responsibility to make sure this is as fair as possible. Thus, I will be moderating user votes. Do not worry, I won't be super strict. I cannot change people's opinions, however, should I find a vote that is most certainly injust, It may be voided from the final tally. Note that other users may do the same, and I may call a blog up for discussion for questionable judgement. But in the end, only I decide whether votes get voided or not.
Users are allowed to skip up to 3 categories total. Any more than 3 will require reasoning with an Awards Admin first. Skipping too many will result in your entire votes to be voided. This also applies to nominations within the categories. Skipping nominations without specifically stating neutrality may result in the category being skipped, adding to your total number of skipped categories. The reason for this is that skipping so much creates an upset in the balance of the votes, and generally makes a lot of people unhappy. Why should we bother nominating so many people for all these categories if you're just going to skip them? If time constraints are a problem, you may be excused depending on how much you were able to vote for. Otherwise, your votes will be voided from the final tally.
Users are Not Allowed to skip any tie-breakers in the Final Round. Do you all realize how many times we have had people overlook specific categories and have them nearly go overtime from neglect? Last winter was the most egregious example of this, with the bonus round that brought in categories from the final round. Let's not do that again.
Do NOT berate a user should they vote against your nomination.
Editing nominated articles in accordance with other people's votes (i.e: Example the Character is criticized for having super speed in one user's votes. Owner of Example promptly edits page to remove said super speed.) is prohibited. This is considered unfair and dishonest, as it is basically trying to sway the other voters into changing their opinions--and by extension, their votes--in your favor. There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as correcting faulty information that may confuse others while judging. However, this situation must be brought up with an Awards Admin first, so to determine whether or not it is fair game.
I want you guys to look over these rules and give me feedback on them. I would also like to hear some suggestions for new rules as well, since I get the sneaking feeling that I am forgetting something.
Winter is right around the corner, so you all know what that means. The SFW Winter Awards are steadily approaching. I want to make sure to get this done right, so I'm going to try and get an early start on the preparations. First, let's go over the potential categories.
Here are the categories I'd like to bring up for discussion.
Best Artificial Lifeform
Most Handsome Male
Most Beautiful Female
Best Mechanic and Best Genius
I simply want to remind everyone that these two are not redundant. Best Mechanic should not be judged based on their intellect and most certainly should not be judged by whether or not they have (good) inventions. They should be judged in how good they are in the field of mechanics, as well as other general handiman skills. They should be judged based on how efficient their work is. Having inventions is a plus, but it is not required.
Best Genius should also not be based on the number of inventions or what have you. An intelligent character =/= an inventor, or a scientist, or a mechanic of sorts. Their intellect should be the main driving factor; anything else is just a bonus.
Best Lawful and Best Chaotic
It seems not everyone thinks the same way about these categories, so voting what was Lawful and especially what was considered chaotic was a mishmash of opinions, to say the least. I'm opting to axe these two categories, but I'm willing to discuss them and see if we can find some sort of agreement. After all, part of this confusion was my fault for not being clear on how these worked.
Best Artificial Lifeform
This was supposed to be split between mechanical and organic, but I was a dumb and forgot to do the tiebreaker at the end. But I digress. I'm putting this up here to hear some feedback on the new category. What did you all think? Is this something you want to return, or should we just leave it alone?
Most Attractive Character
A few people were saying they felt these categories (Most Beautiful and Most Handsome) were biased, but one person in particular stated that, since the categories are most often judged by the pictures inside, commissions from other users should not be accepted. Not here nor in Best Picture, which we will get into later.
Now I feel that this is somewhat unfair, yet I can totally see where he's coming from. But I don't want to have a gimped category, so I'd much rather remove them entirely instead of slapping in some crippling rules to it. So that brings me to the new category idea.
Best Character Design
Yep. This is my suggestion to replace Attractive Character. Best Character Design would, as the name suggests, judge characters by their designs. While a picture should be required, judging by the quality of the picture is not allowed. After all, this isn't Best Picture; It shouldn't make a difference if a better artist drew the same thing or not. We judge these by what the pictures portray--The character designs themselves.
I understand that there are a few flaws in this. What if, you may ask, someone nominates a character whose only art is just so bad that it's indecipherable? The only thing I can say is to try and go by the text description.
Unlike most attractive, this is different as you aren't meant to judge solely on pictures and design, but the character's personality and traits, too. I understand that it is, yet again, another opinion based category, but it isn't meant to be a fully one-track voting on appearances. Just wanted to clear that up.
I used to see art of all kind up here, but nowadays it's mostly of characters. I just want to say that I don't want to simply get rid of this category because other people are commissioning others. I think that this category should probably stay because it showcases art. There shouldn't be anything wrong with having commissions from other people up here, and I believe taking away that aspect will deal a significant blow to this category. If it's a commission of someone's character, then the owner of said character isn't really taking the credit for the win; It's still the artist's work. The award goes on the actual picture's file-page, rather than whatever article it was posted on.
on that note, if we're going to be addressing commissions and requests, rather than barring them we should make the nominator specify the artist and give credit.
Right then. With that said and done, discuss. New Category Suggestions and discussions with the other categories are welcomed and encouraged. What do YOU want to see in the Winter Awards?
Best Character Design
Best Picture (With new rules!)
Best Fan Series
Should Best Attack/Skill return?
Should Kindest Character be added?
Should Meanest Character be added?
As Best Character Design is replacing Most Attractive Character, should the category be split between Males and Females like its predecessor?
Do you agree with the new rules of Best Picture? (Only pictures drawn by users can be nominated. Self nominations are limited to 2 instead of the usual 3, and must confirm that the artwork is theirs. Users nominating others' artwork must name the artist.)
EDIT: Just two more weeks until the contest closes on the 12th! We’re currently up to 42 character entries! Get your entries in fast before it ends!! Click here to see what characters have been added so far!!
Readers can now enter with their own original character designs and their characters could end up in the game! Those who draw OCs can see their characters come to life, and play as their character through the game! The top 3 entries will be chosen on the 12th of June.
This is a community project and we would love to build a solid group of fans and work together with them! For this contest, we want people involved, so any kind of art is acceped. Entries can be created digitally, drawn by hand, painted or whatever other medium you would like to use! Art quality is not penalised, but it is a plus. Photographs are also accepted if someone would like to cosplay as their character.
If your entry is selected as one of the top 3, your character will be fully modelled, textured and animated, then included in the character options at the start of the game. If the character designer wishes to include any specific actions for their character, they may work closely with our V-Ray animator to make it happen.
Original characters are what we’re looking for, not too similar to existing ones. We plan on adding ten more characters, so variety is what we’re looking for!
– All artwork must be original and made 100% by you! No artwork reused and claimed as your own.
– Be respectful toward other participants. Artists of all skill levels are welcome here.
– You may only submit one character per person. This rule is to create a fair playing field.
– Rules are subject to change, depending on how things go.
– Older characters can be used as entries, but we would ask that you redraw them with more detail for the contest. This way everyone is drawing something new for the contest, rather than just using existing art!
Will I get credit for my design? Yes, you will be given full credit for the artwork and character design.
What do I need do do to enter? Leave a comment saying you’d like to participate, and get drawing! Simple as that. Anyone is welcome to enter the contest!
When is the deadline, and when will the winners be picked? Entries for this contest will close at 6:00 pm June 12th, 2015 (GMT). The selection and announcement of the winning designs will take place on the 13th of June.
Entries need to be attached to an email along with your name, the subject labelled as “Character Design Contest” and sent to mail@design_contest.com. After you’ve finished your pic, send us a note with a title of “OC CONTEST” or something similar with a link, so we know it’s for the contest. Then we’ll reply to confirm we recieved it.
If you need more info, please leave a comment and we’ll answer any questions! We look forward to viewing your entries!
Lemme start off with a thanks to a certain user for reminding me that I'm late for this.
Okay so, it's time for the SFW Summer Awards of 2015. But first, I want to discuss potential categories! Let me list the usual:
Smartest Character/Best Genius
Most Handsome Male
Most Beautiful Female
And here's a list of my own personal suggestions/things I feel need discussion.
Best Fan Project
Best Super Form
With that said, feel free to suggest new categories, or discuss the above ones and decide on which ones we should keep or which ones should stay. The first list I feel should be the base categories for all future SFW Awards, while the second list is up for debate.
Let's hear it from the users. What do you all think about this season's categories?
Here is the current list of Categories for Summer 2015
I had an idea for a friendly competition to test users character-making skills. Participants must make one character within the span of a week, and only three edits are allowed (undo-edits are not counted.) After the week ends, users who had not made a character are allowed to vote on which one they like most, and the winner is decided after votes are tallied.
Other rules include:
Users who had made a character may not vote (to avoid unnecessary downvotes)
No joke characters (because Skull would just steal the show)
Grammar is important, and will be one deciding factor in the case of a tie.
There is no prize awarded to the winner, unless an admin or other person is willing to make an award for it. The "prize" is a sense of self-accomplishment that you had made the best character with so many restrictions.
If you do make a character for this contest, please label it as such to avoid confusion.
And with that, let's hope this actually takes off. If this does, it may start next saturday, November 15 and end November 22.
The winter season is quickly approaching for those of us in the northern hemisphere, so how about we get ready to decorate!
Take a look at our rather boring wordmark (logo):
Lame right? Let's step it up a little for this Winter. Submit your best Sonic Fanon Wiki logo and the winner will be used, and the skin may be made to match it!
Requirements for entries:
Must include the name of the wiki. Meaning it must have the words Sonic Fanon Wiki in it.
Must be relevant to the Sonic fandom. This does not mean that it has to feature a character or other element, however it cannot have a picture of Mario for example.
Must be scalable to or exactly 250px by 65px.
Must be in .png or .gif format, preferably the former.
Must be your own art! Stolen art is prohibited on Sonic Fanon Wiki, and most definitely in this competition. Entries will be sourced!
Must not violate any Sonic Fanon Wiki rules.
Any questions and/or concerns?
